New Glasses

Hi Everyone

I had an interesting day today!

I wear glasses, at least for driving and when out an about. I have just started a couple of weeks leave from work and as I was somewhat overdue for an eye test I thought I ought to have one. I have been planning to go for some time as all of my old glasses are male, although a couple of pairs are somewhat unisex, and I have wanted more feminine ones.

The eye test itself was no problem but on looking at the glasses and trying some pairs on I did begin to feel a bit conspicuous (As I was wearing my skinny Jeans and cami dress, turned up slightly to thigh top, under a loosly buttoned shirt I probably looked odd anyway lol). I was basically looking at all glasses as I did not really care what they were, or who they were intended for, just how they looked and felt.

The salesman came over and I asked about women's glasses. He did not bat an eylid. Straight and to the point. That was good. One could think that it was the big cheque he would be getting (glasses are horrendous in price especially as one pair [buy one get second cheaper] are polaroid), but I suspect I was not the first.

Anyway I selected a couple of pairs of frames which fitted well (good job women's head sizes vary and not all are small). Both are women's but, although never likely to be worn by the average male, are not too extreme. I'll maybe post some pics when I get them.

All in all a good day, but I am wondering if others have interesting experiences.

Because of the price, glasses really have to be right as you wear them for quite a while before replacing. Unlike perhaps shying out of trying on a cheap dress there was no way round just going for it!

This is where I am modeling my "classic style" (unisex) glasses frames, the next two pictures after it are glasses on also!! They give me a more sassy ( :P) and less sexy look (mind your manners! ). I bought my new ones just before I went red-head, but they look fine now too. Glasses are ACCESSORIES if you buy them with that in mind!! It was the optician who fitted me that actually began using my preferred name at the medical offices.

Thinking back to my visit Vicky I was a little confused at times as there seems to be a big overlap these days between male and female styles and most are not indicated as either.

I suppose I must think of glasses as accessories quite a bit as over the years I have collected several pairs (as male) and have been using each of 5 pairs for different reasons in recent times. As I often do when ordering something, I am now thinking about the colour and wondering a little lol. They looked good in the shop but the sort of violet / lilac colour on reflection seems slightly out with red hair although will go with my blue eyes. It reminds me why I do not like choosing glasses. It was not even easy from the male viewpoint, although perhaps I was looking with a feminine eye.

The glasses suit you well in your photo. I do not tend to go for anything too bold. I have never been keen on glasses and do not always wear them except for driving so I generally get smaller and have chosen a more pastel shade.

Has anyone tried the cheap online glasses? I try to select gender neutral glasses at the optometrist but I'd like to have a much more feminine pair. The websites have glasses starting very cheap. I'm tempted. Has anyone had experience with these sites?

I have never tried them but, as I find the glasses I buy invariably need minor adjustent for comfort which is likely to be far less easy to arrange, I am not inclined to try them.

Oh and as a postsript to my earlier post I have my glasses and really like them!

My glasses are definitely female, but I want my new pair to absolutely scream GIRL!!! I really like Confections Tutii Frutii but they are a little hard to find. I also like some of the frames from Hard Candy. I want something pink, stylish and girls' only. Some of the pretty more outrageous cool ones are no longer made. I hate when things I want go out of style.

If anyone finds some that are way off the hook please message me. Hug. JodyAnn

Tracy,

I would have liked to have gotten Sarah Palin glasses when that was all the rage. I did have some round John Lennon glasses that I liked back when. Even if not the trendy thing they are all expensive and you really have to like what you'll be wearing. I've had to wear glasses ever since puberty, a traumatic time when I lost all my childhood girl friends.

The name "Mississippi" comes from the Anishinabe tribe of Native Americans; the word means "Father of Waters."

That's horrible that they are blaming you for her presumption. I hate to say it but maybe they are looking for reasons.

I have no skin in the game here, apart from the signal that a re-elected Trump sends to likeminded politicians around the world, which would result in an indirect yet detrimental effect on many people here and elsewhere. So, hopefully what I write here can be used as a reference for how he, and American politics in general, is viewed from a country that is not directly involved.   It seems to me that politics is not taken seriously by enough people in America. Actually, specifically the USA (America can be anywhere from Prudhoe Bay to Panama to Patagonia). Electing a celebrity to high office just wouldn't happen here, let alone one who has overseen the bankruptcy of several of his business ventures and is embroiled in hush-money scandals. I remember during my teenage years when Reagen was elected; the main point of conjecture here was that he was just a B-grade actor. Equally laughable was Arnie as governor of California, although he turned out to be somewhat more socially progressive than most Republican politicians.    I simply cannot understand why the Dems cannot find a decent candidate. Biden has cognitive issues. Everyone expected Harris to step up by now, but no. Where's Jed Bartlet when you need him, lol! In my mind, if Martin Sheen threw his hat in the ring, he'd be elected in a heartbeat because many of you would actually believe that he was the real deal! Even though he's older than Biden!!!   Sorry if that sounds like I am trying to insult the intelligence of y'all. But y'all asked for it, by valuing celebrity over substance over the last five decades or so.    I have no doubt that Trump will win in November, even if he is in jail. His rusted-on supporters will just say, "Yep! That's our boy!!!"

Well said.    Although this so-called Project 2025 will not affect me directly in an immediate sense, it sends a signal to equivalent minded people and political parties around the world that it is okay to exclude minorities and indeed, to persecute them.   In my humble opinion, the far-right politicians know damn well that there is a very large cohort of less-than-intelligent people out there who are not capable of critical thinking and believe every skerrick of dog-whistling, fearmongering, "they're-out-there-to-get-you" rhetoric. Pander to their rural and village attitudes and you're on a winner!    Correcting them with logic and science won't work; they just double down and get louder with their petulance on full display.

Just waking up so I'm in my pajamas - blue/white madras shorts, a navy blue t-shirt and my sleep bra with sleep-rated breast forms.   Thank you @Susan R for telling us about your mastectomy bra and forms fitting experience before your BA surgery and how sleeping in the bra/forms helped with the dysphoria.    First, hearing about your courage to get fitted gave me the confidence and courage to go out in public.   And, second, finding sleep mastectomy bras and sleep-rated breast forms (I found a set on eBay for a good price) has been a tremendous boost to my feeling comfortable in my pajamas and nightgowns and tamping down my dysphoria and dysmorphia.
