Weird Music Preference

Has anyone ever encountered they love certain songs that just scream their physical selves that which for the most part we are trying to escape?

I kind of have to ask this one because I listen to a lot of AC/DC, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, and that such. Most of these are all guys playing in the 80s talking about very "guy" things, but somehow I love their music.

Examples:

AC/DC

Another AC/DC

Motley Crue

Kind of get the idea? This lyrics scream everything I hate and loathe about myself, but I love the music and know most of the words by heart.

I have my music on shuffle and You Shook Me All Night Long started playing right before I clicked on this thread. :D

I like a lot of rock music, classic rock as well as newer stuff. I'm trying to find more old school music though, since I've realized there's still a lot of classics I don't even really know, but I'm running out of hard disk space lol :/

I guess it's more stereotypically "male" in a way but I know girls who listen to things like that. Or, especially female/female-fronted rock bands, their influences are often more male-oriented i guess you can say. One of my friends is into a lot of classic rock, and she has a black AC/DC band tee - more likely than not it's a guys' shirt. and she has other ones like zeppelin or smth as well. I wouldn't say it's "weird."

I could probably also say i listen to girilier music, though maybe I'm being overly critical about it.... just cuz a girl is singing it doesn't necessarily make it girly i guess but how many guys like stuff like The Donnas and Shania Twain? lol.

I listen to violent and depressing music but I'm a huge pacifist and I am very happy and cheerful. I don't really listen to any girly music, with I guess the exception of An Cafe. I listen to some female fronted stuff (Emilie Autumn, Ayria, Theatre des Vampires, Hate in the Box) but none of it is really girly. The only feminine-ish band I listen to (An Cafe) is all male.

Going to have to check out some of these bands.

I'm still listening to Fear Factory, Sepultura, Iron Maiden and AC/DC even though I thought once starting HRT I may not be interested any more. I don't listen to them as much, but when I do, it's special. And yeah Janelle you are right inloving music of which stereotypes/whatever we're trying to escape.

But my musical genres/fav bands have mushroomed since leaving high school. Love PJ Harvey. Portishead. Me'Shell Ndegéocello. Weird jazz and classical combos. Prog metal. Drum'n'bass. Sometimes I'm stuck for what to play since it's all so good!

Yeah, same thing, I used to listen to Black Metal and Folk Metal, etc. almost exclusively. I've slowly expanded my horizons and have just recently realized how eclectic my tastes have become. Can't stand saccharine music, however. I still love metal, and I know quite a few girls who are heavily into it too. People like what they like.

AC/DC like a lot of those 80's bands I love, but only under the right circumstances. I used to be able to listen to that kind of music all day but the further along this trail of transition I walk the more that my tastes are turning to Jazz and Swing music (that is classic and New Orleans Jazz). Two female Jazz artists whom I love are the Late Great Ella Fitzgerald and a Canadian by the name of Dianna Krall, yes you can toss Basie, Ellington, Miller and a whole bunch more in. 70's and 80's rock used to be an addiction but eh not so much anymore, I also listen to a lot of country which is something that I used to not do

Having been a musician all my life, my tastes run the gamut .....classical, country, rock, jazz, blues...I just appreciate music in general...

Joanna: I also love Dianna Krall..........

But some of my favorites are Fleetwood Mac, Bonnie Raitt, Billie Holiday, Abby Rodeo, ELO, ELP and Trans Siberian Railroad!

Turn that record over, will you?

(sorry, I'm older....lol!)

Well here is another shocker, like Donna Jean (I know what are the odds) I have been a musician ever since I was old enough to sit at the piano and once I found the trumpet it was an obsession (not the perfume - although if you haven't bought my present yet...).

I am a fan of Classical (all periods including Gregorian Chant), Jazz, big band, blues, dixieland, rock, country, electronic, Movie and Broadway soundtracks well everything except rap - I haven't heard anything there that has captured my imagination.

My favorites Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears, Maynard Ferguson, Doc Severinsen, Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton, Timofei Dokshizer, Simon and Garfunkel, The London Symphony, the Berlin Phiharmonic and so many others.....

I have been to live performances from Black Sabbath to the London Symphony Orchestra in locations from a string quartet in the amphitheater in Ephesus to Adam Ant in the Bronco Bowl - That's right bowling alley, batting cages, archery range and a concert hall - only in Texas!

So I am there if you can hum it, I'll try to play it.

Love ya,

Sally

iwrestledabearonce........... i gotta say i really dont like em. it is easier for me to say the music i dislike ( not because im negative, but because there is a lot less :P) I also Can't stand Insane Clown Posse, most rap that is too sexual i dont like. um, to bring back iwrestledabearonce. i dont not like them, it is more that it all sounds the same, and i have bands who sound like them anyway. not to hurt feelings, however if you are a fan of Insane Clown Posse, i can not help you. sorry! lol

I like a lot of 'guy' music like you posted (80s rock ballads, heavy metal, THE LONELY ISLAND FTW)--but, also enjoy 'girly' things like Britney Spears, Cascada, The Idolm@ster (girl dancing videogame!)

If music is good, it's good to listen to, no matter what the gender gap. It can make for interesting listening! :D

I'm all about metal, specifically:

Black Sabbath

Judas Priest

Mercyful Fate

And the like. I love AC/DC as well, and there's nothing wrong with being a girl AND liking "guy" music. Listen to what you enjoy, and don't let anyone tell you it's wrong. I am a self-proclaimed rocker chick, and I'm darn proud of it. I like being different from the girly girls who only like the flavour of the month (no offense, really).

I listen to metal. I drink way too much Pepsi. Neither of those define me, and your music choices don't define you. There may be elements that have a meaning, but the music itself is just that, music. It's purpose is to be enjoyed.

AC/DC are a 70's band .. probably one of the best.. certainly right up there with the best.

I like all sorts of things too.. nothing wrong with being yourself. I used to do live sound and got a taste for the early death/thrash bands like slayer and xentrix... so there. I still go and see some of the local metal merchants from time to time. I guess they appreciate my support as one of the local old time heroes of rock.

Bon Scott.. well what can you say? .. live fast die young.. and never ever compromise or sell out on his (lack of) principles.

Asked in an interview once

"Bon, are you ac or dc?"

"neither man.. I'm the f------ lightnin'"

A proper superstar of rock.. for all time... and Australian dammit... yet another reason he was sooooo hot and so much of an influence on me growing up.

Janelle, I used to listen to that kind of music all the time when I was in a depressed mood which was most of the time. Know that I have found myself and know what I want, I find myself listening to more upbeat music with a happy tune.

I use to listen to Manson, Metallica, Seether, Ozzy, Linkin Park, White Zombie and all of those metal bands. If it makes you happy to listen to these than go for it. For myself, it is now softer music because I am in a better place now.

Love,

Sarah F

The most "guy" type music I like is the Rolling Stones. In some moods nothing else will do. Also some blues singers, like Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf.

I never got in to Heavy Metal, and if I want to listen to something depressing and loud Nick Cave or maybe Nirvana or the Pixies are just fine. Again depends on my mood.

Mostly I listen to folk and similar music and classical. My favourite new album of the last five years is Joanna Newsom's Ys which isn't blokish at all, but still clears the room at parties :D .

I felt the urge to date and felt just like a teenager again. I have recorded my journal titled Ashley's Life From Start to Present. I was very moody and agitated and happy. I think it was my body's way of being in shock. After about two months it got better. Remember that you aren't the only one transitioning because your wife is too. Consider yourself lucky because I lost mine because of it and so have many others. Just enjoy the ride.

Views, terminology, and aspects of how events came to be....aren't those directly related to the news item?  If not, I'm rather confused.

Second warning, this has gotten far and apart from the NEWS item that it started out with and is becoming a flat out battleground over political leanings and terminology.

Welcome to Lefty Land.... a festive theme park full of sparkles and unicorns, a perfect place except for one evil orange dragon wearing a blond wig.    I'm always amazed at the "flexibility" of definitions.  One person's f@scist seems like a centrist to others.  One person's "moderate" looks to others like the 2nd coming of Fidel Castro.  A normal marriage a century or two ago is now a criminal offense, and relationships that used to be a criminal offense are now open, normal marriages.  Pedophiles now want to be called "minor attracted persons" and teenagers are now defined as children.  A Republican in NY or CA would be a Democrat just about anywhere else.  I'm certainly no advocate for relativism, these are just observations.    What I find interesting about this Australian candidate is the attitude that he shouldn't be allowed to run for office.  Why?  Just because his views are different, or even offensive?  Who makes that determination?  Can an election really be open and fair if it is barred to candidates who are not "politically correct?"  Here in the USA, we can openly have candidates who are f@scist or any other thing they want to be, no real restrictions aside from eligibility requirements related to age, location, citizenship, and criminal record.

@Birdie You certainly have more patience than I do.  I don't take it well if I get scolded.  Either I sulk or I get nippish.    We had a good Mother's Day here yesterday.  Quite an event, since 4 of my partners are mothers.  GF enjoys it a lot, because she's very (excessively?) proud of having produced her 5 kids.  Her eldest starts school this fall.  Amazing how time flies...

Reminds me of elementary school when a kid yanked my chair as I was taking a seat. I told him to "go suck an egg" and we both got sent to the principals office. I was like, "tf did I do to deserve that?"

Firstly, it's nice to hear that your other half is now open to you living as you are!   Secondly, things I have noticed, having started shots just before the New Year: Tears do come much more easily I am far more tender with my wife and I like to snuggle more I have noticed anxiety has an increased effect on me I am on a weekly injection, so when I get near my next shot I have noticed feeling a little emotionally "blah" After shots I am much more energetic and bubbly Otherwise, I wouldn't say I've been on any kind of roller coaster of emotion and I'm far from unstable. So take heart and congratulations!
