Honey...you'll have to check what your prescription plan is...

And if your doctor is like mine and codes the treatment as "Hormone imbalance" the hormones will most likely be covered as any other med is...

Most insurance plans will not cover cross gender treatment of any sort, be it HRT or surgeries....

So, we have to make it work for us!

HUGGS!

I will check with Mary - she runs the tricare program for BCBSMN where I work as well- different blue but she might be able to answer the question - as for coverage directly from Anthem - call customer service and ask - or betteret make sure you go to an in-network pharmacy - the pharmacy contacts the carrier to verify coverage and if not covered, they will contact you. Most plans are moving to generic only drugs so if your doc is prescribing generic versions - at least it won't get kicked for not being in the formulary. If you need brand name like vivelle.dot then it becomes more complicated.

Guest i is Sam :-)

If not there is a thread on here about places that supply them at $4 a month, so it's the doctor's consults and lab work that really matters. (assuming i've managed to understand anything about how US healthcare works)

:D Tricare covers full HRT. Estrodiol $3, Sprio $3, Prometrium $3, Avodart $22 (its off formulary). I use the Tricare persription benefit for all my perscriptions.

I use my primary insurance for the labs with Tricare as a secondary. I can still get stuck with a lab bill that make your eyes pop out. One set was nearly $700.

My Endo visits have been covered for the most part. Once it was explained that I was a Chimera...well, they didn't like it but frack them. Menopause sucks big time when your Chimeric.

I think that view's changing alittle bit thanks to a fairly recentish Discovery Health documentary.

Maybe see what they can do for you now?

Does anyone know the Blue Cross treatment code for "Hormone Imbalance?" My OBGYN told me he has tried several times and has never been able to find it so estrogen would be covered for the MTF's he has treated.

I have Blue Cross and they didn't give me any trouble but individual plans may vary!

Mine was under hormone replacement therapy. They didn't know replacement meant re-assignment!
