Going Public For Real

Hey Ladies,

Well,it is time for me to take that next step in educating the public.

Tonight at our local support group meeting, one of the professors from

a local university, stopped by to ask for any interested in public speaking

to make a presentation on Transgenders for one of her classes.I had just

mentioned that I had been thinking along these very lines to the president

of our group.Well here is my opportunity. On October 26th,myself and three

others, two ladies one gentleman, will be guests for an hour and a half in one

of her classes.Fielding questions, sharing life experiences and mingling with

the students. I just know my time is right to become more public if I am to

make an impact with the cisgendered. The professor is young and very cool,

told me she can't wait for us to be there, her students are nice and very open,

so it should be a good experience for all involved. And I am looking forward to

this new opportunity to expand young minds.Well here I go,on to the next phase

of my journey.(smile)

Hugs To All,

Angelique

That's wonderful!!!

I was kind of having thoughts along those lines myself yesterday. Definitely not ready to do so yet, but it's something to aspire to.

Proud of you Angie!

Well done Angie!

We need people like you out there educating society on transgender issues as we all know that ignorance sometimes breeds fear.

Good luck with your talk and please let us know how it went.

I'm one of those avid public speakers, and it will be a very rewarding experience for you. :) Just remember, if you get nervous, just picture them all in their underwear! :D My biggest piece of serious advice is not to "read from a script". Make bullets, short 3 or 4 word notes to yourself, and just speak about them on the fly. Let the discussion take you where it wants to go, don't try to force it there.

Good luck!!

Kia Ora Angie,

 Have you ever thought about public speaking as a job??? If this professor and her class like your approach it's possible they will let others who have an 'academic interest' know and "Bobbie's your aunty" you end up travelling around the US university circuit education cisgender students of psychology on the issues facing some trans-people...

You never know what lies beyond....

The bright side is no matter what this talk will surely booooooooossssssssst your confidence[if that's at all possible-judging by whats been happening in your life lately, your confidence is well and truely overflowing]

Great news BTW you're a great role model...

Angie hon,

That is just awesome!!! Thank you for all of your work!!!

I think it is so cool that the teacher wants to educate her students. Additionally, I think that it is so wonderful that you and the others are willing to share your selves.

I am sure that everything will go very well for you!!

Thank you so much!!!

Angelique, that is wonderful news. If you are have as good in person as you are in these forums, then

you will be a smash hit!

I don't know if you have experience in public speaking, but if not, Liz's tips are excellent. You have the

advantages of having an extremely interesting topic, intimate personal knowledge of it, and an innate

ability to relate to people.

Teaching can be an exhilarating experience, especially when the topic is one you are excited about yourself.

I envy your opportunity. Good luck!

I bow to you, Angelique.

This may be a rewarding experience for you; but it will also improve the knowledge of these students that will be listening to you. To top it up, you might be moving the whole transgendered community another small step towards being fully understood and accepted by society.

Congratulations for the opportunity; and thank you for your contribution to the long and hard struggle against the ignorance that leads society to fear and then to hate.

Regards,

Ethain

I came up with a new strategy.  Replace the good 2 year old car we bought used with something that suits me. New or used but has to suit me this time and I’ll hang on to the old ford as long as it starts and runs for going to work when wife needs @ car.  Oh and yes she could drive the ford too, she’s done it many times in the past.  Movable pedals and seat combine to get here where she needs to be.  Now I just have to sell her on that idea.     now starts the search all over again but I can double my top range!

Sup singly, a superintendent prevented a student within the transgender community from changing current name, to the new name in which the student identifies with, I don't know how far back this story goes, but if you Google it under Oklahoma along with "student name change" the article should pop up. I'm not transgender, but I can relate to the process of legally getting a name change done, it's a lot of paperwork from court, a lot of traveling, and expenses depending on the laws from each state.

No one seemed to pay attention to me other than a young woman who complimented me on my skirt and an older gentleman who smiled at me as we passed each other.

Wow, I guess it’s the dat to be in trouble.  I’ve been hit twice by the ASM today and it’s my day off.  Why didn’t you, followed latter with a where is the.  Made me realize that I do t want to continue working long enough to pay for it. I guess I’ll just to have to stick with my 20 year old car for now.   I suppose sooner or later only one of us won’t be able to drive anymore.  Since I am older you might think it would be me but at this time i am the one that does all the driving except when she goes to church or the store when I’m at work.  She hasn’t driven anywhere since February and hasn’t driven more than 10 miles in perhaps a year.  Yet the “good” car was purchased for her not for me because she couldn’t drive the Jeep which we bought strictly for her because she wanted it.  But it turned out I was the one that really liked it.  Can’t win.

Had one like that one time that would bite you on occasion.  Got rid of that thing quickly.

Good morning :)   I have coffee today, but the cup keeps leaking (I guess the cap isn't able to fully seal or something), so I keep having to wipe up the sides lol   Almost finished all my missing work for school, which means if I do a bit more work, I should be out of trouble with my parents (not even that bad of trouble compared to when I was younger, more just an annoyance haha)
