A Little Trans* History Made In The Cathedral of The Episcopal Diocese Of Los Angeles

This past Sunday, the First publicly performing Transgender voice chorus with a Transgender music director / conductor, the Trans* Chorus of Los Angeles made its FIRST appearance in a major Christian denomination's Cathedral for a Pride Mass.

The church was St. John's Cathedral which is the cathedral for the Episcopal Diocese Of Los Angeles. Only two members of the Chorus are actually Episcopalian, most are of other faiths and a few have been rejected by the churches they grew up in, and no longer express any religious faith. That did not stop the church members and clergy from being the warm, wonderful and accepting people that they are. I am a member of the Chorus and I am a very visible Trans* member of the Diocese and have had nothing but welcome and love for who I am, and I felt a bit misty eyed as I saw the same love directed toward my sisters and brothers in the Chorus, and for the healing offered to one of our key members who had been escorted off the grounds of another church when she showed up as her True Self after 20+ years of service in their music program as a volunteer. The singers did a first rate job, and with only 2/3 of our actual number there, filled the cathedral with their singing. (The building is designed for choral music which helped.)

 Fantastic. Thank you and all of the chorus as well. That must have been so inspiring.

Hugs,

Charlize
