Hello, have not been on here recently. Been very busy lately with work and school. I just finished up my first quarter of school on Friday with a 4.0 GPA. First time I have ever gotten straight A's since I believe third grade. I think the "studying" I did last week helped out a bit. I invited a bunch of people over and made three different menus and then served them. Was a great time, even if I did literally use up every pot and pan in the kitchen. I start my next quarter in a week where I have Baking, American Regional, and Product ID. American Regional sounds like a lot of fun, my first day is; Spicy Crab Soup, Crab Puffs, Waldorf Salad, Buffalo Wings, Roast Duck with a Honey Garlic sauce, Roasted Potatoes, Pearl Onions, and Sauteed Green Beans. Which coming from the very basic two course menu of my cooking class last quarter is a nice step up.

I got to celebrate my birthday yesterday. Thanks to a friend destroying some comfort zones I bought some new clothing, even tried them on at the store. I then wore a new outfit to a group therapy session, was not as difficult as I was thinking it would be. Only hard part was keeping my skirt from blowing up too high while driving, it did provide a nice breeze though.

I have also been asked to be a leader for an upcoming chrysalis retreat, which is a three day live in church retreat. I am looking very forward to it, such a great community. I now get to look forward to a week of no school where I can sleep in, sadly for me that means sleeping past 9AM.

I spoke with my therapist and she is willing to write a letter to start my HRT. Depending on whether I can afford all my bills and HRT I might be starting that within the near future. I am hoping that my insurance plan will cover HRT. I found out that it covers the actual drugs just not sure if it will cover them for the reasons I would be getting them.

I will see about putting up some pictures of me and my food soon. Will also try to be a bit more active on here. Unfortunately the time that would be best for me, the hour or so between school and work, does not work. My school blocks this site on the claim that it is a porn site, I am going to try and get them to lift the block.

Hey, Honey.....

My insurance manual specifically says "No Sex Change"...pretty crude, eh?

But they cover my hormones ...I make a co-pay on them, but, they pick up the biggest part of it...

Why?

Well, My gender doctor codes my chart not as "HRT" which is a dead give away....

But, uses "Hormone imbalance".....That works!

Be sure to ask about that to your prescribing doctor!

Good luck, Baby!

HUGGS!

4.0 GPA WOW that's great, keep up the good work. ;) Ohh and all the food you mentioned made me hungry, what's the chance you could send some to me. :P I bet it will be just wonderful! ;)

So sorry I missed your birthday. Happy Birthday!!!

Hey Anthelia,

Congratulations and Happy Birthday!

As far as the medication goes HRT isn't that expensive if you go to the right Pharmacy - I went to CVS for my first month's and it cost $114.00 - Wal-Mart this month - less than $32.

It can be done.

Love ya,

Sally

My insurance is provided by my employer. I basically get reimbursed 80% of prescription drugs. To the best of my knowledge, they don't ask what the drugs are for.....so I might get away with that much

Wow, here I thought with a week off from school I would have more free time. I have actually been catching up a lot on my sleeping and basically waking up just in time to leave for work. Thanks all for the tips on HRT from an insurance standpoint, ill have to remember them when the time comes around.

@Sally: Is that price with or without insurance covering anything?

Sadly I found out that I don't actually have a 4.0, I got an A- in Safety and Sanitation which "only" puts me at a 3.93. Still that is much better then anything I have done in a long while. Thanks as well for the birthday wishes.

As for some of the food im making, here is one of my favorite dishes I made in school. Mainly because I just really love pork, and this has pork scallopini and bacon in the spinach.

I am going to work on getting some pictures of me on here in the near future. However I did come across a picture of me two years ago back when I had long hair.

I almost forgot last post, I came out to a couple more friends recently. Both of them are very accepting and are willing to help how they can. This is made very nice because one of them is a speech therapist and has agreed to work with me on my voice.

On a technical note, how can I create thumbnails for images that I upload to my gallery?

Hello, Lauren –

Glad things are going well! I’m a self-proclaimed “foodie”, and would love to know more about the Spicy Crab Soup!

As far as the HRT, I’m not there (yet), but keep us posted.

Hugs! - Kayleigh

*sigh* That's what I want to do more than anything (career-wise), achieve Chef status! I've cooked in restaurants, actually, managed the kitchen as head cook in a small vegetarian place in Halifax, for a while, and cooked in another fantastic restaurant located in a hotel(but not owned by the hotel) after that. I adore food(though you wouldn't know it to look at me, I'm rather small). Someday.....

I'm not too big, but just the same, I love food and experimenting!

I have about 70 cookbooks and have only recently got into baking! On a cold weekend (which we’ll have plenty of over the next few months here in New England, I love to bak ea few loaves of fresh bread and a stew or a New England clam chowder!

I also love heavy cream, but I know I shouldn’t use it!

Hehe, you should try it with double cream sometime :D Might have to cut out the flour (assuming your recipe calls for it, New England chowder is pretty thick as I recall), cuz double cream is sooooo thick on it's own, it's fantastic!

Woo, looks like my school decided to unblock Lauras. Not sure what caused them to unblock it but I won't be the one to complain.

Shilo, don't worry about hijacking the thread. I have no problem with it, especially when its about food. My current goal is to own my own restaurant. Not anything too fancy though. I would like a french style meals but not french style cooking.

I just got done with my first day of class today. Such a massive step up from the prior quarter. Our first day we made the four course meal I posted above, with the exception that instead of the crab soup we made a ginger bread cake. Still very delicious.

Sure is nice that the weather is starting to get less hot, nothing better than a good bowl of soup on a cold night. I will have to make a clam chowder at some point, never made one before. I also need to make a sweet potato soup I made last year for my moms birthday, man that was amazing. Tasted like a bisque but had no dairy.

I just did a rough sketch of a budget for myself. Going off that budget even increasing payments on loans and savings I would still have plenty of money for HRT. I sure do like work and school now. Monday, Tuesday, and Friday I get a free meal, typically a four course meal now. Every weekday my work pays for my dinner which is an all I can eat buffet which is very good. I basically cut my food bill in a little over half. Some other good news is that I might have enough extra money to be able to afford hair removal as well.

Hope everyone is having a great day.

It's something I'm just learning but I find I actually enjoy the 'craft' of it in addition to how it makes me look. Even after a fresh shave, I have a mild 5'clock shadow. For me, the primary use of makeup is to get rid of that. I'll start with the orange concealer over facial hair areas and a bit under my eyes. Liquid foundation over that and light concealer used judiciously over that (still dialing that part in). Then just a tad of powder to bring color back in certain places. There are a number of Youtube tutorials on that layering process.    I'll also pencil in my eyebrows a bit since they're blonde and otherwise not very visible. Sometimes I'll get adventurous and give mascara a try but that's a delicate skill and usually I mess it up. I don't particularly like lipstick, but just ordered a 'lip pencil' to experiment with. Hoping for a more subtle effect.

Sunday is my weekly ablution day - all of the parts that need occasional shaving get their required attention. The weather is rainy and cool today so after the ablutions and shower, I put on blue jeans, a gray t-shirt and a black front-zip hoodie along with gray sneakers.   And, I did put on make-up, not to impress anyone but just to feel as if I'm looking my best....as good as that can be given this woman is now 69 years old.

There are lots of us here willing to offer support, ideas, a shoulder or just a smile. Working with your therapist and finding your true self can be difficult process...but it will also be filled with wonder and joy as you discover that person who's been waiting inside you to be found.   Just know that you are not alone.

Thank you KayC!  I am just trying to keep breathing. I don't have a huge amount of time in my life for self exploration.  My job and responsibilities have me second guessing all my inner work.  I do have time off in the summer - coming up soon as I am a teacher.  Only a few workshops.  Looking forward ward to some introspection.     :) Mealaini

Yes, essentially. As Julia Serano says, they view trans outcomes as intrinsically worse than cis outcomes.

I used to but now its just lip gloss every now and then, in a subdued tone.

Yeah, a lot of times I don't really have anything to add to the conversation. There are some threads I seldom post on.
    • Ivy
I have seen some things about this.  As I remember it was not very trans-friendly. The people doing these things seem to minimize the positive aspects of transition, and maximize the potential problems. Basically, make it as difficult as possible (without outright banning it) to discourage anyone from doing it.

Good morning    woke up to some light rain this morning.  Maybe I should run out with a giant umbrella to cover the car.   Ha ha ha.     I’ve had really nice cars before but never something like this.     @KymmieL I hope you got to go on your ride. Back when I had my Harley we went out for a ride almost every weekend. We would head either SW down the Shenandoah Valley or Skyline Drive which danced along the tops of the Mountains or we would head west into West Virginia and just travel along until it was time to find our way home.   occasionally I wish I still had a bike but I usually quickly for get that. The only thing I ever wanted as a young person that I never had was a late 50s vette.

I admit to wearing make-up. Actually, I'll admit to enjoying wearing make-up. For me, it's been part of learning about myself as a woman and finding a style and look that reflects my personality.    Sometimes, it will just be a bit of mascara and a touch of lipstick. But, most often I wear foundation with setting powder, gel eyeliner, mascara, a little blush on my cheek line and lipstick. I also use an eyebrow pencil to darken my brows a bit.  Infrequently, I will add some eye shadow.   Most of my make-up is from Mary Kay although my lipsticks or from various manufacturers and eyeliners are mostly Maybelline. My wife purchases most of her make-up from Mary Kay and so we order together from our local representative. Of course, I don't have much brand experience but I'm happy with the Mary Kay products and find myself transitioning almost entirely to their line of make-up.

I did early on, out of necessity.  Regardless of how close you shave, beard shadow shows through.  I just used a bit of foundation, setting powder and blush.    I didn't use much eye makeup.  I started out with a bit of eye liner, but I thought it gave me a "trying too hard" look.  So I mostly didn't use any.   With covid and masking, I stopped using makeup altogether.  Why bother when no one can see your face and the mask smears the makeup anyway?   When restrictions were lifted, I didn't go back to wearing makeup.  My face feminized quite nicely over the first few years of HRT.  I'll never be pretty, but I look more female than male.  (Or I like to tell myself that anyway.)  With several years of electrolysis, and with what facial hair remains turning white, I don't have much beard shadow, so there is nothing to cover up.
