A Little Question About Shaving

Well this question seems rather silly in my mind but I'm also rather curious on how others del with shaving. I'm mostly curious about those, like me, who aren't really passing or transitioning yet. I know that I do not shave my legs or underarms because I am a boy and boys don't do that. I always wear sleeved shirts and long pants anyways so it doesn't matter but I feel kinda silly for doing this before I start passing. So FtMs do you keep your legs/underarms hairy or do you shave them? And MtFs do you shave yours or not because men who shave their legs get called names? It's a stupid question but I have been curious for quite awhile. Thanks :D

For me i don't shave my arms or legs because its to inconvenient and takes to much time. I keep my underarms shaved though. as long as you wear long pants and shirts it shouldn't make any difference ^^.

i have shaved my legs a few times but dont keep them shaved all the time baecause i play basketball n some of them have noticed before and i dont want more attention than i already have. i will probably resume after the season ends

i shave my chest, back,...pretty much everywhere besides my armpit and leg. It just feels better that way and it doesn't draw attention. X-D

Although I did shave all my body hair recently and I've been wearing long pants and long sleeve shirt until they grow back. lol.

I do shave often and I'm thinking of doing electrolysis now while being closeted still yet. :P It'll save me a LOT of razor burns and cuts in the future X-D

I have kept my legs and underarms shaved for 6 months now. Just got sick and tired of BO (I have to organise the storeroom at work, and it gets Gosh darned hot in there). Also it just feels better.

Have tried shaving chest, but it's just a pain. I also trim my arm hairs short, that way their not noticable, and they still give some sun protection.

I don't shave now because it's futile. I'll probably shave after HRT has done some major changes, and the hair is thin/weak, and won't grow back in certain areas, or take much longer to grow back in others.

hmm for me it doesnt matter if i shave it or not. it depends on if i'm lazy or not and feel like shaving. right now i havent shaved. and its not true if men shave there legs. i know a few guys that shave their legs. they are pretty cool bio guys too. but you know if you don't shave you can get a good chance of passing. i'm not really a big fan of body hairs. so yeah.

Thanks for the answers guys and gals. Sometimes I worry about the stupidest things

Diva-Oh I have noticed how much smellier you get with hair, but to me having hair there makes me feel better

brandt- I know not all men don't shave but I meant the majority. I think I can safely say thst most men don't shave. Also I think my lack of shaving is also due to laziness :P

I don't shave. At all. I hate the feeling of it, my hair is very thick and the resulting stubble can actually rip thin fabric. I've only shaved my beard, and reluctantly at that.

I shave my whole body, except the genital area. When i first shaved, it felt really great (mentally :P physically it was like sitting on a pillow of needles ^_^') but after a few times it doesn't sting anymore even when i get goosebumps :D

and i can't stand the sight of hairy bodyparts anymore >_< so i have to keep shaving

I once shaved my whole body (including genital area), that was a pain in the butt, cuts/burns all over the place. Right now i just have my legs shaved. I am slightly concerned about PE next week though...gotta find someway to change into sweat pants without being noticed. Around the house i wear jeans until i go to bed, in which case i wear my normal boxers (i just jump straight into bed haha).

I hate the hairiness that I inherited...its so...barbaric IMO. Also, I have noticed sensations are increased greatly if theres no hair in the area.

I haven't shaved my armpits yet though...I probably will soon.

Love,

Brianna (Alyssa)

im alittle lat on posting...but here it goes ^.^

i wear pants all the time...so occasionaly i shave my legs... sometimes i use razerless ways like veet....i shave my chest...or i veet my chest....i oftenly shave my armpits and pubic area....i use a reguler razer for them though......the alkali in veet or nair could damage tissue of soft skin areas...i canot shave my back.....i look in the mirror, i see my back and i see nothing....but when i wear a shirt it feels like a monkeys back......it ticks me off that i cant get to it.....the only hard area i can think of shaveing and maintaining shaving for me would be the buttocks and the general area to the pubic area.......but i do enjoy it........i rarely on special occasion shave my arms though......i never wear long sleeve...i dont even like long sleved shirts mainly because i love the cold brisk air on my skin...

P.S.: B.O. does smell worse with hair......as you sweat your hair becomes soaked, staining the hair with its oily water proof surface........

I shave my underarms even now, I just like how it feels when I don't have hair there. I try to shave my face, but I'm too lazy and end up shaving it only occionasionaly (haveing peach fuzz does not help in passing >_<)

No leg shaving, no pit shaving..

I remenber feeling real awkward about shaving pre T and even more awkward not shaving when I startuing living full time but still pre T..

I think no matter what I would have done it would have been uncomfortvle if I didnt weak jeans all the time... Just got to a mindset I did not care and let it go... not awkward about meg hair anymnore but I geuss there are still moments at times where I catch myself guarded about the underarm...

Think it just took some time to get rid of these hang ups but they do creep up astill at times.. Progress not perfections?? probably easier to go with.. even if it means going with the flow situational basis pre T days..

in reguard to shaving peach fuzz... there is no harm and it can be beneficial... not really so much for encouraging facial hair growth but to give that boost of confidence.. not sure how to word it but i am sure you know what I mean...

Walks like a duck...quakcks like a duck must be a duck.. confidence will help "passing" and any tool to help confidence is great..

I need to learn to practise these things in others areas of life..

My experience is very similar to yours, Sally.  When I first started to socially transition I thought 'blending in' was the best approach.  It did not work AT ... ALL.  I was misgendered so often. So now I try to feminize as much as my wardrobe (and time) allows.  For 'girls' my age I believe I am far more fashionable than other women.  So, lately I have been much more successful at 'passing'. But also like you, I am not really trying to fool people.  I expect they assume I am Trans and I just hope they respect my femininity and my humanity.

Actually, they did back at the times of the AIDS pandemic in the 80's.  Some of my slightly older than I am Gay friends were beaten up and thrown out of gender correct restrooms back then.

I'm not sure the past is a sure guide to future needs.  LGB have no dog in the fight on public restrooms, for example.  That is T only, and only some T at that.

When I appear on the radio and podcast it will be in discussion with a political scientist who will discuss those aspects. I’m focussed on the implications for kids and why the recommendations are flawed. But yes, I will probably briefly paint the political background.

GFY, @Betty K. Don't forget to write about the motivations for the Cass Report, and who paid for its conclusions. "Cass Met With DeSantis Pick Over Trans Ban: Her Review Now Targets England Trans Care." — Erin Reed  And now its back to America, 'surprise, surprise.'

Hi @Sol. Great to hear from you and your updates are all encouraging. Wonderful all the support you're now getting from your family and to hear you sounding so positive and hopeful. Career as an archivist sounds like a great path - sensible and not too specific, but endlessly fascinating at the same time. Not only do museums employ archivists, but so do many other institutions such as historical societies and universities. Your university may have its own archives which you could visit and learn about. Take care & be well!

Hi @KathyLauren no worries!   I’ve only ever gotten a two-year degree in programming, and that one was just because I existed in the U.S. Air Force as a coder long enough to qualify for all of the technical credits, then I just took CLEP and DANTES tests to get the rest.   Most of my work has been in the security arena, lots of C/C++. Worked as a Red Hat hacker for a few years, and spent a few more years in gov’t spaces.

Hi, Amanda.  Your story sounds quite familiar, though my pesky body part didn't need the attention of a urologist.  You are in good company here!
    • KathyLauren
Oops.  Sorry, @AmandaJoy, I see you have already posted an introduction.

Hi, @AmandaJoy.  Welcome to Trans Pulse.  Be sure to check out the various forums and join in any threads that interest you.  We'd love to read all about you in the Introductions forum.   -----   I started programming in Dartmouth Basic in high school back in the early 1970s.  I did my degree in Computer Science.  After a brief stint in the "government flying club" (RCAF), I worked as a programmer-analyst and systems analyst for about 25 years.    I am retired now, but I still enjoy programming.  I write a lot of the code for my astrophotography observatory.

WOW HAS IT BEEN A WHILE SINCE I'VE UPDATED!!! Welp, I'm updating now, and it's been a lot of changes.  1. My mom is starting to come around a little (I think). She does refer to me more as her child now, and even offered to help me cut my hair so I think we're making a little progress. I'm still planning on going on T later and I'm gonna start saving up to buy trans tape (I can't wear binders because I have GERD), so hopefully the progress stays. My dad, sibling, friends, and my paternal grandparents have all been super supportive and I'm really lucky for that. My sibling also goes out of their way to introduce me as their brother and it makes me so happy :D 2. I've been socializing a lot more! Mostly on Discord, but I've made some new friends and I'm really happy about that!  3. I'm on birth control! I still need to go to the gyno but my GP got me on the depo shot and it's been working for me so far! My dysphoria has gone through a lot of ups and downs, especially around periods, but that source is pretty much gone now and I feel way better. I do have more dysphoria centered around my chest now but that's pretty easily fixed with baggy shirts most of the time.  4. I know 100% now that I'm hoping for a uterine ablation (cauterizing the uterine tissue so it doesn't grow) at some point in the future and it's likely something I'll have to save up for but from my research it's a lot less invasive and safer than a hysterectomy so I definitely recommend it if people are able to access it. I also know that after that, I want to save up for a reduction to combat the chest dysphoria, and I still like having it sometimes so I'll keep a bit of it (I'm shooting for an A cup, I'm a C cup currently).  5. I've been writing more and I've even got some ideas for art projects! I also got an Archive of Our Own account where I post my finished writing, and I'm starting a book project at my mom's urging (she said she wanted that as her Christmas present so I'm gonna try, might not get it done this year though). I haven't gotten to write much lately but I'm hoping to change that this month.  And finally, 6. I'm gonna be a college junior and I have a career path to pursue! I'm gonna be an archivist, hopefully working for a museum (not too specific on where, I just like museums).  So yeah, a lot of stuff has happened and it's been pretty good!

Hi Thea!   Professional coder since ‘90, hobbyist since ‘83. C/C++, C#, Java, Ruby, Python, Ada, COBOL, Fortran, various flavors of BASIC. Love C, but it’s mostly been about Python recently.
