Ok so a wierd situation happened today. 2-3 times a week my male friend and i get togeather to study (we STILL haven't taken our A+ certification test). Anyway, i was at his house this morning, and after we'd been studying for a few hours we got on the discussion of his mom (whom he takes care of) and how much meds she's on. Which got me to thinking, i was unsure if i had taken mine this morning as I take Spiro and Estrodiol in the morning (doc upped my estro), and i was thinking out loud about it. He asked me what i was on, and i thought in my head "here we go" how do i put this? Anyway, he pestered me a little and asked me if I was on antidepressants or something, and i told him not for a LONG time LOL. (truth) So i just told him...spiro and estrodiol. He looked at me and said "hmm i don't know those" (as he figured with all the stuff his mom is on that he would have heard of at least one). So, I told him what they do, and he looked at me with a confused look. So, I came out and told him i was a transitioning MtF transexual. And he said "OHHHH!" We chatted for a while about how long I had know, he asked me if it was expensive (I said VERY).

Needless to say this was a VERY nerve racking moment as i was unsure how'd he'd take it. He said it was cool with him, he'd never do it, but he understood that if it was what i needed to do then he was happy for me. I am still concerned how he will treat me tomorrow and from here on out, but he seems ok with it. He did joke with me a little and said "what i am going to do takes alot of testicles". LMAO

Other than my wife, he was the first person i came out to, now i think January I will see my folks for the first time in over a year, i think by them they will suspect something. I guess they are next on the list... oh GAWD!

LOL...now you have a confidant...a partner in crime....LOL

I'll bet you that this will work out just fine for you...

I'll tell you something...

Few weeks back I came out to a friend that I hadn't seen in 23 years...we e-mail and send christmas cards..

But he said that he'd be there for me to the end!

I think that you may have a friend like that, too...

Honey...let me know how it goes over the next few days...this could be a wonderful thing for you!

BIGG HUGGS!

Great news :D

I'm happy to hear that your friend is so supportive of you.

It's not often that you can find people that are so open minded and caring.

He sounds like a keeper to me.

I hope your parents take the news as well as your friend. ;)

Melanie i am so happy for you, your friend sounds like mine when i told her in January, although she did go thru a couple weeks after being a little distant with me, i figured it was her coming to terms with what i told her and maybe doing some research on her own, we are great friends again.

Melanie, that is awesome good news! I am very happy things turned out well.

It seems that so often something happens that's totally unplanned, but works out

perfectly. Fate, karma, whatever you want to call it, it does seem to happen to

certain people. You certainly seem to have some of that good stuff! :)

How about sharing it with all of us?

I hope your karma continues to bode well for you.

Ok, I know this wasn't the point of your topic, but I wanted to mention this. It's possible they have since changed the exam, but when I took it, I was absolutely shocked at the antiquity of the test material. Dot matrix printers? Holy....Seriously, freshen up on as much of the older systems technology as you can, most of what was on my test was from windows nt period and back. That was like 7 years ago though, so I'm HOPING they've updated since.

Just a warning, be prepared!

As to the main topic, sounds like a positive experience so far :) Hopefully he'll continue with that attitude as it sinks in.

That is wonderful news Melanie! I wouldn't worry about how he will react the next day. He sounds like a good friend that is understanding.

LMAO i know! Well, my friend actually bought a bank of test questions from CompTIAA and he was told from a rep that the 601 will be the bank of questions all tests are done from til Jan 1st so i think we're good. But ya when i was in school we took practice exams and there was a lot of old stuff... and btw there are STILL dot matrix questions (well one or two in the printer section)

I actually haven't seen him since i told him as i got sick, and recently his mom's friend committed suicide, so he's been dealing with that while i get over whatever it is i have. Hopefully we'll get back to practicing tomorrow. Thanks for all the kind and supportive comments.

That's really not as bad as you think. The worst thing that'll happen is that 1) he's going to ignore the situation until he can't possibly ignore it any longer (which, since you're already on hormones won't be too far off) or 2) he'll crack the occasional "crossdresser" joke at you. (I use that word because that's basically the word most of the jokes use. Not saying it's right, just true) Neither of which are truly bad things.

I know some of you might not like it if your friend started joking about a condition as serious as transgenderism, but having a dad who grew up in a working class family and who's family holds true to their roots, one of the quickest things I learned was that you had to be able to laugh at how bad your life is, because if you don't, someone will. (Why let everyone ELSE have all the fun at your expense? You're entitled to a piece of it, too. )

Good for you!

hi vidanjali !! i know exactly what you mean, i do have a few trans and otherwise queer friends nearby me but currently i present as 'cis' for obvious reasons so it's not all that easy for me to reach out and find that kind of community (though i do love my irls!!)   but yeah, i get this weird paranoia that if i come out to too many people it'll end up tracing back to my folks (not everyone knows my family is homophobic and being outed is a big fear of mine)   but im sooo happy to know that that feeling was just dysphoria !! i thought i was going crazy for a minute !!.   thanks so much for welcoming me, and you have a great day too !!

hi susan!! thats very much how i feel !! i have no issue explaining my gender or educating other people on transness but it feels like im talking to a brick wall of misinformation even if they are well-meaning and accepting people ! but thank you anyways for welcoming me here !!

This is a fairly long video by Philosophy Tube,  (Abigail Thorne)  Discussing some of Judith Buttler's work and related stuff.   I wasn't sure where to post it, so if there is a better place, move it.

I have a fantastic therapist. She is so caring she has helped me open up so much. Unfortunately, She is ending her internship. Do to a hiring freeze at the VA she isn't going just go right into a position there.  My Endo is out of the Denver VA hospital. I haven't talked with her in probably 2 yrs. I am  looking to transfer providers and get back to seeing a GYN at the Cheyenne VA.

Shopping at the mall today and helping out at Torrid I excused myself to the restroom. The manager told me the restroom at JC Penny was much closer (I normally use the family restroom in the food court).   Upon arrival I discovered that JC Penny doesn't have a family restroom, it's either or.   The men's room was occupied with customers, and me going in with large breasts, long hair, and makeup was going to cause a stir, so I opted for the woman's room instead. I was the only one in the woman's room.    Texas state law does state that your must use the restroom that matches your chromosomes, and it's a misdemeanor to not do so, but it seemed to be the best choice (I really needed to go!)

I had some guy grab my butt on the ship.  I don't know how "real" it was, but I did not enjoy that at all.  Also did not enjoy the hazing I saw other people going through.  One person can only do so much to stop that when there are 10 people doing it.

I pulled this out of a stack of old military mementos yesterday.  I guess I didn't realize how cool this one was because I did so much of this kind of thing back then.

This internet video thing is pretty amazing.  I'd call it Zoom, but there are other platforms out there.  I prefer Zoom over Teams because Zoom puts me and everyone else in the same picture.  I like seeing the whole group in one shot.  Teams of course is about having so many people that you can't get them in the shot, or is it?   Just saying that I have never met any of my counselors in person.  Doctors, of course I have and I am lucky there.  They are 3.5 miles from my house as is the main transgender surgery place in town.  I've been doing virtual visits with the medical doctors lately though.  It feels like once I became steady state, they don't need to interact with me physically that much.  I have enjoyed going into their office in my nice clothing.
