Electrolysis & Dark Skin, A Regimen?

Recommended Posts

Guest Nab-Nab

My name is Nabela and I have dark skin, curly to wavy hair, and I'm interested in electrolysis. To my understanding the process is more expedient and effective than laser, and due to it working on all skintones a better choice overall. Over the past few days, I've been giving serious thought to placing this particular treatment within phase 1 of my transitioning plan, but I'm still having some misgivings. A few questions that I have are:

What sort of regimen for aftercare should I adopt? What products should it encompass?

I should begin aftercare immediately after the procedure? In the car or when I get home?

Is it possible to numb the area before treatment? If so, what should I use or request? Do treatment centers offer a numbing agent for an extra fee?

Whom are some of the notable and cost-efficient professionals or centers?

Thank you for your time and advice,

Typically for electrolysis you need to shave the area about 3 or 4 days before your appointment and then stop shaving until your appointment so the technician can see which hairs are active (they are the ones that are growing) since they can only kill the active hairs.

For numbing I use emla cream which is a mix of lidocaine and prilocaine. I got mine online from amazon but you can find it in many places like pharmacies. You put the cream on about 1 hour before your appointment and then put saran wrap on over top to stop it from drying out. The numbing effect lasts for about 20 minutes or so after you remove it so its best to keep it on until the last minute.

After a while I found my neighborhood electrologist was too slow so I seeked out the expertise of E3000 in Carrollton TX because I wanted something faster. E3000 specialized in TG clients and they use a flash thermolysis technique that is much faster than the blend method my local electrologist was using. Where my local electrologist was $60/hr she would clear about 200-300 hairs per hour, E3000 is $110/hr and they go at about 2-3 times that speed and they also use lidocane injections so you don't feel anything except the lidocane shots. Since it only matters how many hairs per dollar E3000 worked out to be cheaper. At my first clearing at E3000 they had 2 techs working on me at once and it took 5 hours with 2 techs to clear all my facial hair. That was the first pass though. It takes multiple clearings to get all the hairs and with each clearing less hair comes back. After the 1st clearing about 60% remains and about 20% is removed with each clearing after. I am about to do clearing #5 soon on my face and #2 on my "south pole".

Good luck

Unfortunately I don't get any numbing agent when I do thermolysis but I only go for an hour a week. After going for about a year, I definitely have far less hairs.

Hello Nabela:

My doctor prescribes one oxycodone and one tablet of Lorazepam one hour before my treatment. The oxycodone helps with the pain and the lorazepam lowers the anxietry level. My technician rubs triple antibiotic ointment on the treated area after electrolysis. I often bring a cold pack in a plastic sandwich bag which keeps swelling down and I apply cold pak on the trip home. Then I reaply antibiotic ointment after I get home to prevent any skin infection or flareup.

I did an hour a week for the first year. Now that I'm approaching FFS surgery, I'm doing two hours a week which when I started was almost unthinkable going two hours. I'm a woos when it comes to pain. Now that I'm having electrolysis on the most tender area of the face, the upper lip, I don't need no stinkin pain relief, just kidding. Eoowww. Can I get general anesthesia for doing this area :doh1: .

My technician uses the blend method of electrolysis. I would love to make a trip to Electrolysis 3000 or to the electrolysis technicians with Dr Zulowski in Chicago who uses light sedation. When you are comfortable in the hands of two experienced technicians and can get a complete clearing, that is the way to go. Also don't wait. Start treatment immediately as it does take some significant time to clear your entire face. Kathryn

Hi Nabela,

About the only thing I can add is that both of my electrologists recommended using a sunburn lotion afterwards, particularly with aloe. It did seem to help the redness, along with ice, as Julia mentioned.

Electrolysis bleached a couple of my moles out to invisibility. But, it also bleached my skin to some extent. I use makeup to cover. Youmight ask whether this could happen with you too. Of course, that's a problem with laser, one of the reasons I went with electrolysis alone.

Best of luck to you!

Love, Megan

I also recommend bringing a cold pack in a clean baggy and apply it for on the way home. It keeps swelling down After I get home, I lightly blot the treated area with witch hazel soaked cotton pad followed by reapplying an antibiotics ointment to kill skin bacteria.

No shaving for a minimum of 24 hours and be very gentle around the treated area. Or leave the treated area alone for a day or two to heal. Kathryn

It is ok to be scared and have doubts but, I wouldn't go shooting down your chances of finding happiness, too quickly. It is not easy to go through divorce and all the feelings that go with that. Add to that the complexity of trying to be seen by others in a way that makes you happy. It is so much to work through and so frustrating. I find, if I doubt myself ever and want to reassure my heart, I look back to how I felt long before the experiences of the ex. I also rely heavily on advice from many sources. Give yourself time to find the things that bring you joy. 💜

I am really sad any of us feel this way. I never liked the day much. I was just happy to have people that cared around. When I turned forty my ex went to a party instead of being with me. I was hurt and stunned but somehow felt like I really wasn't losing much at the same time. I had a great time taking my kids to dinner and movie. I say if people can't show us the appreciation we deserve, then they certainly don't deserve us. I never liked holidays that involved presents because the people always gave me stuff that I really couldn't relate to. I was cool with Transformers toys but, I liked Jem and The Holograms better. Who doesn't like a rockin' group of girls that are strong and willing to help save the day when troubles arise. Happy Day to all of us.

i remember when i went through a divorce over 35 years ago and my wife at the time said she stopped loving me. I couldnt understand how that could be. I did talk, her into counselling with me and tried my hardest to stay together BUT i learned there is only one person you h!ve control over and how i controlled me was to go anorexic. i found a woman who loved me 10 years later and we have been married  almost 28 years. She has been with me through depession, panic attacks and gray market self medicatung hrt. i told her 2 weeks ago that all the different therapy, helped for a while but my dusphoria keeps roaring back. I also told her how much i love her and like most transgenderxpeople, i didnt ask for this and wouldnt be proxeeding if i could help it. She has not seen me enfemme but she is aware i start ifficial doxtor approved hrt possibly as soon as tomorrow. she says she is with me now but,ahe is not sure she could handle a full transition. all i can hope us her seeing how happy this decission is naking me but in the back of my mindxi also remember i have control of only one person. After anorexia it occurred to me that the second commandment says to love your neighbor as yourself. and i thoyght if you, cant love yourself then you cant give what you dont have  it was then that i started from the bottom and restored who u was and started treating myself better and now i xan love my neighbor as nyself. will our marriagexsurvive...one day at a time...for now it is going as well as can be expected but i am also aware as i move, forward we may not grow together and if we grow apartci still must see this through.  i kbow that was a short story made wide too long butxu hope it was some help and foe you,to know this forum has been a life saver for me abd thatxyou have uncinditional love here from your sisters. Mindy, When I first came out to my she seemed to almost laugh it off. It was I know since I use female avatars in my games. Then last Halloween was the first time I have gone out as female. Everything was great until I got home. both my wife of 34 years and my 22 yr old son went at me. She says she will let me transition but she will divorce me. Says she married a man. I take it as she married a man not me. Lately every thing has been back to normal, like before I came out. I am transitioning ever so slowly. One day I will not be able to hide it anymore. I still hope that her love for me trumps her hatred for me. So, I totally know what you are going through. Hoping everything still works out for you both.   I feel that I am needing to be the one who leaves. I have been looking for positions out of state. Nothing yet. There is no way in Hell I could live here and not be with her. My love is that strong towards her. Yet she could not see loving me as Kymmie.   Kymmie

i think i have been a little over zealous trying to feminize my face. It could very well epilating too much or new face cream but there are a couple areas that bubbled up a little and a few other bumps. i am treating it with lidocane and will back off for a few days then try each cream first ti,se if i am alegic and taje it sloer. i might be overstressing this male body with things it is not used to, like washing and moisrurizing daily.

Yes, Cadbury chocolate products have always been a favorite, especially around Easter time------at least until sometime in 2015 when  Cadbury announced that they would cease producing their cream-filled chocolate Easter eggs.  Although that didn't happen the forthcoming year (at least not in the US), we firmly resolved not to purchase Cadbury products anymore. 🤔
