Ok, absolute MUST SEE! And yes, it's another indy flick. :P And, ironically enough, it's star is another of the main characters from Almost famous...which is another great flick, by the way.

Stage Beauty - If you have not seen this film...omgod, please do. Billy Crudup stars as a male(?) actor who played female roles during a period when it was illegal for women to act. During the film, that law was changed, and it became illegal for male actors to play female roles, which brings his world crashing down around him, and you kinda realize it was more than just acting for him (her?). It never comes right out and says he's trans, but ya, you know...

Co-starring is Claire Danes, not one of my favorite actresses, but she fit this movie well, I think.

Fabulous film, one of my all time favorites

Hummmmm

This one slipped under the radar - I will look for it!

TANKS ALOT (General Patton)

Yeah, it never really got a lot of media attention. We have a theater(ok, 2 of them) that do a lot of indy stuff, in this case I believe one of the theaters was privately rented in order to show this film. I lucked out and had the day off and someone suggested it to me, so I checked it out. After seeing it, I got the movie as soon as it was available :)

Thank you so much for that tip!

Interesting side note, James Cagney - the ultimate tough guy started his career in Vaudeville as a dancer and sometimes as a chorus girl.

The theater is full of cross dressing and some of the greatest have actually been trans not just doing it for the work but at so many times in history it would have ended their careers if they had said that they were more comfortable as a woman and probably still would.

I'll try to find that one, thanks again.

Love ya,

Sally

Yeah, actually, in "Stardust" Robert DeNiro plays a crossdressing pirate named Captain Shakespeare. His role was what made the movie, in my opinion. This comes off as being a kids movie, but I really loved it and it's another one I'd recommend.

Is it fairly new?

Not sure if you mean Stage Beauty or Stardust. Stage Beauty is from 2004 and Stardust 2007. So neither is particularly new.

Both are worth a look though :)
