Admin VickySGV Posted October 14, 2012 Admin Share Posted October 14, 2012 A year ago, I sent coming out letters to two of my cousins after my sister's suicide when I thought we would meet during my sister's memorial service. That service never happened for a variety of reasons, but nevertheless I had hoped for a reply to my letters, but none had come in a year. A day or two ago, my youngest brother who was named as my sister's only heir (my other brother and I were specifically written out) and I were talking, and he told me he had talked to the cousins, who have totally refused to accept me on Fundamentalist grounds and who no longer wish to see me again. This inspite of the fact that we had been close for over 50 years. Today I was going through my prayer book looking to see if I could find a suitable prayer for the situation I am in just now, and no, there is nothing specific on coming out and being shunned by other Christians, especially family members, and so I have composed my own. I truly wish that their hearts and minds can be opened for reconciliation, since all of us are approaching old age. Here is the prayer I will be adding to my own daily office -- Gracious and loving God, you have given me the wisdom and peace to accept that I am different from your other children in body and spirit, and yet others who cry your name refuse to see me as one of your beloved ones as they feel themselves to be. I believe that you are capable of turning their hearts and minds and ask that You will touch their hearts to accept me as you created me, as you have touched my heart to that realization. In time, allow them to reconcile themselves to me, and give me the strength and resolve to hold out my heart to them until that good day shall come. I ask this in the name of your son, my savior Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit who moves in our lives in these days. AMEN. Link to comment
