Time To Get A Properly Fitting Bra.

  1. OK, my roommate and her daughter have gotten onto me for weeks now about how my girls are getting to big to be running around bra-less. I have plenty of them, but they are all for silicon enhancers and none actually fit me properly. So I was debating on getting professionally fitted. I was in girl-mode at the mall shopping when I passed by Victoria's Secret. Many of my girlfriends rave about the quality of their bras. So I went in and looked around for a few minutes. A salesgirl came up and asked if I needed help and asked if I knew what size I was. I said "38 A... I think". She took me t the back, gave me several ones to try on and said that they only have 36 B, and the 38 band size they have start at 38 C. So I tried some on, and found one that seemed to fit well enough and gave me some good cleavage. The sales staff were nice, called me ma'am and made me feel comfortable. However, I think I should have gone somewhere else because while the bra I got seemed comfortable enough in the dressing-room, it needs constant adjustment and just doesn't feel right.

I came home and let her see my purchase and her advice was "Take it back and get fitted somewhere else because their size selections are limited." So I am off to Nordstrams in a little while and I hope I am not having one of those anxiety issues when i get there. I really need two specific bras and need some help getting the right ones. One for guy mode to minimize them while providing support (it hurts to jog without a bra) and another that makes them look a little bigger and fuller. They both need to fit properly and I heard they have great fitters. I don't however have any non-padded bras to wear to get fitted but I think my adhesive Nu-Bra should work since it doesn't really add much to the size but instead just squeezes them together a little. I measured myself and I think i am a 38 B (which is a good surprise to me). My roomy said to go get fitted anyway. She said that way I will get exactly what I want and need that way and it will make me feel girlie and accepted from the whole fitting experience.

So I am off to the mall after I get cleaned up adn get my face on. Wish me luck.

Chrissy.....

I liked that.....

You are going to get fitted...I'd like to know how it goes, there's no reason that you shouldn't be pampered!

I understand that a properly fitted bra is more important than just the look, too....

Comfort! That's a prime consideration!

So, when you get back from the mall, I expect to have a complete post on the experience......OK?

Good!

HUGGS!

Thanks you very much. Sadly, I haven't pulled the trigger yet on full-time, however it is getting close. I am starting to have issues passing in either gender at the moment. I have recently started to look more like a boyish girl and less like a girlie-boy. It is progress. I so need to get my voice going. It isn't masculine, but it is still sounded more like a femme gay guy right now. I think once I get the voice down, I am going to do the switch. I rarely get called sir anymore! I love that. Usually I get called sweety or honey. Guys generally just avoid using gender specific pronouns with me entirely, or sometimes call me hon.

Donna, I will give you a full report tomorrow once I get back from my boyfriends house in the morning. I am so excited. I guess I am kinda looking at it as a right of passage almost. Is that wired or what? If it is, then call me weird.

hugz all,

Chrissy

I, too, would like to know how this goes as I've been thinking about getting a professional fitting at Lane Bryant but I'm too scared/chicken to ask.

For a fitting,

You can go to any Bealls,Dillards, or Sears in the lingerie department.

But it is really up to the girl and where she is going wether she goes braless

or not. There are some tops that just look good without, but some you have to

wear one to fit in with the rest of the girls.Women are taught from an early age

modesty, cover those babies up.I am a B with rather prominant nips you can see

real well, and after a lifetime of none,am proud of what is on my chest. But,once

again,it all depends on where you are going, what you are wearing and the company

you are keeping.Women can be quite catty.

Well, I keep hearing that the journey is like becoming an adolescent girl. I'm envious that you had to be told "the girls are too big now to go without a bra".

I'd bet nearly every adolescent girl hears that same thing!

Girl, you've made another small step towards the real you.

I'm so happy for you. Congratulations.

Now, keep those girls covered up!

Thanks for the compliments and encouragements.

OK, so here is how it went. I was looking around for something with good cleavage enhancement. A sales associate came up and asked if I needed help. I said yes and explained what I was looking for. She done a double take (and no longer called me ma'am though out the rest of our interactions). She asked what size I normally wear and I said I didn't know this was my first bra. She asked me to remove my coat and when I did she gave me a good look from a couple angles and said she would give me a few sizes to try on. So she got some 34 and 36 Bs and took me to the dressing room. She told me what to look for when I try them on and said if I had any questions or need another size to just ask. So I tried them on and she made a very accurate guess because they all fit me, but some better than others. I ended up not getting one because 1) the ones she had me try on were $70 2) when I said I was looking for something a little cheaper she said I was going to have to pay that much there for what I want and suggested a couple other stores. 3) I could tell she was uncomfortable dealing with me

So my take on all this is that Nordstroms probably has a trans-friendly store policy, but the particular sales associate I had was uncomfortable conversing with and helping a t-girl. I could tell she had some issues with me but was trying not to let them show. She also never called me ma'am after she made me. So, there was my experience there

I ended up going to a discount mall where they have a Haynes/Bali/Playtex store. The woman called me ma'am even after she made me. She measured me and was super nice and helpful. She brought me some other selections to check out while I was trying them on and giving her feedback on the fit. After I selected some pretty and functional bras, she tried hard to get me to check out their matching panties and check out their other items. I ended up buying three perfectly fitting cleavage enhancing bras for $45.

I still need to get a good minimizer though. The ones they had at the store showed through my clothing too much. I don't see the purpose of getting a minimizer that say's "Hey look! I have a bra on." She suggested I go to a sporting goods store and get a tight elastic tank-top to wear as an undershirt. That way even if it shows, it just looks like an undershirt when I am in guy-mode.

The rest of my shopping experience was pretty uneventful. No one made me that I know of until I spoke, and everyone was polite and helpful. It was a good day.

Now I need to get serious about my voice training.

OK, I was at another mall (I don't usually do this much shopping but I need female winter clothing that I lacked) and was looking for sweaters and other warm feminine attire. I found a few things but had a little time to kill before my boyfriend was done watching his son's football game. So I went into Nordstom, but a different one from last time. I was checking out the clearance rack for a cute bra (all the ones I have are bland). I find one and out of nowhere pops a sales associate. The very pleasant experience follows.

"Can I help you ma'am?"

"I am looking for my first bra"

"Your first bra EVER?"

"Yes, I am a transsexual.. and one day I am sitting in the living room and my roommate and her daughter tell me 'Girl, you need a bra."

"Girl,. you DO need a bra. Follow me and I will fit you for one."

So she takes me in the dressing-room and has me remove my shirt (I wore my adhesive NU-Bra). She reassures me its OK (I got a little nervous) and I comply. She takes my measurements and gets me a selection of items. She was nice, called me Chrissy and treated me like any other woman. I felt so pampered. She set the straps and made sure it looked right to her. She also told me the proper way to put a bra on (there is more to it than I knew). She went over what maeks a good fit. She went over proper washing of bras. It was an all-round educational experience. I even found a bra that was just what I wanted for under $40.

OK, I lied about not knowing my size, but I like being pampered a little and I kinda wanted a second opinion. I just cant believe I am a full B. They still look like an A to me.

Anyway, if you get fitted at Nordtrom, be prepared. The no-shirt measuring caught me off-guard. It was well worth the moment of awkwardness though. Like I said, she was very sweet, helpful and informative. She made me feel like a beautiful woman. Of course that is her job, but still.

OK, enough bra shopping for several months... unless they go through another rapid growth spurt.

I have to say, even though I don't entirely pass, it has been a long time since I had a bad experience while shopping that is noteworthy. Indiana has come a long way in the past few years.

I do believe that to get a proper measurement you have to take your shirt off but your last 2 store experiences sound great! I'm glad the other Nordstrom lady was really nice to you. That made me smile. :)

Chrissy,

Thanks for sharing that. I can hardly wait until that day comes for me....

I have an UnderArmor elastic tee shirt. If I pull them up when I have it on, I can make them stick out, if I pull it down, I can make them lay more flat and minimize their appearance and prevent them from jiggling. I haven't worn it while running or jogging, so I don't know if everything stays that way or not. It might serve your purpose if you don't find anything else.

Me, too.

Chrissy---so pleased your bra oddesy turned out so well and that in the end you found a helpful salesgirl to help you. I can't think of anything more important than having a bra that is both flattering and comfy to wear----maybe because our breasts are the most sensitive parts of our bodies and are such an important symbol (and joy) of our womanhood. When my breasts got too big to hide I decided rather than to hide them I would flaunt them :) I was lucky when I chose my first bra. I still go bra-less some of the time when I am out and about but it is only because I love the way my breasts feel bouncing and jiggling when I walk.

Hi Sally, okay I'll head on over to your post and check out your makeup techniques.

Hey all,   It's been a while, but I blogged a whole series on makeup.  It's an eight-part series where I talk about my techniques.   Here is the link to Part 1:       Hopefully the blog series is helpful.

Oh, I can relate to that one Vicky, leaving lipstick in hot weather  I've lost count how many times I had to purchase new purses.

Thanks for the replies, as an admin from my own group I understand the same rules, agreed.

I do spoken word acting, and give Trans 101 talks and other public speaking.  I wear make-up for those occasions.  Sephora is easy for me to get to, and has a foundation that does a good job for me and the sales folks there are Trans Friendly.  Their eye shadow pallets are also fun to use. Another source of my foundation is Ulta which carries Dermablend that does a consistent job of my lower face and chin.   I just use good old Revlon lipsticks because I ruin them by leaving my purse in the hot car too often.

I'm not interested in makeup, jewelry or nice clothes or girly stuff.  It's made me wonder at times.   It saves some money.  If I wore a skirt it would likely  be denim.  I thought about a woman's skirt suit but nah.   Neither of my sisters are into that stuff either.  One likes peasant chic (still a 60s flower girl)  and the other - the only time she has ever worn a dress was at her wedding.  Jeans at all other times.   Jeans and t shirt here.  Content being a girl.  Weirdo. Weirda? Never mind.

@Ladypcnj Before posting links to other group's websites, PM one of the Staff (preferably an Admin) and have them check that site out.   We have specific rules here regarding age appropriateness and would need to know that the other site is in line with those rules.  We do have members here between 13 and 18 and other sites need to be safe for that age range, legally and otherwise.  Also, we are not a dating or pick-up site, not do we allow people selling things to advertise here.  As I said clear the link with a moderator or admin before posting it.  Mod's and admins do check out posts and if we find problem links we will remove them and notify the OP of a rules violation.  Go to https://www.transgenderpulse.com/community-rules to understand where we are.

I raise my hand in the group, I have a question and a suggestion... is it allowed to share other new lgbtq+ website links here?
    • Ladypcnj
Yeah, ELF is a good brand, another brand is Revlon ColorStay last 24 hours.

I really don't think that's a good idea. The unity of the LGB and T community is historic and has been central for both groups rights. And the vast majority of people advocating for splitting the two are transphobic LGB's who are broadly condemned by the community anyway.
