Masculine Voices For Us Pre-t Guys?

Hey, I know there are feminizing effects you can do to a masculine voice... does the opposite phenomenon exist for us pre-T guys?

I'm being constantly ma'amed on the phone and it's infinitely frustrating. I don't always have the patience to deal with hearing it. Is there any reliable way to deepen/masculinize one's voice?

Singing works well for some. Pick a song you like and try singing it an octave lower than you normally would. Males tend to speak in flat tones while a woman's voice tends to rise and lower in pitch as she speaks. Hope I haven't totally confused you.

I can talk like a guy, but my voice still sounds too high to be anything but a pre pubescent kid.

A lot of bioguys AND transguys have said my voice sounds masculine... but I'm STILL getting ma'ams, which is really infuriating.

I do try to pitch it low, but it doesn't really seem to help.

Just relax your voice. Don't do a fake low pitch, because it will sound . . . fake. Yeah, and don't let your voice go all over the place. You will still sound prepubescent, but at your age it will probably do (you are a high schooler, right? Gosh darned, I should've checked). On the phone, however, you will probably still get ma'amed. Tough sh*t.

Yep, I'm a high-schooler.

I present easily face-to-face... guess I'm just gonna have to straw inhaler it up until they invent commercial videophones.

The only thing we can really do is practice. Sometimes my voice passes, other times it doesn't, so even with practice it can be really difficult. It also helps to record yourself so you know what you sound like.

I agree, practice/work on it.

I've been blessed with a really deep voice, and nobody ma'ams me. When I was in middle school, people thought I was my dad on the phone. That always made me happy. My only tips to people is speak more monotone. Another thing is the laugh. Men don't really giggle, or have high-pitched, bubbly laughs. Belly-laughing in a deep tone can help one pass in a funny situation.

I saw Loren Cameron on Discovery Health. Yeah, I did wonder what was up with his voice. It's kind of squeaky and does not match his appearance.

I agree, practice/work on it.

I don't even know how to belly laugh. Luckily (or perhaps unluckily) I don't laugh very much.

Yep, variable results with voice. Not a transgender thing, just a human thing. I heard one of the Hamm twins speaking just after he won the olympics, and man did he have a high voice. Higher than most girls.

I'm not sure if my voice is getting deeper or if I'm just becoming more masculine but I'm getting sirred more often than ma'amed on the phone now... whoop.

Don't feel bad at all about being ma'amd'd on the phone.

the operators/customer service people are taught to assume it's a woman

Some women, especially older ones, have deep voices

I dunno it's weird...but I called AT&T using my regular voice (which is pretty darn low)

and they referred to me as Ma'am, hehe but I didn't correct them, since I was just asking questions.

and..yea don't try a deep like moan low voice cause it sounds fake...kinda like how guys try an unimaginably high female voice.

P.S. I need help w/ my female voice.

I've heard of voice stretches, i have a video on youtube, i'll find it later & post a link if i can.

I do one that i believe Tyra Banks used to do when she first started her talk show, because her voice was very high & hyper sounding, so basically she'd make this deep "Oooooooooooooooooooooooo" sound for like 10 minutes, i've been doing it & it does help lower your voice register. Though, i still need a lot of practice, and i sing so i need to practice singing that low, i can't hit the low notes :[

the voice will go more masculine with TESTOSTERONE injections in time . you should be able to get voice therapy aswell for FTM just like you can get for MTF.

@Loreleiit always sucks getting a ticket for passing a slower vehicle. I'm guessing the police officer was some distance behind you until you performed your passing maneuver. My most costly ticket was from a similar situation, however we were heading out of town and the last straight stretch of road to pass the two slower vehicles ahead of me was still in a 35mph zone. I didn't see the officer behind me and as soon as I pulled out to pass he turned on his lights and siren. Since I was in the process of passing, I figured the next safe place to pull over was at the upcoming roadside park. He didn't accept that and wrote me up for passing two gaps, speed in excess of 15mph over, and failure to stop. He did not care to hear about any fellowship in public safety, and no professional curiosities would be honored.  I did go to court plead my case and the judge, and he did see my point of continuing to pass with the intentions of pulling over safely at the roadside park. He was very familiar with the location. This allowed him to drop the failure to stop charges, but I did have to pay the full 15mph over speeding ticket. So my lesson learned was to never pass when entering or leaving a small town or village.   Hugs, and good luck in court.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Marriage complicates things.  We think we know someone… but then we don't. My ex supports me, but we're certainly not married.  She actually took me out for dinner a couple days ago. But if I said I didn't miss her it would be a lie.  That part is still hard. The hard truth is I had to get away from her, to have the freedom to find myself. Maybe it won't be that way for y'all.

Kymmie, it's hard to think of her as an ally when she's still re-posting anti-trans information. On the flip side my wife is supportive of everyone else in the LGBTQIA community, and reluctantly supporting me.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I'm sorry you and so many others in the military, were assaulted and bullied, just for being who you are. I'm glad that you've seen your old therapist and seem to be better since 2001.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

@Sally Stone This is a great thread and resonates with me as well. Please keep it going!   +1 on leg hair. Mine basically stopped growing on its own in my early 30s (cause unknown), but I prefer the look. Was never comfortable with body hair.

One FB post from an old friend who lives 250 miles away and has no idea of any of this, and a news article this morning about someone with multiple mental problems  assert that transgender people are controlled by demons.   Me not happy.  Can't reason with some people.
