Sorry, I've just always wanted to say that.

Umm . . . hi! I'm guerillagrue, AKA Melanie E. I'm 33, MtF, and honestly came across this forum earlier tonight looking for resources on local help in beginning the process of transition.

According to y'all's resource guide closest thing is half the state away. *Great.*

Let's see, what else . . . .

Oh! I currently live at home with my folks, both of whom are disabled. I help with important things like watching the dog when they're out, answering the door for people they don't want to talk to and telling them they're asleep, and keeping my dad from doing Foolish Things when he's out in his shop. I also make money selling art and music (mostly the art) by commission, and have a few ebooks for sale too (though I'll wait to hock those 'til I'm a bit better known 'round these parts!)

I'm a long-time member of the trans fiction site Big Closet Top Shelf, where I use the screen name 'rasufelle.' So, if any of y'all frequent that place or its discord, hi! And please, don't spread *too* many embarrassing stories about me around. I mostly write romantic teenage or young adult fiction and coming-of-age stories -- NON-erotic, thankewverrahmuch! -- featuring transgirls who end up liking Hunky Boys. It's my Thing.

So, why am I here then? Well, I already mentioned I stumbled across this place looking for info on how to proceed with transition, and . . . yeah. I've been meaning to pursue full-on get-the-'plasty-and-go transition since I was a teen and learned it was a Thing, but for a number of reasons (mostly financial) I've just never felt like the time was really right to pursue it. Well, guess what? I turn 34 this year, and money or not I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, and dealing with all the 'stuff' I don't wanna have and the lack of other things I do. So, money and insurance be damned, I am bound and determined to be on the path to transition before the year's out.

With any luck, I can do that without resorting to self-medicating, a solution I've kept myself away from for years but is looking, unfortunately, more and more inevitable. I've been out to family since I was 18 or so, and it's just . . . it's WAY past time for me to do something, you know?

So, how're y'all?

Melanie E.

Hey @guerillagrue! Lovely to meet you! I've got a long-time friend that posts on Big Closet Top Shelf! I'm completely blanking on their username right now though.

Welcome to TransPulse. Please familiarize yourself with the rules. No soliciting I'm afraid.

Don't self-medicate either. That's a very good way to hurt yourself and stall your transition permanently. Bad idea. Always take HRT under the supervision of a doctor who knows what they're doing. I am utterly unfamiliar with Arkansas, but look to the nearest medical college and see if they have a program. There should be someone within a couple of hours by car that can help you out.

UofM, for example, is just thirty minutes away for me. Though driving in Ann Arbor is absolutely miserable. You might be able to work out something with remote visits too. Give blood at place X, your endo at place Y looks it over you talk via Skype and the prescriptions go to your local pharmacy. It's what I'm doing right now since my endo realized that we don't actually DO anything in the office except chat. No need to waste the gas.

Looking forward to hearing more from you!

Hugs!

I pretty much found this Forum for the same reasons.  And what you will find here is a wide range of Members and a great deal of experience and support for you.  So, besides the Resources page, the real-life day-to-day challenges and victories of all the lovely Members here will be your greatest resource and benefit.  I predict ?

Looking forward to hearing more from you❣️

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

I know there's no soliciting as a general rule, Jackie: there IS a place to talk about trans books and stuff, though, so if I just HAPPEN to ask there if anyone's read mine . . . :P For real, though, I'll make doubly sure I don't break any of the posting rules, that's the last thing I want and I'm honestly not here with "SELL MY BOOKS!" as a real priority, even if a few extra bucks in the bank would be nice.

Everyone here seems really cool so far. I don't know how active I'll be here, especially for the moment, but I'm glad I found this place: it really does look like a decent resource to start from.

Oh, and as for nearest medical college: that IS the place that's half the state away! Alas, Arkansas has one bastion of modernity, and that is Little Rock. Whereas where I live half the roads still aren't paved . . . .

Welcome!  Jackie's advice on finding telehealth options is very doable nowadays.  You may need to see a psychologist/LCSW for recommendation for hormones first though.  Also, totally doable on telehealth nowadays. I haven't met my counselor or endocrinologist in person in fact.  It's been easy to do all that.  Now, a year or two away when you are thinking about surgeries then you are going to have to meet people in person but even then, it's not many visits.

Thanks :)

Right now I'm waiting to try and get some form of health coverage before I make a big move. I'm self-employed, and not making a tremendous amount a month, but we're hoping that my being home to help my folks will help me get on medi-something to alleviate some of the costs of personal care.

*fingers crossed*

Hello Melanie!

Welcome.  Being sick and tired of being sick and tired is good enough reason to start moving forward, even if slowly.  You are not too old if you were concerned about that.  I wouldn't be worries about anyone "talking out of school" about you.  It's not that kind of site and we're not that type of group.

We had an author here (since departed) who published on Smashwords.  Most of the selections there are free though.  She had offered a code for anyone who wanted to read her books for free.  Not a good income earning model but it wasn't her goal.  Anyway, its just a thought.

You might look into Planned Parenthood for HRT if they are in your locality, and they offer the service.  Not all do.  Best of luck moving forward.  Please post when you can.  You'll find lots of caring support here.

Cheers,
Jani

Hi Melanie,

I don't know what part of the state you live in, but there are PFLAG, and therapy resources in NWA (Fayetteville). If you live on the Eastern side, Memphis should have what you need. On the South end there is Shreveport and to the North Springfield. I live in AR as well, and know about backwards places without good roads.

You should also be able to find resources by Googling "psychology today transgender resources"

I am getting GCS in Kansas City next year, because I am on Medicare and that limits my possibilities for anywhere local. Most therapists, doctors, surgeons, etc., now do telehealth as Jackie and Bri suggested.

Hugs,

Mike

That does get you the 'starting point' for cup size, but manufacturers, style, breast shape, etc... will effect the results.    Step one is of course finding the proper band fit, then figuring out the approximate cup size with the calculations. Of course you need to try on a few styles after that in different cup sizes close to your measured result until you get the perfect fit.    I have bras in a DD that fit just like my bras in DDD both from Torrid but different styles.    I have some DDD's that fit awesome and some that are a bit loose, but I measure a 46G. It's not wonder that 80% of women are wearing them wrong bra.

I firmly believe I drank entirely to much for about 25 years. Got drunk every day. This was my coping mechanism to keep hiding deep inside that I was a woman. I miss a lot of signs over the years. Now I drink mabye 1 or 2 beers a day don't even get a buzz anymore. totally accept myself and on regret is that I hide that part of my self which  truly makes me happy being violet 💜. I wasted a lot of time before  being self destructive and had no clue I was just hiding th real me

Is it a safe and friendly area for us to go.  The wife and I are looking for some where to go to allow me to be my true self.     thanks in advance

Hey, everyone. my life is going down the tubes. at least I think. So, today. A customer called about his car, I told him that the oil change was done. The parts to fix the check engine light are ordered. He can come and get it. For the weekend if he wants. Customer says I didn't want an oil change. it was check the engine light and check for an oil leak. Checking the work order says oil change. The boss wrote the vehicle up. checking with the customer on services wanted.   Being that I wrote down the appointment in the book. and clearly states oil leak. She is complaining because she can't read my small ish writing. It seems she read oil and assumed it as an oil change. It seems like she is blaming me.  She wound up going home because she was too upset. She is stressing about an eye problem she has, she has to get eye surgery it seems she has a tear in her eye.    I feel that I am short for this job. because of the BS they are blaming me on. Plus I am still upset about the trust issue. If either one of the bosses start their Shite tomorrow. I am walking out.

"I love you so much,"  Lois said.  They met in the driveway. "I could not live without you." "Neither could I." "What are we going to do?" "Find another counselor?" "No. I think we need to solve this ourselves." "Do you think we can?" "I don't know.  But what I know is that I don't want to go through that again.  I think we have to hope we can find a solution." "Otherwise, despair." "Yeah.   Truce?" "Okay,  truce." And they hugged.   "When we know what we want we can figure out how to get there."   That began six years of angry battles, with Odie insisted he could dress as he pleased and Lois insisting it did not please her at all.  He told her she was not going to control him and she replied that she still had rights as a wife to a husband. Neither was willing to give in, neither was willing to quit, and their heated arguments ended in hugs and more.   They went to a Crossdressers' Club, where they hoped to meet other couples with the same problems, the same conflicts, and the same answers, if anyone had any.  It took them four tries before they settled on a group that they were both willing to participate in.  This was four couples their own age, each with a cross dressing husband and a wife who was dealing with it.  They met monthly.  It was led by a 'mediator' who wanted people to express how they felt about the situation.  Odie and Lois, as newcomers, got the floor, and the meeting was finally dismissed at 1:30 in the morning - it was supposed to be over at 10 - and everyone knew how they felt about the situation.   There was silence in the car on the way home.   "We aren't the only ones dealing with this." Odie finally said.   "Who would have thought that?  You are right."   "Somebody out there has a solution." "I hope you are right."   "I hope in hope, not in despair."   "That's my Odie."

The counseling session was heated, if you could call it a counseling session.  Sometimes Lois felt he was on Odie's side, and sometimes on hers.  When he was on her side, Odie got defensive. She found herself being defensive when it seemed they were ganging up on each other.   "This is not working," Lois said angrily, and walked out.  "Never again. I want my husband back. Dr. Smith you are complicit in this."   "What?" said Odie.   The counselor looked at him.  "You will have to learn some listening skills."   "That is it? Listening skills?  You just destroyed my marriage, and you told me I need to learn listening skills?"   Dr. Smith said calmly,"I think you both need to cool off."   Odie looked at him and walked out, saying "And you call yourself a counselor."   "Wait a minute."   "No."

I have read some of it, mostly in areas specifically targeted at the LGBTQ+ peoples.   You also have to take into account what and who is behind the words, not just the words themselves. Together that creates context, right? Let's take some examples, under the Department of Health & Human Services section:   "Radical actors inside and outside government are promoting harmful identity politics that replaces biological sex with subjective notions of “gender identity” and bases a person’s worth on his or her race, sex, or other identities. This destructive dogma, under the guise of “equity,” threatens American’s fundamental liberties as well as the health and well-being of children and adults alike."   or   "Families comprised of a married mother, father, and their children are the foundation of a well-ordered nation and healthy society. Unfortunately, family policies and programs under President Biden’s HHS are fraught with agenda items focusing on “LGBTQ+ equity,” subsidizing single-motherhood, disincentivizing work, and penalizing marriage. These policies should be repealed and replaced by policies that support the formation of stable, married, nuclear families."   From a wording perspective, who doesn't want to protect the health and well-being of Americans or think that families aren't good for America? But let's take a look at the author, Roger Severino. He's well-quoted to be against LGBTQ+ anything, has standard christian nationalist views, supports conversion therapy, etc.   So when he uses words like "threatens the health and well-being of children and adults alike" it's not about actual health, it's about enforcing cis-gendered ideology because he (and the rest of the Heritage Foundation) believe LGBTQ+ people and communities are harmful. Or when he invokes the family through the lens of, let's just say dog whistles including the "penalization of marriage" (how and where?!), he idealizes families involving marriage of a "biological male to a biological female" and associates LGBTQ+ family equity as something unhealthy.   Who are the radical actors? Who is telling people to be trans, gay, or queer in general? No one. The idea that there can be any sort of equity between LGBTQ+ people and "normal" cis people is abhorrent to the author, so the loaded language of radical/destructive/guise/threaten are used. Families that he believes are "good" are stable/well-ordered/healthy, specifically married/nuclear ones.   Start looking into intersectionality of oppression of non-privileged groups and how that affects the concept of the family and you will understand that these platitudes are thinly veiled wrappers for christian nationalist ideology.   What's wrong with equity for queer families, to allow them full rights as parents, who are bringing up smart and able children? Or single mothers who are working three jobs to get food on plates?
