Estradiol/synthetic Estrogen Vs. Horse Estrogen/conjugate

Hello ladies,

I hope you don't mind me asking, but can someone tell me if estradiol tablets (no injections) are still going to do the "trick" of helping my friend transition? I'm asking on behalf of a very good friend of mine who has no internet access at this time. She has been having a very rough go of things lately. She has been off HRT for over six months now because she was getting them from the VA and the VA cut her off. (I don't want to say which one because I must protect her location). Finally, she found a doctor who prescribed her estradiol tablets in strength once a day. I KNOW that no one here can dispense medical advice. I'm only asking if anyone here has had this type of prescription and if it helps. She used to be on estradiol valerate? injections 1x weekly and taking tablets, but was abruptly cut off when she was transferred to a different doctor (who doesn't believe transexuals need HRT, only therapy) and because of this, she has been unable to get back onto HRT. It seems to me like she is getting at least some rather than none for now which has to be better than nothing, but it's been a long frustrating road. She wants to know if the stuff she is on now is inferior to the horse estrogen/conjugated form of estrogen that she used to be on. Can anyone help me with an answer to this? I have to add that she is temporarily out of better options right now because she is homeless and living in a domestic violence shelter at this time.....another story, I'll spare that here. I think she just wants to know if she's finally back "on" with her transition, or if she needs to keep pushing for more? Thanks so much for any help. - S.

I'm afraid that we're not qualified medically to say which one is preferrable over the other. Your friend should see a different doctor if the one she has now isn't doing anything for her. Only a doctor can give her the correct medical advice. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Hi Mary Ellen,

I know you are not qualified to give any medical advice. I was only asking for an opinion and wanted to know if any of you who have done research on HRT from a MTF point of view had any knowledge concerning the difference of estradiol, a synthetic hormone compared to estrogen conjugate which is derived from horses urine. Was that an unsuitable question? I know nothing concerning HRT for MTF as I myself am FTM and have no personal interest in estrogen as I would willingly give most (my body as any natural bio-male needs at least a little), of it to you and others. So, I am not trying to be inappropriate with my question, but surely you ladies must have some experience as to what works better versus what does not so I can advise my friend what to "shoot for"? It is still very difficult for some trans- people of either type to get hormones because so many doctors still remain so opposed to this for various reasons. Surely you are aware of this. There are still many hurdles to jump. Don't we all get a little tired of having to jump just to get the same medical access many others can get at the drop of a hat without judgment? I'm not trying to replace her doctor with my question. But I do want to arm her with as much info as I can because apparently so many doctors out there still need to be educated and that is obvious even here in this forum! - Thanks, S.

We have very strict rules here that we don't discuss any drugs, legal or not. I'm surprised that your initial post was allowed. What Mary Ellen was trying to tell you (although I can't speak for her) is that we can't go there and that's that.

I've done a lot of research on this whole issue, as I wanted to understand what I was getting myself into as a process of sorting things out in my brain.

If you google search using such words as "premarin, health effects" or mtf hormone therapy or irreversible effects mtf hormone therapy, types of estrogen male to female, and other such search words you'll eventually find some actual medical sites that may give you what you need. I found a lot and have read a lot and there's a lot of good information out there if you're choosy about the sources.

After you read a hundred pages or so, you may come to the conclusion that what the doctor has prescribed is the best thing for her to be taking.

I certainly would never discuss it here, as it's against the rules and I hope this wraps up this thread, as we can't talk about it. Whether this even gets approved or not, we'll find out.

I wish you the best in your search and regret that we can't fulfill your request.

Hey all

Time to wrap this up.

This thing with medication or hormones can not be discussed, It is a legal matter.

Anyone that reads anything that is written here at Laura's and tries it with ill effects can take legal actions against this site.

We help far to many people to something happen that would shut down the site.

I'm sure that no one would like that to happen.

So please ask your doctor for that information.

Sometimes we are faced with situations where the only response possible is grief.  Things will never be as we want them; people die, we lose things we cherish, we do not obtain what we earnestly desire.  I see some of those situations here; there are tools available to help you through the grieving process.  It's not easy.

I would be happy to just have 4 disabilities. I take 27 different medications and it does little. I tried working when I got out of the military but couldn't maintain one. I have a lot of mental disorders myself. It would be neat to learn about each other's background. I do understand just wanting to be normal. My job is a stay-at-home parent which is exactly tougher than a regular job especially being a single parent.

It is 5 posts for PM's from Members, but you can receive and respond to PM's from Moderators or Administrators before then.  This one is post #3 for you.

Rich as in happy? Far from it. I'm happy about my kids but I shouldn't put all my happiness on them. I take care of myself and do the best I can. I'm happy and content that I have a house and car but nothing that can't be taken away from me like in an instant. I completely lack motivation and don't even want to do my walks anymore. I can't get a membership somewhere because I have kids that are mostly with me. I put myself out there for hoping something to come up and be good, but it's has always been like getting hit in the back of the head.

Oh I'm wearing a blessed girl t shirt and blue capris. Nothing special today. It was just doing nothing day and feel guilty about it.

Hi, I don't think I have enough posts to PM yet I don't think (I think it's 5?). I'm poor myself since I can't work, but my parents are luckily helping me get surgery covered by insurance since I am still on their insurance and they have flexible spending each year. I live far away from them, halfway across the country, but I'm glad I have their support.   On the day to day... having a disability sucks. I wish I could just work like everyone else and have a normal life, but my mental disorders prevent me from doing most things.   I'm glad someone else understands at least.

Very pretty y'all. 4" heels is the max I can handle and not for long period of time. I don't see how women wear 5" and above. I love my feet. I sure don't want to punish them.

Well just been doing a lot of self reflection and a lot of gender dysphoria that has caused me to break down. The realization has been that I'm a trial period for men and women don't even consider me. It's getting dim. I have put myself out there by force even when I didn't want to. I have one friend but still haven't seen her IRL yet. We talk on Sundays and it's always me that starts it. Another person only talks to me when they want something. It's never been hey how are you doing. It's almost a month to my birthday and it's all just my mom, sister, nephew that are coming. So much for a 40th birthday party. I hate these posts. I want to be optimistic, positive and cheerful but I haven't seen anything go my way. I'm making it by the skin of my teeth. I wished I could just go into a coma for a year or just not wake up.

Sorry I have been absent a lot but I do read your posts though.

@Michelle_S lol it took a year to get that many. It's nice to have a large number but having the thoughts of helping someone far outweigh the number of posts. I have been absent a lot lately. Back at it tomorrow though lol.

I understand. I have the opposite problem. I'm really tall, my feet are size 13, I don't have any curves mostly but I do have breasts so at least I got that but I get stared at. I have tried dating to men I'm just a trial period and none of the women want to date me as a trans woman so I'm just stuck being single. I do have one friend and that's it. I'm right there with you about not being able to work. I haven't been able to come up with the money for any surgeries. I have a wealthy dream and disability IRL. If you want I can chat with you.

Not sure I could handle 4" heels.  I do have some 2" ankle boots though.
