how do you apply it without it getting all over your fingers?

i can not put on nail polish to save my life, im great with all the other make up but i fail at nail polish and i love to be extravigant and being totaly out there is impossible without matching nails.

plus i bite my nails down so low theres not much nail before the tip of my finger comes up.

any help would be much apreciated

Have you explored the world of "Glue on Nails?"

There is a bunch of things that you can do with that..lenghts, colors, shapes...lots and lots!

And as for applying the polish?

You just have to do it over and over until you are good at it...no magic there!

No magic trick - Have you tried the stick on color? Your nails have to be really pretty before you use polish. Polish brings attention to all the flaws.

Clean your hands thoroughly.

Sit comfortably at a table or desk.

Do any major emery board work, always from the outside edges in.

Open the bottle.

Spread out one hand on the table.

With the other hand, dip the brush and scrape off all the polish on ONE side of the brush as you take it out of the bottle.

Paint a nail with the brush, loaded side down.

Start in the center and work to one side, then the center again and do the other side

Back to the bottle for more polish

Next nail.

Finish the hand.

Wait a minute, give the wet hand a moment (or better - 3 minutes), then switch hands.

After you have done both hands keep them still for 5 minutes or put them under a fan or cool hair dryer.

After they are thoroughly dry, touch up the leading edge with the finest emery board you have if necessary.

Works fairly well once you get used to it.

Now my turn - what do you do for paper-thin slivering nails? I take calcium, a host of vitamins, Biotin, Gelatin, Whey protein. What else can I do to improve nail growth?

i used to wear fake nails, i'de dye the glue red and then pull them off during the day and throw the nails at people and scream that there was so much blood, lol. i was a horrible child.

i havent woren fake nails since back then cuase my nails are wider and kinda flat so fake nails dont fit on them.

also its always those clear nail polish looking stuff that makes your nails stronger, my friend puts that stuff on like every hour.

Sally Hansen Hard as Nails is amazing stuff. Two coats and your nails are, well...hard as nails! The best part is it's clear so you can be sloppy and no one will ever know

A few more tips:

Get a professional manicure once so you can see how the nail tech does it and try to copy her.

I am right handed and polish the nails on my RIGHT hand first. It is muuuch easier to apply polish to my left hand with wet nails on my dominant hand than the other way around. I don't even have to wait to start to do my left hand.

Use the three stroke method, once down the middle of the nail and once on either side and a light pass across the tip of the nail.

Cuticle desolver and a metal cuticle pusher is the best $10 you can spend!

Just do it slowly. I find that if I plan on putting on more than one coat, I can do it perfectly every time. Oh.. and it's best not to be on your fourth or fifth adult beverage when trying to apply polish.

Before you do, clean your nails by washing them or use product to clean and make them fatty free, dry them, they must be dry before you file them. I then file them starting from the left towards the center, and then from the right towards the center.

Then I apply a base coat (depending on which color)

I do three strokes starting in a top corner, then middle, then other corner in three strokes its usually covered. Then let air dry (or put them fingers a glass of cold water if your in a hurry) don't use those UV lamps, they cause skin cancer on the fingers. So patience is a virtue.

Depending on the color, you might want to layer, 2 or 3 times to cover it. I do toenails also, requires one to be fit!

I also do a french manicure on myself. This requires quite some practice. At first I used tape to seal the tip of the nail, later on I just did it freehand by having the tip of the nail polish horizontally and do it in 1 stroke fast over the basecoat.

After all this fun stuff I apply a clear or top coat. This way I can walk around for 1 week if I want it.

i actualy had one of my best girlfriends over last night and she did my nails, my toenails, my hair, my make-up and we watched connie and carla while comparing who could make more realistic fake breasts, lol. we're weird but being 16 you gotta make your own fun.

Outside of keeping my nails smoothly rounded and longer...

I use a clear, brush on nail strengthener that is applied one coat every night for ten days.

Then you remove it and start all over again!

It has a high gloss and keeps my nails from breaking so easily. And working around my place it's hard to keep a decent set of nails! DANG! DANG! DANG!

But it really helps a LOT!

Yes I use nail harder as well:

It's from Herome.

Makes nails very hard which is useful if you want to grow them large. I use it until it's empty and then after 6 months I do another session, otherwise it's not so good for the nails. It really makes a notable difference especially if they tend to be thin and break easily.

I second whoever said Sally Hanson Hard as Nails! That is *the* best nail polish!! I swear by the extreme wear stuff, it lasts forever, and paired with the no chip acrylic top coat, my nails are good to go! I've found when it comes to nail polish, you really get what you pay for, I gladly spend the extra money for good stuff, 'cause it lasts so much longer.

I'm also very sloppy with my nail polish, but once it's dry, wash your hands in warm soapy water, your skin should by softer and moist, and it's super easy to peel the nail polish off your skin. Voila!

OPI & Essie are two best brands I've found. As for mistakes just keep a Q-tip wetted with polish remover nearby so you can fix them before they dry. warm regards, Isabella

Brittle? I was just going to say Sally Hansen Hard as Nails - i use it all the time and when i don't I regret it. OPI is my favorite for color.

I find - one coat at a time - allow a day in between - is great if ou have the time - if you have the patience. If you over apply and get some ovet the cuticle - repare it much later not when it happens - let it totally dry and then fix it
