I've loved bluegrass music for 30 years plus. I've seen Ricky Scaggs, Flat and Scruggs, Alison Krauss, Patty Loveless,

and many, many local groups.

Anyone else out there, and who are your favorites?

Oh, and the new Steve Martin album? Excellent. That man can play the banjo!

Heck, Yeah, Girlfriend...

I played banjo for 25 years or so! I can't play anymore because of my arthritis..but I still have my banjo...

I grew up on Flat & Scruggs listening to their radio program out of Chattanooga when I lived in Georgia!

And I heard Steve Martin recently on "Prairie Home Compaion"..he is a virtuoso!

Good stuff, Carolyn! Love it!

HUGGS!

YES! Ricky Scaggs rocks! I have about three or four bluegrass albums. My friends hate it when I bring the ipod on a trip.

Still need to listen to the Steve Martin album

Yes, a lot of that is bluegrass, although some tracks are gospel and blues as well. I love it too! I think I;ve seen the movie at

least 10 times.

How about Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver?

Donna Jean

I don't think I've heard them, but I'll look for them now. Thanks!

While my spouse is in to traditional and some modern country, I happen to like (and appreciate) many forms of bluegrass - as well as old english and scottish tunes - ballads - of the 1700's. Which were sort of precursors to bluegrass and to the really down home mountain songs of the late 1800's and early 1900's that were shown in the movie 'Songcatcher'.

Of the later bluegrass groups, I like Bill Monroe (well, of course), Flatt and Scruggs, Alison Krauss, Del McCrory, John Hartford. We've seen Del McCrory and John Hartford live each from about 10-15 feet away in some small venues. That's where it really is enjoyable. My spouse has liked Ricky Skaggs.

'O Brother' did cover several genres of music besides bluegrass (like the very early beginnings of jazz and r&B)

I've never really listened to blugrass on the radio, internet, CD, mp3, etc BUT every August there is something called Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA which has blugrass music in some of the tents and I'll occaisionally listen to it and in October The Richmond Folk Festival (which was the NATIONAL Folk Festival until 2 yrs ago) has some good blugrass. I go up to Richmond every year to listen to the groups.

That being said, BOTH festivals have free admission for the music, relying on food sales and donations to raise money and I don't think I'd ever PAY to hear it.
