Sneezing And Shoes

Hi everyone.

I have 2 quick questions.

1) I wear an abnormally large shoe size. 15-4E New Balance or a 16 Nike (guy sizes), where do I find women's sizes that big?

2) How do I make myself sneeze quieter?

Any help is great.

Wow, Janelle, you post some interesting questions!

Here are links to a couple of internet shoe companies that have at least some shoes in sizes

up to 14-16. In pumps and other dress shoes, the selection is pretty limited. There are a lot

more choices in athletic and casual shoes.

http://www.cinderellashoes.ie/categories/Size/US-Sizes/

http://www.zappos.com/shoes

I'm afraid I can't be much help in the sneeze department. I would think that if

you tried to stifle the sneeze volume, you might give yourself a hernia.

So I would be careful with that, OK?

Hopefully someone else here is a sneeze expert!

Good luck with the shoes!

With a title like that, I just HAD to peek and see what this was about......LOL!

But, I guess that it's not as weird as I first thought!

Carolyn has you fixed up on the shoe thing.....

And be careful trying to stiffle those sneezes! You could blow something out that isn't that easy to replace!

Janelle, just remember, Honey, that women's shoes usually run 1.5 - 2 sizes smaller than men's.

I wear a 6.5 men's shoe, and about an 8.5 women's. Zappos has great service though. On your

second and later orders, they upgrade your UPS to overnight, and you get your shoes in one day!

Intriguing title to your post Janelle,

I can't help you with your sneezing problem however I'll trade you your loud sneezing for my alleged snoring problem.

I have trained myself to sneeze through my mouth. I have allergies and back problems. The frequent sneezing and snapping of my spine hurt me. Bad. So I had to find a way to get the sneeze reflex to NOT snap my spine, and sneezing through my mouth works. No (or little) snap. Coincidentally, also much quieter. My hand, hanky, whatever is still there to cover, so no one notices the difference, but it involves much less of a jerk motion and is almost silent.

So many women here train their voice, something I have never even tried and that has to be much harder, so if I can train a sneeze, you can.

oh, yes, sneezing. Isn't it so interesting that only a day or two ago, I mentioned one of my psycho-somatic conditions (being able to become incredibly drowsy - if not fall asleep - by thinking certain thoughts) posting that I would mention the other at some later time. Later seems to have come sooner, because how can I pass up this thread?

Well, here is my other one. When I start a daydream about cross-dressing (the first 10 seconds or so), depending on the imagined situation, I sneeze. Usually about 3 times (and as many as 7!!!), and have done so since my teens. I've tried to stifle them, reduce the noise, work my way back before I hit the brink, mostly to no avail. Once they're done, tho, things are just fine.

However, I have learned some things. One is if I pinch my nose right around the bridge (I think you would have to experiment), I can sometimes relieve the growing irritation, actually reducing the size of the sneeze, if not almost eliminating it.

Two is, I really don't think that once you've reached the point of no return that you can do anything about it. Maybe have your larynx shaved or whatever I've heard barely mentioned about surgically changing one's voice. If you try to stifle it after it's started, I have read that you can cause all sorts of problems around your diaphram. Not a good thing to do.

Tho, I think it may be slightly possible to reduce the noise, but I suspect it would take a very long time and a lot of concentration as you would have to remember to work on it every time, and if you can't control the times of sneezes, it probably isn't worth the miniscule reduction that might be available each time. Like about a .5% (like, less than 1!!!) or less reduction each time. I guess it's like the possibility mentioned above, training one's voice.

I also wouldn't recommend trying to stop every sneeze. Sometimes, I think they're needed as the body's way of righting whatever may be causing a problem.

For my 'condition', I work on changing my thoughts. That's the only thing I've found that helps.

Good luck!

Yep, right you are, Chloe!

Sneezing is the bodies reaction to an irritation (Usually of the dust/pollen kind) and it's the way the body attempts to expel the irritant!

But, other things can trigger a sneeze...My brother would sneeze when he would walk outdoors into the bright sunshine!

A girl here where I work always sneezes in threes....1-2-3.....God knows why!.....LOL!

Achoo!

I wore an 7 1/7 mans size.Unbelieveably,I can wear a 7 1/2 or 8 womens depending on if they

are open or closed toe. What I would do,is go to a shoe store and measure your feet using the

womens side of the scale to have less chance of an error. And go in the afternoon or early evening

after your feet have settled from a day of being on them.(I was once in shoe sales)

Well I can't help much with shoes (my feet aren't huge) but I think I can with the sneeze. I have the cutest little sneeze - hardly quiet but makes other people smile because it's so childlike.

Just like voice, bring it up into your nose, out of your chest. Squeeze it ALL up into your nose and let 'er rip! A little practice and you will be sneezing like a little girl LOL!

Have you tried seeing a chiropractor for your back problems. Mine is God sent, he gets me fixed up in no time.

But beware there are some terrible ones out there.

Oh my Goodness!!! Size 15? I wear a size 12 in men's and I thought that was big. You have been provided with some good sources for bigger shoes, I usually go to Payless, however they are limited in shoe selection when it comes to bigger sizes. Cannot help you with the sneezing problem though.

You can make a cute little sneeze if you make a distinct "Choo." I don't remember where I heard the tip, but it is easy to do and works quite well :)

Plug your nose when you sneeze so it comes out of your mouth, but keep your mouth closed also. After you've mastered this, you can sneeze in the same fashion without actually holding your nose. Once you've gotten that down, you can accompany it with a cutesy girly sound within your closed mouth.

Well, The very best advice that I can give is to get shoes that are tight enough so that you don't blow them off while sneezing!

There ya go!

In all the years that I have been on this planet (which is most of my life) I have not mastered the art of finding the correct size shoes and sneezing. I am now compiling all of the advice that has been put forth on this post and am going to come up with on LullaPoluzza (I don't think that is a word) of a remedy. LOL

Thanks Jean,

And yes, and they have helped periodically, but the issue with me is that I have tumors in my spine and the surgeons have removed pieces of vertebrae to get at them. Can't adjust a spine for missing bone.

Yes, that was what I meant. Just focus on actually saying "Choo" in your girl voice as you sneeze. It works pretty well for me :)

I am gender fluid, leaning heavily towards trans masc. My eldest is male and despite all the "stuff" we deal with with him (autism, speech delay, etc) I found him to be easy to raise. When my middle kid (female) was born, literally the first words out of my mouth were "I don't know how to raise a girl!" And I really felt I didn't know. She showed me. She's still showing me how to exist as comfortable and completely secure in her gender expression. It is entirely awe inspiring to see all three of them feel so settled in their bodies in ways that I never, ever felt or feel to this day.

That sounded like an awesome opportunity to dress as your actual self. I have to say I'm a little jealous lol. I never got compliments from people and definitely haven't been kissed. I can imagine that part was still really nice and boosted your confidence.

I've been absent so much lately I feel as if I'll never catch up. Too much going on in our lives that's kept me away from the keyboard. and limited my time as "me."   I am so looking forward to your post on how you arrange your life. I know that I won't ever be able to fully transition so finding some happy balance is crucial for me.

Mae, you are so sweet for making this comment.   Desert Fox, you are so right.  I always knew that even though I was part-time, my motivation was way more complicated than a simple desire to wear women's clothes.   Your question is a timely one because in my next post, I am going to talk about how compartmentalized my life is, and the short answer is yes.  I have friends who only know Sally, friends who only my male persona, and a rare few that know both.

@EasyE With my background in Behavioral Sciences I do go to actual conferences for the medical and psychological professionals that deal with Trans Youth, and in those conferences, the ethics of "too fast" versus "too slow and restrictive" are a heavy concern.  There is very thoughtful sharing among the participants for making professional judgments that the therapist is comfortable with without being afraid of what is "too soon" or "not soon enough" to advance to medical prescription therapies. The ethics of what constitute reasonable caution or unreasonable delay are deeply at play in those situations, with the idea to prevent harm while alleviating the patient's stress and other issues.  This type of conference fulfills Continuing Education license requirements that most states and other areas have.  From them the therapist may seem to "speed up" their evaluation process, but it is based on the accumulated experience of colleagues, just as is true in other professions and yes, even trades.

Surgeries are drastic, and indeed should be a last resort for minors.  As indeed they are.  It is very rare for anyone under 18 to get gender-affirming surgery.  It is typically only done if the person would be suicidal without it.   Puberty blockers are a way to avoid the "drastic measure" of forcing the person to undergo the wrong puberty.  They should not be prescribed lightly, and I don't think they are.  They are a way to go slow until the person can truly make an informed decision.

My Endo keeps track of several trace chemicals in my blood system that can be affected by our slightly different hormone balance, keeping in mind we have had both hormones all our life, just in different balance.  I did have to change one diuretic I was taking that was crashing out one chemical that does affect energy levels, and it turned out that Spiro was the alternative to that one for the way it works there.  I was never on Spiro for the hormone issues per se.  Let your doctor know about the fatigue sometime today or whenever you read this.

Hmmm .  .  . if I only had a ten-word description that completely described my identity. That would be great, but one doesn't exist. "I'm a girl—and a boy. And neither—and both?" There. Now you know, right? Maybe not. —Davie
