Heard A Disturbing Program Today

I listened to a program on the internet talking about the popularity of Sarah Palin. When the people who like were asked what she stands for, the respondents were vague in their answers. When asked about what Palin would do on policies such as foreign policy, the respondents didn't have a clue. It's really sad that these people judged their love of Palin on peripheral qualities rather anything concrete or tangible.

This parallels what most people understand about ENDA, gay marriage, and transgender identity. Political correctness is the rule of the day rather than critical thinking. What concerns me is that if, for example, the country was taken over by some power that do not have our interests at heart most people would be shocked and appalled that it happened.

This post isn't about any political or religious affiliations. It's about how gullible people can be to unscrupulous politicians and leaders because they rather be told what to do rather than investigate what they are being sold. What's sadder is that I run into this every day and from people of all walks of life.

I make it a point to research what I read. After listening to this program today I'm making a more concerted effort to make sure the information is correct and accurate. Too many people are affected by the many lies, inaccuracies and lack of knowledge that's being pawned as fact. We transgender people have had some many lies told about us. It's about time that we go on the offensive and end all this nonsense.

Gennee,

I don't know what program you are talking about but, I am more concerned about the man in the White House today. Does anyone know what he stands for? And if you do are you for what he is for. The last election was probably the worst choices for President ever. Sarah Palin is in charge of nothing right now so who cares what she thinks about foriegn policy. The President's foriegn policy is the same as Bush's for the most part. He has not kept any of his promisses about the war and now he is telling the enemy when we plan to leave Afganistan. Our political system is a joke and they are righting health care rules for a plan that none of them will ever have to use because they have aleady created this wonderful all inclusive health care program for themselves.

We are going to have to fight for what we deserve and not be fooled by Politicians who promise everyone they meet what ever they think they want. It may be true that somethings happen when Democrates are in power that are good for us but, at what cost to our future. I used to be a Republican but, now I dislike the politics of both partys. The common man has been forgoten and we are even futher down the list of importance for most politicians. I hate to think about where we are going to be as a county five years from now.

I hate to be a spoil sport this is just how I feel.

Peace & Love Amanda

ok, here's another little part of my life I haven't talked about too much. I was an air traffic controller just before the strike of 1981. I left before then (a mutual agreement), but while I was in, I never joined the union because I knew they were going to strike, and the first piece of paper we had to sign upon accepting employment was a no-strike contract. I couldn't in good conscious, agree to joining a strike after signing my name to a contract. And striking was a forgone conclusion throughout the 70's. Everyone knew it.

But, for those 4 years, I argued, look, not one controller has ever retired from government service as a controller, you've all had to leave controlling for medical reasons (stress!!!) and go into airways facility management. Basically that was the boss of ATC and they made all the decisions that the controllers totally disagreed with and felt were the real problems behind every failure of the system(do you see where this is going?). I said, look, why don't you just get all of your dedicated union people to get into Airways Facility Mgmt, and then slowly take over! What a wonderful idea. Not as sexy as a strike, but more effective in the long run. They looked at me like I was crazy. Why? They all knew deep down once they got into AFM, that they would change their tune about what was really wrong with the system, and it surely wasn't going to be AFM.

Isn't it amazing that we have all these dedicated people saying 'There's a problem with (fill in the blank) and if elected/appointed/promoted I'm going to improve it" And then when they are elected/appointed/promoted they become just like the pigs in Animal Farm. Every day they look (and act and talk) more and more like the people they were going to improve upon. It never fails, does it. Sell out is our main commodity. Yes, Obama has sold out, just like Bush, Clinton, Bush Sr., Reagan, hmmm. Carter never sold out and look where it got him. They all learned from that failure.

This country wants sell-outs, it doesn't want leaders. (which is why S. Palin is so perfect!) Leaders will make us have to think, consider things, do critical analysis. Who wants that when bread and circus's are so easily obtainable.

Sarah Palin's cowgirl-on-display style of public speaking is what makes her so popular. She represents a large, but very unpopular, part of American society: soccer moms. Palin presents herself as the quintessential soccer mom. She has an opinion on everything (even if she's uninformed), she's bossy, and she lauds conservative values. People aren't concerned if their leaders know anything, they just want their leaders to be just like them. Palin would end up destroying the U.S. Presidency if she were elected, but she'd do so riding a horse and roping cattle, scheduling football games on the White House front lawn, and having arm wrestling matches at the dinner table. When it comes down to it, Bush and Palin are pretty similar in their approaches. I hope that come next election people realize we don't need a circus act running the country.

Too many people don't care about anything. All they want is for things to work good for themselves. People only voted for Obama because he won the popularity contest. He looked good. He said what people wanted. The conservatives knew he was a liar way before he was elected, and too many liberals won't pay enough attention to figure that out (so much for being open-minded).

Most people don't know the stances of anyone in politics. It's all a popularity contest, and who's with who. Not who's good at what, who will do what.

Regarding the candidates...this is the best either side could do since Obama was President? Biden is supportive, but when I see really solid gains, like ensuring that all transition services are covered by all insurance companies, I will believe the support.   I do not think anybody is trying to destroy the country, but with the current polarization, there is no compromise. There is this "you are either with us or against us" mantra being touted. We can moan all we want about Trump and his ilk, but face it: They are very well coordinated on a national level. They currently have a number of states with a super-majority.   What set all of this in motion? I suspect that there is a lot of things that got under the skin of a lot of conservative folks. Some of it our own fault, and some of it not. Make no mistake, we are in trouble. If they successfully ban child and adolescent transition nationally, I suspect we will be next. Now they may not pass a law, but if they eliminate the requirement that insurance companies cover the costs of medications, procedures, and surgeries, there will be fewer folks transitioning. The services may still be available, but it will be a cash only business. There are already a fair number of healthcare providers who will not accept the insurance reimbursement rates. There are a number of folks that will lack the resources. That is how you limit our existence. We will still exist, but it will get much harder.

I talked to my doctor about this. And I was frank. He told me I was in a grey area, and I agree. I scored a 3, but alcohol has not controlled my life. I won't drink when I have obligations. But, when I can relax, I drink sometimes. I can control it. I intentionally don't buy alcohol before I go to work at the hospital. When I get off work I can't buy it. And this is by design.    Do I have an alcohol problem? Yes. Can I control it? Yes. Does AA help? Yes. But I consider myself a borderline alcoholic. And yes I'd love to stop and AA works for this. I found I don't need the 12 steps, attending is enough to stop the craving.

If the Dems can hold onto the Senate and flip the House, I feel certain that a lot of protections that have been given via Presidential orders will be codified into law.  It's a long shot, I know, but well worth fighting for.   Carolyn Marie

Biden is trying to help us, but it's the republicans who wants to roll back our civil rights.

I don't have the reference at hand, but at a rally (I believe) here in NC, he remarked at how surprised he was at the hate he could stir up by mentioning trans people. Since all he personally stands for is Trump, I doubt that he personally gives a rat's a$$ about us.  But, it plays to his base.   Here's one https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-checks-crowd-over-crazy-063513389.html   "“I talk about transgender, everyone goes crazy. Who would have thought? Five years ago, you didn’t know what the hell it was.”"
    • Ivy
Do you actually believe that the republican congress would vote for trans rights?  That seems to be the one thing left that they actually are united on.   I'm not convinced Biden is "destroying" the country.  I'm not a big fan, actually. However, since the stated goal of the Republican Party is my elimination (2025), I wouldn't be able to enjoy the coming conservative paradise anyway.  My survival as a free trans woman is kinda on the ballot.  So call me a "single issue   voter" it's out of necessity.   I stand by my original statement.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who think this way, I've been listening to what people had been recently saying, wondering why is he so hard on the Lgbt + community? Maybe there is something he's not telling?

I am concerned about what Trump will do to the transgender community. One group of his supporters are evangelical Christians. I want to emphasize that not all of these Christians are non-supportive, but there are a lot. When you add that transgender people are being singled out as a punching bag for many politicians, our lives become more in jeopardy. We need to stand up and fight back. We have a right to the same freedoms as everyone else.

My name is Jennifer, and used to be a part of this forum, going back to Laura's' Playground. I already know quite a few of the people here. I started transition about 15 years ago. My  gender markers are changed with Social Security and birth certificate. The reason I am returning is I believe I can help guide newer members through the pitfalls of their transitioning experience.   I lived in Arizona, and now live in Maine. And the first thing I want to emphasize is where you live can matter a lot. In Maine, I work in a hospital, and find many of my co-workers very accepting. I find the women more understanding and enjoy my journey more. Of course, this is a small sample, and your mileage may vary.    What I found as one of the most important topics when choosing a place to live. I found only one transgender doctor who understands, or is willing to monitor my HRT. But, he has stopped his regular practice and only sees some of his regular patients on Wednesday mornings. He has changed his career and teaches residents the rest of the week. He told me he wanted to teach other doctors how to work with transgender clients. This subject is woefully lacking in Medical School. I was using the transdermal patch, and we agreed to switch to estradiol valerate. He is working on more feminizing my body. I don't doubt he will be supportive when I decide to go through my surgery, hopefully next year. I will be on Medicare and they support surgery, if it is considered medically necessary.    That is enough for now, and I appreciate this site for all the help with transgender support.   Jennifer

trump only knows how to tear down and destroy. Actually doing something positive and building anything up seems to be beyond his grasp. It's such a a shame that so many people are so bent on trump's hatred and anger. Unhappy people all ☹️
