Howdy,

My name is Jeanette, I'm from up in the Great White North, in a small 'burg, and as far as I know, I am the only transgirl who lives here.

I made my decision to move forward back in July of 2018, and began HRT with my first injection Oct. 23, 2018.

I have my first electrolysis clearing scheduled for late August, my FFS consultation is booked with Dr. Jeffery Spiegel for Sept, and am hoping we can schedule my FFS and voice surgery for late November.

As for my life, well, I was tired of glass-ceilings and joe-jobs so I went back to university originally for pre-med, earned my MS in chemistry, before realizing I was truly burned out with writing all the reports and my thesis. After five years of busting my buns and having no life, I just wanted to get away from writing. Thought about PA school, was even accepted to a small college, but decided not to go. Got a teaching job at the university and loved that, but after a couple of years the faculty was trimmed, and I was one of those trimmed. :)

So that is where I'm at.

I love chemistry, math, snowmachining six months of the year, ballistics, fishing and camping. Not necessarily in that order.

So..............

Welcome Jeanette to trans pulse forums, and thanks for your intro post, nice to have you with us  :)

I can relate, I have ridden snow machines in Alaska myself (near Chugiak) great fun ! You live in a wonderful place to go camping (in the summer). Last I visited Alaska was in 2019, it was fabulous.

Have a look around, join in the conversations here, post away as the mood strikes ya....

Hugs

Welcome to Trans Pulse, Jeanette.  I hope that you can find your dream vocation.  Sometimes it takes a lot of looking and often blind luck to find that one thing that suits you.  Congrats on the progress you've made so far, and best wishes for what is yet to come.  I look forward to your contributions to this site.

HUGS

Hello Jeanette and welcome!  I actually live close to Dr. Spiegel's office.  He did my trachea shave a number of years ago. I think you'll like him.  Sorry to hear of the burn out but that's life sometimes although it does allow for new doors to open.  I hope you can find what you're looking for.   As to Transgender Pulse, I think you'll find this to be a good community of diverse, caring and interesting folks.  Please join in.

Cheers, Jani

Hi Jeanette,

Welcome to Transpulse. I'm glad you're here!

I wanted to move to Alaska when I was a kid, but then learned that homesteading ended in the 1960's. Probably just as well. Although I am a winter person, I'm not sure I could be an Alaska winter person.?

Lots of love and a big welcome hug,

Timber Wolf ?

Welcome Jeannette,

I always dreamed of getting up there to do some hunting back when I did a bit of that.  I think you will find a lot of friends and support here.

Thank you! Yes, I get to do that lost, as I live in the Bush, and all my relatives here are Native.

Hi Jeanette, I'm new too. Alaska sounds great! You've got quite the resume!  And I see you went Electrolysis as opposed to Laser. Nice Choice. That was my first choice as well, though I never finished. Hopefully we can keep each other company during your recovery period in November. I'm so excited for you!

Welcome @Jeanette West. Somehow, I seemed to have missed your introduction here. It’s very nice to meet you and I’m glad you joined. You and I both started HRT very close in time. I bet you’ve made some wonderful progress over the past year or two. I hope to find out even more about you and your journey thus far if you care to share it.

Warmest Regards,

Susan R?

Alaska seems like a very interesting place but I've heard that most of the population is less tolerant than most of the United States. Does anyone know how tolerant Alaska is? Looking at election results, a larger percent vote Democrat in Juneau than the rest of the state, so I wonder if parts of the state are more accepting than others.

Hey Alexxiss, Susan and Dana!

I certainly like it here; Jay Hammond said it best when referring to Anchorage, when he was governor back in 1977 (I actually heard this on TV when he said it), "Alaska is only 15 minutes away by air". As you would expect, the socialists lost their minds. I lived in Anchorage 1983 to '88 when I moved to the Bush and will NOT return. I go there for appointments and such but nothing else. Don't get me wrong, it can be a nice place to live, and is for a visit, with lots of things to do, but now that I have lived in the Bush for so long... Fairbanks is the place to be if you want the convenience of a city. It is a nice place to live, I went to UAF for five years and loved every minute. Ahhhh...Juneau...if the seat of government weren't there, the population would be 1500 instead of 15,000. It is intensely cliquish, always raining and windy.

The rest of the place is great!

Acceptance, hmmm...unlike other parts of the States, I have never heard of anyone being hurt here because of their orientation. Nor have I ever heard of anyone being denied employment or housing. Now, if you were in the building trades, you would get some flak, but know who you are dealing with. Rough-n-ready guys generally aren't easy going.

No-one has ever bothered me in any way wherever I have been. I am 5'7" and currently 160 pounds, I am not someone you'd cross the street to get away from. :) About a year ago I was in a mall getting some lunch, when I went to pay for my meal, I was informed "your meal has already been paid for", that floored me. Please don't let any apprehensions stop you from coming or visiting, you won't have any challenges when here.

I should put up some photos from around where I live.

Welcome!

Glad to see your Bio. I am a Nurse. Also have a background with my Masters in Nursing Education - thought about applying to PA school. But have decided to apply to NP school so I can work exclusively with the Trans and other minority populations.

Hope to hear more from you.

Hi Kylie. Yeah, I wish I hadn't burned out but there it is. I am okay where I'm at, so far. My older sister told me when she was in law school there was a fellow who at the ripe young age of 79 years young graduated with his law degree, so it is never too late. :)

Hello Jeanette and welcome, my wife and I visited Alaska a few years ago and loved what we saw. I love being the feminine person I am.

Good luck with your transition. Hugs

I really don't think that's a good idea. The unity of the LGB and T community is historic and has been central for both groups rights. And the vast majority of people advocating for splitting the two are transphobic LGB's who are broadly condemned by the community anyway.

A bit late in updating, but I've had the draft of the official diagnosis and have (as yet unconfirmed) an endo consultation next month.   Next to arrive will be the supporting documentation for my new passport application for my correct gender.  This will then be my official ID for all the other updates - bank, tax, payroll etc.   It just feels good to to be proactive again rather than waiting for other people to move at a leisurely pace.

I like ELF brand cosmetics, I can pick them up at JC Penny.    I wear makeup everyday, but mostly just very light makeup.

Hi Mae Be, whenever it comes to makeup, there are so many different bands to choose from. Picking out the right makeup comes with trial and error, until you find one that works for you and blends well with your skin tone, some makeup products can leave the skin feeling oily. It's a good idea to look at the labels on the makeup product to know what the creators put in the makeup, just in case skin allergies. Once you found the makeup brand, you can add it to your shopping list, good luck

To be fair I’m pretty lost when it comes to makeup technique. I’ve watched videos, but I have no idea what works for or would help my features. So I just bungle along, hoping I don’t look terrible.
