Hiyas everyone, I'm Katie~ ^^ ..well, not yet, but I will be one day! I'm a 22-year-old Canadian MTF, though I'm just going to be starting my transition... I'm pretty strong-willed and always knew I wanted to get a sex change ever since I was little, but I've never been able to act on it because my parents are fiercely lgbt-phobic. All I was ever able to do was read about transitioning online in secret and save what I could... But a week ago, I finally got my very own apartment and all the privacy and freedom I could ask for!

I can't wait to start buying my first girl clothes and getting hormone therapy and electrolysis! ...that's what I want to do, anyways, but I know the more mature idea would to be wait a couple months while keeping track of my expenses to see what kind of monthly budget I have to work with first... it's still so tempting to jump right into all that, though!

Anyhows, I'm here because I'd like to make some Transgender and/or open-minded friends. And, if I'm lucky, find a nearby real-life trans or lgbt support group where I could make some local friends for once and find out about therapists and other services around here. (Is asking about local support groups or if people know good therapists/etc in my city against the rules? I know asking about personal information is, but does that include those too? I don't want to get in trouble but I haven't had much luck in figuring out where to start or making friends here yet.)

Well, thanks for reading. :3

Hey Katie

So nice to meet you, welcome to the playground.

I think that it is very wise of you to wait and see what your budget will look like. This way you can plan ahead and when you do start you won't get stalled quite as easily because of financial problems. And there is definately nothing wrong with setting your own pace, the more you prepare and educate yourself the easier your transition will be.

As for making friends, that won't be hard here, there are so many friendly people here at Laura's that you'll have friends in no time.

Then when you get 5+ posts under your belt you'll be able to PM anyone here. :P And I for one just love to chat, so feel free to PM me when you can. ;)

The playground has a page of therapists, perhaps there is one there that is close to where you live. And as far as personal info goes, no adresses or names (can't get any closer than city and state). this is for your own protection so don't even give them out in a PM if you don't trust the individual you're chatting with. ;)

Anyways more of our family should come along shortly to say HI and usually they bring some treats along. I would have but I'm a lousy cook.

Welcome Katie!!!

Welcome sweetie to Laura's Playground!!! Yes indeed sweetheart you will make friends here!!! Laura's is full of wonderful, beautiful, friendly people who will help you and make you feel at home. It is certainly OK to ask about if anyone knows about any LGBT support groups iand gender therapists in your city. I am sure that you will find that crossdressing is just uplifiting!! I am excited for you that you are now in a position to express yourself.

I know that you can't wait to start your transitioning, but sweetheart you have to go through a gender therapist to get on Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Take things one step at a time hon and be honest with your therapist. It is important that you follow the wpath Standards of Care to transition properly and safely.

There are gender therapists available online!!!

Welcome hon!!

Brenda

Oh, one minor note... we prefer transgendered, trans, gender-gifted over the word "Transgender"

Ah, thank you everyone for the warm welcome and yummy treats! ^^

The playground has a page of therapists, perhaps there is one there that is close to where you live.

Thanks, I've seen that list before and the one on tsroadmap. The nearest ones tend to be in toronto which is a few hours away, and I don't drive and am sorta afraid of travelling... I'd like to find a closer one if I can, but haven't had any luck in any web or phonebook searches yet.

you must be so excited to be in your own place. biggrin.gif

Time to run amok.

I am! But the excitement and desire to run amuk both kind of die down when you realize just how much work it is to do every bit of cleaning yourself for a full place... x3;; I have a new respect for every cleaner and independent person xD;;;

There are gender therapists available online!!!

Really? I didn't know that! @.@ Can they even provide perscriptions for hormones and recommend you for SRS without having physically met you...?

Oh, one minor note... we prefer transgendered, trans, gender-gifted over the word "Transgender"

Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't know it was an improper term, I didn't mean to offend anyone...

Thanks again for your greetings all!

Hi Katie,

Welcome I am glade you are here.

It is hard to be patient, Oh Honey I know!

I am in a similar place but, much older and with many different concerns. We will travel this path together and as my Therapist says you need to get on the train and once you do then you can decide how far you want to go down the tracks toward the final surgery to become a woman. There is much we need to do to get there and it will take a long time but, I intend to enjoy the journey.

I wish you happiness

Peace & Love Amanda

Having taken on the site, forums, and all of the bills, from Dev (May 2020) and because I also want to be fully transparent about the cost of running the site, I feel it's time to update this information. Sorry that it has taken me two years since I last gave an update, just life getting in the way.   If you'd like to donate, please do so via the green bar at the top of the forum pages.  The months of July through October are pretty heavy with annual and semi-annual expenses and every little bit helps.   Here's the breakdown as it stands now:   Chat is now free. (Stu now runs the Chat)   Regular Charges: There are occasional one off's as well. Forums:  $70.00 every six months (February and August, effectively billed in January and July). (Was $45 until 2022, support ticket system depreciated!) Resource Locator:  $53.00 yearly, this "widget" failed this year, so I have been able to find a (currently) free replacement. Resource Locator Mapping: Google maps, currently under the minimum monthly usage, so free. Email Delivery: $5.00 monthly currently free, changed to a service that offers a much larger monthly allowance. Server Rental:  $30.00 monthly. Greatfully sponsored by The Breast Form Store. Security Software:  Now included in the package we have. Domain Renewals: Approx $75 annual charges for Transgenderpulse.com, Lauras-playground.com and the server domain. Contact Us Form Software: $79 yearly (August).   Total Monthly Breakdown: $54.50 per month.  (Annual bills = $654) Updated May 2024 (Slightly down on previous years).   Now then.  I'm on a fixed income, which means I know what it's like not having a penny to spare.  If you're not in a position to donate, please don't feel guilty; I didn't take over here to turn a profit.  The lights will stay on.  Donations are very much appreciated, but they are not a requirement of membership.   An update to clarify a couple of points: Because you have to use your legal name with PayPal, emails confirming your donation from PayPal will be from a name with the initials "DS", not Petra Jane and the email used is tgp (at) uk-web***   Unfortunately, we can only accept payment through PayPal, and please ensure that you have permission to make any donation through a PayPal account, we have been stung by someone alledgedly using a PayPal account without the owner's permission and incurred an additional $20 chargeback to refund the donation!   We have recently seen a number of these of late so I am asking that genuine donators please add your forum username in the comment box so that I, and I alone, will know who has sent the donation and that it is genuine. Thank you. Also, this appears only to Members who are logged in on the forums, New Members need to have made a minimum of 10 posts.   Let me reassure you: Donations help towards ongoing costs related to keeping the site running, including hosting, bandwidth, etc. It also encourages us to commit regular updates, add features, and improve the service. Our promise to you is that this site and its use will always remain free of charge.     Petra Jane

This is the dress I'll be wearing this evening while we watch the Kentucky Derby. Not sure if I'll throw on heels or flats with it - probably flats but I haven't worn heels in a while and the Force is strong.

Good morning, everyone!! I'm already on my 3rd cup of coffee and it's just 5AM. I can't imagine why no one else is here posting already!!??    It's supposed to be a cool day here with rain in the afternoon so no lounging outside for me. Our pool was opened yesterday so I'll make sure we have what we need to get it cleaned up and ready. The water temp is only about 60 right now so after I get the algae knocked down and the salt level right to begin making chlorine, I'll turn on the heater to warm it up. Probably a week before we'll be swimming.   Today is Kentucky Derby day so we'll put on dresses, hats and have a Mint Julep while we watch on TV.    Enjoy this beautiful day we've been given!!

I feel like it took a while to land in the 'middle zone', but it did happen. But obviously all those decades of testosterone poisoining take their toll, the middle zone is still preferable to the old life.

Everything that @MaybeRob said above is spot on with me too. The changes are much more subtle the older you start. I started HRT at 56 and of the feminine physical changes I experienced from HRT, 80% of all my changes happened by my 3 year mark. The other 20% of the changes are continuing still.   The feminine results I still see change happening in include: reduced and thinning arm, leg, and body hair, body fat redistribution to my hips and butt. There may be still some minor facial fat redistribution but at this point it’s getting harder to tell. The facial fat redistribution started after year 1. Also, I’m still on Progesterone which was added into my HRT regimen after year 1. I believe that is responsible for increasing the size and darkening the color of my nipples to a much more feminine look. I was happy about those changes because my BA procedure alone did nothing to improve that aspect of my breasts. I will be getting off Progesterone at the end of this year now that it has done its job. I will be 6 years on HRT this September. I’m guessing I may have a year or two left before all the expected changes will have occurred.   Hope that helps a little, Susan R🌷

Trans Group Zoom Meeting Tomorrow!!   It’s almost time for another Zoom Meet-up and I’m sure it’ll be another entertaining time to get together with others from our community. As usual, these meeting can last up to 4 hours or longer. Come when you can and leave whenever you want. The start times are listed below.   If you need a Zoom Link, Message me as soon as possible as I will be gone early all day tomorrow (Sat.). I will PM you a link here before I leave for the day tomorrow. See you all next week.   Have Fun! Susan R🌷   From Zoom Host AllieJ: We had 15 at our last zoom of April, with great discussions as usual. When there are this many people attending, we have to be a little stricter with keeping our talking time short and watching for hands up so everybody can contribute. Best is to use the electronic ‘Raise Hand’ so it is more visible.    Trans Group Zoom Meeting Times: May 4, 2024 6:00 PM Pacific Time May 4, 2024 8:00 PM Central Time May 5, 2024 11:00 AM Australia/Melbourne

Wow, Birdie, I hope you get better soon.  At least the nurses figured out that you're not their standard patient.  Hopefully they treat you right.     I wish my husband would replace our stoves.  Of course we use propane, being way out of town, but they're old.  They are supposed to use a battery igniter, but one hasn't worked in years.  There's actually a hole sawed in the bottom plate of the oven where I stick a match.  And the other one had some sort of valve problem, and couldn't get the parts.  I was hoping for a new stove, but I got to watch in awe and dismay as my husband made a "something" with a piece cut from a roll of bulk automotive gasket material.  It works, no leaks.  But I swear we don't replace anything here until it is absolutely dead.  With my luck, that will be another 20 years on those stoves.      I don't complain much, but I wish I had some nicer kitchen things.  Nobody understands that if I'm serving dinner for 36 people, cooking on sheetmetal plates or using stuff from a 1980s junkyard is a bit....suboptimal.  When I mention it, I get lengthy apocalyptic tales of the deprived life in Argentina or Mexico or "In Soviet Union, stove cooks you..."  Thanks, GF.  Or maybe I'm just too spoiled?
