hi all. i was wondering if tightening the vocal chords actually help with having a feminine voice. my is kinda low and it is really hard to even get a higher pitch or else my voice will crack like a lier under the spotlight. (attempt at a joke)

There is surgery available for the MTF voice...but, the things that I've read make it seem to be iffy at best and can cause you to lose your voice altogether!

One wouldn't want that!

You can raise your voice a little at a time with practice but the surgeries are not all that successful and as Donna Jean has told you very risky.

I have read numerous articles that indicate that there is very little change with the surgeries.

I would opt for a long term practice schedule.

Love ya,

Sally

I *have* heard audio clips of before and after surgery, and the ones I heard were amazing, but I also understand that this is not the norm and like the ladies have already said, it is risky.

On the flip side, I've read blogs of people who've had to have the surgery multiple times before there was any change at all.

I'm actually considering the same thing right now. Dr. Thomas in Portland Oregon has done some amazing things with past patients. The thing is though it's very expensive. The procedure costs $7425 and you need to be able to stay a week in the area and have someone with you to keep an eye on you to make sure you are doing ok unless you want to stay in the hospital the entire time, which would cost a HUGE amount of money. You are supposed to rest your voice and not use it at all for two weeks and then very lightly as needed a week after that to give the voice box time to heal. Otherwise you risk breaking the stitches and reverting back.

Here's a quick link to one of the results. http://www.voicedoctor.net/media/cases/pit...emLarTH_75.html

well, i would still be wary of it since i don't like knives being pointed at me, but my voice is kinda low. i would say like a low e, so it is very hard to get a feminine inflection and tone, plus, i get discouraged really easily. i have to have someone there offering support constantly or else i tend to give up. :(

Please don't take the risk. The human vocal tract is an amazing machine that can be trained to create a virtually limitless range of sounds. I started with a deep baratone and in 3 months was able to develop a pleasing female voice that passes well live and over the phone. Please consider spending some dedicated time working with the free vocal feminization courses before you elect any kind of surgery.

i've also been singing for many years... the highest my voice can go without going into falsetto is maybe a high soprano or llow alto. plus, i can't use a full key with either (i can't do the do re mi thing in soprano or alto)

like i said, i'm afraid of knives so i wouldn't do it. i'm not trying to be pig headed, i created this thread with more curiosity than advice on when and how to get sliced up.

Thanks Davie! And don’t worry, I didn’t take it that way. It’s just such a big topic I can only hope to tackle it one bit at a time.

This is not uncommon.  I started out going to the therapist in androgynous clothing: from the women's department, but plausibly masculine.  What made it easier was when I started going to a trans peer support group.  Most of the people there were presenting fully feminine, so I looked out of place in my androgynous clothing.  The peer pressure made it easier to dress in skirts.   I started out changing in a gender-neutral bathroom near the meeting room.  But I soon started wearing skirts in the car to and from the meetings.   Yes, it was nerve-wracking at first, but I soon realized that no one was looking and no one cared.    You can do this.

In my last session my therapist is starting to suggest that I need to start exploring my gender identity in a more tangible way through wearing feminine clothing at least during sessions.  I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around her seeing me actually en femme.   I love and trust her, but the thought of being visibly feminine is scaring (and thrilling) me.  Is this a common thing in gender therapy?  How do I get past the fear?  More importantly, what should I wear?

USA doctors denounce Cass Report, support trans folks.  The Endocrine Society And American Academy Of Pediatrics Respond To Cass, Reject Bans. I felt the urge to date and felt just like a teenager again. I have recorded my journal titled Ashley's Life From Start to Present. I was very moody and agitated and happy. I think it was my body's way of being in shock. After about two months it got better. Remember that you aren't the only one transitioning because your wife is too. Consider yourself lucky because I lost mine because of it and so have many others. Just enjoy the ride.

I'm sorry for asking so many questions about your situation. I'm in your camp and believe you should be able to be whoever you feel you need to be. I guess it the Union Shop Stewart coming out in me. I want you to be treated fairly as well as respectably. You're human, you're a client of theirs. Especially if you're paying money to be there.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Views, terminology, and aspects of how events came to be....aren't those directly related to the news item?  If not, I'm rather confused.

Second warning, this has gotten far and apart from the NEWS item that it started out with and is becoming a flat out battleground over political leanings and terminology.
