I Found A Job!

Seems like I'm always waning in and out of here whenever I hit rocky spots, but I'm back again with good news and smoother roads?

Seven months ago, the idea of finding a job seemed ludicrous. I'd been on a few interviews, but most of them had turned south the minute I opened my mouth to say hello and introduce myself. Like all introductions when it comes down to the name game. Instantaneous 'what do I say?' panic. Well, a couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine popped me a message and told me the store they work at was hiring via 'word of mouth' - basically, they wanted employees to recruit people or have people walk in and ask versus advertising. My friend had already talked to the managing staff about me and managed to get me an interview with an added tid-bit: they knew I was transgendered before I even walked in the door. I had the interview when I went into the store and they hired me straight out of the interview, and after a few mishaps along the way (bungling my first trip to the orientation prior to employment), I finally made it and the job was sealed. Had my first day of work yesterday and started training with how to use a cash register, manage the stock room, etc., etc. Best of all, got that name tag, and there's something fantastic about looking down and it saying 'Mike' (there's another Michael, so as the newcomer, my name is the shortened one. But I don't care, it's awesome - my name tag says Mike!).

It's amazing to me. Really, I didn't think I was ever going to find that job and things felt like they were going south. Now it seems like a turn flip and things are going better than I'd really thought they were going to. Makes me feel stupid for ever doubting that things would get better.

That's great, Michael. Congrats!

I hope you have fun and make some good money. It's nice to have money you've earned yourself.

I wish you luck and success.

I second the congrats.

Another thing, for everybody else out there. I chose a gender neutral middle name for professional usage. Might work for some other people too!

I read that on your name tag!

That is fantastic news, Michael, I am proud of you and impressed by your friend.

Congrats, I am glad to see that someone out there is open to the idea of us trans. You might have to take your friend out to dinner or something for helping you get the job.

Love,

Dear Mike,

I try to stay where I belong, in the parents forum but...

I am so happy for you! Your story gives hope to others! I can just imagine your joy when you see your name on your name tag. Way to go! And way to go for your friend and employer too!

Love,

Twinstar

Just a quick, slightly off topic note to Twinstar - your place is anywhere in the forums, we appreciate the input from parents and SOs in all forums.

Now back to our topic!

I can only imagine the joy of having the right name on your name tag - someday soon I will either be out at work or out of work - I hope for the first with a new name tag that says, "Sally".

Love ya,

Sally

Thanks ya'll!

I can't begin to explain how happy I am about the name tag. I've had good fortune with people, really, so I'm starting to realize that. Even at school, there's been a general willingness to let me sign my name and submit my artwork according to my preference. Luckiest guy in the States. That'd be me. : D

Finding the job alone was great, because it helps me out with staying in schools and I can realistically start looking for a therapist in town. I don't make a lot of money, but it's more than enough for me to work out how to live on it with a good budget, and I've got three worked out for different sets of hours. There's a potential raise in there after three months too, so that's something to look forward to.

I think I owe my friend a lot more than dinner. Ha, ha. She's a wonderful person, and I'm glad to have met her. She's been nothing but great to me even when I haven't known her for long or all that well, so I'd think she deserves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I'm sorry for asking so many questions about your situation. I'm in your camp and believe you should be able to be whoever you feel you need to be. I guess it the Union Shop Stewart coming out in me. I want you to be treated fairly as well as respectably. You're human, you're a client of theirs. Especially if you're paying money to be there.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Views, terminology, and aspects of how events came to be....aren't those directly related to the news item?  If not, I'm rather confused.

Second warning, this has gotten far and apart from the NEWS item that it started out with and is becoming a flat out battleground over political leanings and terminology.

Welcome to Lefty Land.... a festive theme park full of sparkles and unicorns, a perfect place except for one evil orange dragon wearing a blond wig.    I'm always amazed at the "flexibility" of definitions.  One person's f@scist seems like a centrist to others.  One person's "moderate" looks to others like the 2nd coming of Fidel Castro.  A normal marriage a century or two ago is now a criminal offense, and relationships that used to be a criminal offense are now open, normal marriages.  Pedophiles now want to be called "minor attracted persons" and teenagers are now defined as children.  A Republican in NY or CA would be a Democrat just about anywhere else.  I'm certainly no advocate for relativism, these are just observations.    What I find interesting about this Australian candidate is the attitude that he shouldn't be allowed to run for office.  Why?  Just because his views are different, or even offensive?  Who makes that determination?  Can an election really be open and fair if it is barred to candidates who are not "politically correct?"  Here in the USA, we can openly have candidates who are f@scist or any other thing they want to be, no real restrictions aside from eligibility requirements related to age, location, citizenship, and criminal record.

@Birdie You certainly have more patience than I do.  I don't take it well if I get scolded.  Either I sulk or I get nippish.    We had a good Mother's Day here yesterday.  Quite an event, since 4 of my partners are mothers.  GF enjoys it a lot, because she's very (excessively?) proud of having produced her 5 kids.  Her eldest starts school this fall.  Amazing how time flies...

Reminds me of elementary school when a kid yanked my chair as I was taking a seat. I told him to "go suck an egg" and we both got sent to the principals office. I was like, "tf did I do to deserve that?"

Firstly, it's nice to hear that your other half is now open to you living as you are!   Secondly, things I have noticed, having started shots just before the New Year: Tears do come much more easily I am far more tender with my wife and I like to snuggle more I have noticed anxiety has an increased effect on me I am on a weekly injection, so when I get near my next shot I have noticed feeling a little emotionally "blah" After shots I am much more energetic and bubbly Otherwise, I wouldn't say I've been on any kind of roller coaster of emotion and I'm far from unstable. So take heart and congratulations!

Three reprimands in a certain time frame? It seems like they should drop off the calendar after a period of time. How long can they hold a reprimand on the calendar?   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Congratulations on getting the go ahead with HRT. I'm so ready for my wife to drop her opposition. As for the mood swings... I would look forward to them myself.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Three reprimands and they suspend attendance for a couple weeks.
    • Mmindy
Good for the other participant. What's involved in a reprimand? At our age, what are they going to do? Withhold snacks...   @BirdieI'm sorry you have to put up with such discrimination's. I'm proud that you're standing up for yourself.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
