Not Exactly Coming Out, But...

My wife and I went to get christmas dinner supplies tonight. It was raining, so naturally we needed a change of clothes when we got home. Her free-flow skirt was on the bed and on a whim, I put it on. Then I took it off. ^_^

I went out and asked her if I could wear it, and she said yes, so I went and put it back on, and have been wearing it ever since. It's one of those long, scrunchy, very flowy multicolored skirts with the elastic waist. So I went out in the living room and sat down at the computer, and she made eggs and toast for dinner. When it was ready, I called her(now our) son out to eat (he's 18 and doesn't know I'm trans). I was sitting when he came out and didn't notice, but I had to get back up to get a fork, and he stopped in the middle of what he was saying and said "You're wearing a dress...". I said "No, I'm wearing a skirt, and it's extremely comfortable, you should try it". He didn't say anything after that lol. I don't know what's going through his head, but I feel like it's a little step.

I love this skirt!

You have any plans to tell your son soon?

If he doesn't know, or at least suspect something after that then um IDK, but that was a good ice breaker and it might have opened the door for an interesting conversation. I would recommend doing it in male mode though, having that discussion with you en femme might be too much for him.

Well, Shi.....

That is a "Sorta" coming out....lol.

But, I do agree with Joanna...when you gather up the nerve to tell him...most certainly do it in male mode...he'll need small exposure ...bit by bit after that!

Good luck, Baby!

Shilo,

My you are almost as big a coward as me!

You have been given good advice - do it in male mode, as to when I will offer a suggestion.

Not until the holidays are almost over - then as a New Year's Resolution tell him that you want to get to know each other better in the coming year and start the ball rolling with a little explanation as to why he saw you in a Skirt that evening.

It can start the ball rolling and gives a reason for waiting - on your list for the New Year!

I hope things go well - I think they will or he would have gone ballistic over the skirt in the first place.

Love ya,

Sally

Hiya Shilo,

Maybe I'm being too optimistic but I'm with Sally on this one... at least it seems like your son isn't going to react angrily if you do end up coming out to him in full. I can't be sure, but hey... maybe you'll get to wear skirts a bit more often in the future now ^^;;

Good luck anyway :)

Lol, I have not come out to my son yet and probably will not until he is graduated from high school but last week when I was visiting him and his mom I was wearing shorts, he looked at my legs and asked if I shaved my legs. I said "no". The last time I did shave them was like a month ago, one of the benefits of HRT, body hair becomes dense.

I can only imagine what was going through your sons mind when you told him it was extremly comfortable and you should try it. He must of thought you lost your mind or OMG my dad is not wearing a skirt. He must really be confused now.

I know you said you are scared to tell him but you had enough courage to wear the skirt in front of him. You have some courage in there. Good Luck letting you son know.

Love,

Sarah F

Haven't decided when or how yet. I keep hoping if I drop enough hints he'll just figure it out. I know, I'm a coward. I can't help it.

Hehe. Not yet...but, I had an appointment with my GT today, and that's what he wants me to do for my homework, and I'm terrified. I know it's crazy, but I'm more afraid of telling him than I am about anyone else. With anyone else, I don't have to see them every day. Even with my wife, ya I was scared, but I knew that if it went bad, she'd probably leave me and I wouldn't have to look her in the eye every day either, but with him...I have to see him EVERY DAY, regardless of how he reacts. *Sigh*.

LOL, it's ok, it was pretty funny. When I told my therapist about it today even he was laughing about it.

It's good to hear some positive notes through all the negativity about at the moment. I am not religious but do see a lot of positivity in many things they do, outside of the normal media attention.   Tracy

From what I understand, my GF's early life was influenced by supremacism.  She sniffed around the edges of a couple of groups, and ended up for a while as part of an armed communist organization.  Mostly, just looking for a place to belong, and something to struggle for (and against).  She's told me about some of it, no doubt just the heavily edited Cliff Notes version.  But she did say that hatred takes effort.  It isn't something you're born with, its something you learn or that develops, often through suffering.    I think perhaps it is easier for children of supremacists to leave and do something different than it is for people who come to it through their own experiences.  When they are shown kindness by folks who are different from them, it begins to crack the wall.

I've come to the understanding that most Angry and Intolerant people are that way because they haven't discovered their True Self.  So they lash out at others instead of seeking internal discovery ... whatever that is.  So for me ... it is not a Surprise but a welcome Celebration of the individuals Humanity.

Bravo! @Vidanjali!   Their objective is to steer 'the Youth' in a different (and more conservative/intolerant) direction, but they don't realize they will actually push them away and lose them in the long run.

@awkward-yet-sweet, bummer about the road trip that isn't. Next time!   @KymmieL, good luck with the job hunting, you deserve it.   @Birdie, I'm happy for you that you have a new connection who seems so supportive!   @Ivy, enjoy!   The issue I referred to in my little grizzle the other day looks like it will resolve itself without conflict. Everything is good. 🙂

One of the reasons that I hesitated to sign up to this forum originally was because I couldn't think of a femme name for myself. That stems from the fact that I wasn't seeking one, and still don't, although lately I have become a bit curious.   My username has geographical and astronomical connections. It is an indigenous word that describes the Southern Cross constellation.

Again, thank you for these posts @Sally Stone. As a person just embarking on their own exploration, seeing through an eagle’s eye is invaluable. I can understand the desire to compartmentalize. I’m coming out at 47 and have several military affiliated friends. I never served myself but know them via hobbies we share. I’d be nervous about coming out to those whom I didn’t know very well, but some I do know better are openly ‘queer’. Meeting these people definitely challenged my existing stereotypes about the military in a positive way; more regarding those who comprise the services as opposed to stated protocol/mission.
