How I Found My Voice

So after about a year of working on it, I have a very cute feminine voice.

Before I always sounded like a girl in the way I spoke, but in a way it was hard to tell. Myself being my biggest critic, maybe I was exaggerating but I thought I sounded like a gay 13 year old boy (I hope no one takes that the wrong way).

So when I was younger, my older brothers friends used to make this reallllly annoying high pitched whine thingy with their voices, then laugh because after they did it, they would almost sound like girls. They made fun of this of course.

So about a year ago I would try it, then talk with it for a while, recording it with my cellphone (while no one was around). After doing it for a while it actually worked.

It takes a lot of pratice, and I noticed that I must of been using different mussels in my throat cause it felt like the upper part of my throat was being used instead of where i used to feel it in the lower part.

Over time I started speaking with it more naturally, with better mannerisms in my voice (kinda adapted from females whom I always admired, and in a way emulated how they spoke - it helped)

So now I don't even need to pratice speaking in the morning till it get's right and sticks for the day, it just naturally happens when I speak! I'll post a sample of my voice sometime when I get a chance to.

Sigh.. Time to explane how to do it.

Okay I guess I can't explain exactly how I did it, but I thought of a way that is almost the same.

It's like saying 'Ahhhhh' in your normal tone, holding it for a moment (maybe till you run out of breath or close to)

Then try stretching your neck a bit and saying 'Ahhhhh' a bit higher.

Then do it again.

You might notice your voice beginning to crack a bit, that's okay. For me, that was breaking into a higher range then before. If your voice cracks like that, take a drink of water, slowly, then try it again!

After a bit of doing this, you might see that you got it higher then before. Kinda feel how your throat feels when you get into a higher pitch. Then try and talk to yourself for a bit, how you normally would when you try and speak with a female voice.

Does this help any? I hope so. I wish I could explane it better though!!

It seems to help a bit. My biggest problem is when I was younger I had to train myself to have more of a male voice because everyone always said I sounded like a girl on the phone. After training yourself to sound one way for so long it is difficult to change back or have even more of a feminine voice.

Love,

Awh that's so awful, I'm sorry to hear that hun =[

But you can retrain it back to a female range! I know you can =] if you belive in yourself and just keep working at it, then it can be done! You might even stumble on something crazy that really works for you!

Just keep working at it, you can do it girl!

does your trained voice ever become natural? will I spend the rest of my life always having to think before I speak (lol sounds like good advice) to make sure I switch into the right voice first?

GOOOD question? I have that same problem sometimes - How to get into voice and KEEP IT!

What I do is I always sweet-talk to my cat - especially in the morning! Its really a girl voice now - I didn't realize it!

So I sweet-talk everyone! Just pretend they are my cat!

Stupid? WELL - WORKS FOR ME!

I have been working on my voice an hour each day for nearly 11 months and it seems like I constantly discover something new. Singing Christmas Carols over the holidays made a HUGE improvement. It just doesn't sound so…forced when I reach into the higher registers and my speaking voice had much more dynamics. But the thing I have begun to notice lately is I can feel the muscles in the back of my throat taking on the same shape as when I yawn. I am thinking this is key to developing the proper female resonance.

Over time mine became natural =] I used to have to in a way over express my voice to get it to how I talk today. One day I was talking to someone and I tried that over expressing thing and it felt/sounded weird. Turned out that I sounded just fine. I really don't remember what I used to sound like... Thank goodness I guess lol

I think it's the mussels you use when you talk, when they get used to a certain way, they'll work like that.

They key thing with it I guess, is really just practice and keep doing it. Over time it'll become natural. Just like when you have to learn to walk again!

If ur driving around alone you can practice just talking to yourself or having a conversation in the car. You can wear like a bandanna over your face so people cant see your talking to yourself. Or just wear a headset/ear piece
