Tongue Piercing

I've been thinking about getting a tongue piercing for a while now, but was wondering... Too Feminising (capital F indeedy), or alright for an unfortunately female-looking FtM?? And I'd love a rainbow tongue ring, but again... I don't care if it screams QUEER!, just so long as it doesn't scream LESBIAN or MAN, I FEEL LIKE A WOMAN! or something equally unhelpful. If not rainbow, any other suggestions?

What do you guys think?

From what I learned in highschool, there is only one reason why someone would get a tongue ring. It's not like everyone is going to see it and I would suggest not getting it. You said you still look pretty feminine, so it's going to put negative implications in everyone's heads. Every girl who had a tongue ring in highschool was considered a sleeper.

But it's up to you. Other than that "one reason," I just don't see the point.

I know tons of rockers, emo guys, punk rockers, fashion gurus, coolness icons that have tongue rings. I'd worry more about it being painful than being feminizing!

Of all the piercings I have (or had), the tongue hurt the least. It was a little pinch. My problem was that I have active saliva glands so for a little bit before she did it I was salivating all over the place. Oh and then the swelling! You definatly have to keep ice cubes handy to pop in your mouth for at least a day or two to bring the swelling down. Oh and forget eating anything substantial for the first couple days. Or spaghetti. or anything that involves a lot of chewing.

With all that aside, I know a few guys who have their tongue pierced. Most of the people I know with their tongue pierced are girls though. But who cares about what's 'male' or 'female'. If you really want to get your tongue pierced, do it!

If you're going to get one try to get them to do it on a subtle angle far enough back so it's not visible every time you open your mouth and it won't be too feminizing as you say. I have one and sometimes people have known me for years before they realised. Many of the guys I know that have tongue rings are gay, they may be effeminate but they are seen as men, otherwise like Neuro said it's guys that are into alternate music scenes and it's pretty accepted.

I've never had that connotation thrown at me. Maybe it's age, maybe it's culture, maybe it comes down to the individual but I've not had anyone make any assumptions about why someone would get one, it's always just accepted as simply another accessory.

I had it explained to me by several people, and what I learned was that it isn't a fashion accessory. It's a pleasuring tool. But, if you guys want to use it for fashion, be my guest.

For what it's worth, that's what I've heard as well. But if you decide really want a tongue piercing, don't fuss about whether it's gendered, etc. Tongue piercings freak me out a little bit, so I have trouble just saying "go for it," but if you've really thought it through like, and it's what you want, then well...yeh.

Really?? I've never heard of that. I know it's meant to be...er, good...but generally, here at least, it's always just seemed to be a fashion thing, no implications or connotations attached. It's not a regional variation sort of thing?

Older person here. My son and his girlfriend had it done 12 years ago - kept it for a while - then gave it up - mainly because of going to college. It affected their speech just a bit - which they didn't like.

I was worried about infection because your mouth is really dirtier than a toilet bowl (Google and see). But they did okay.

Yes - for oral sex.

Feminizing look? Someone said mainly girls get it done? Seems kinda like that - but body piercing is a statement. Nobody who does it seriously is thinking anything other than - 'look at the extremes I will go through.' But now tongue piercing is not so rare.

Pieced ears are all this grandma has. Had them 35 years. If I was twenty and had a pretty belly-button - I would look at that - BUT I hear that area of piercing is prone to so much infection sometimes! And the lower for girls - YIKES! NEVER!

But I shudder at nose piercings - to many bad colds in my life. Brows are okay on the right person - not for me - I am waaaaay past that. I think a few ear piercings are okay - but it looks reptilian somehow with six or eight (maybe that's the point?) And body studs and ribs - why?

So an ole grey mare - I am just saying - look at your body artistically - keep it pretty! Don't overdo anything! Make-up, hair, tattoos - or piercings! Go for beautiful! And even if you aren't Ms. Hollywood or Mr. Cool (who is?) be yourself and smile! It makes people wonder what you have that they don't know about!

Did they explain that about 10 years ago?

I've heard people suggest what they think it is, but they were always people without a tongue piercing themselves and the last time I heard it was a decade ago. Tongue piercings would be one of the more common mainstream piercings now and no longer have that stigma attached to them.

Just like how getting your right ear pierced used to mean people would consider you gay, it means nothing now.

I'm in Oz too and like I said I've never had anyone make that connotation to me, back when tongue rings were a new thing there was some stigma attached, similar to, but not as crude as, the stigma attached now to girls who get a lower back tattoo, these suggestions that tongue rings have anything to do with promiscuity or being about oral sex have always come from those who don't have one and I've never heard anyone under 20 make that claim.

The most I've had is 10 years ago a couple of goofy guys sniggering and winking and asking if my boyfriend liked it, they were the same guys who ask me if being vegetarian means I can't give head (cause it's "meat"), get the idea of the maturity levels I'm talking about? *eye roll*

I'm sorry, just one more thing that I fail to understand - tattoos, piercings and sky diving!

Tattoos - we all change our minds but tattoos are very hard to change.

Piercings - I have enough holes in my head and body (the objective of a fencing duel is to avoid piercings)

Sky diving - Why jump out of a perfectly good airplane?

These are things that baffle me.

But it is your tongue and if you think that hot soup will be a greater pleasure with a nice piece of metal in your mouth to absorb the heat - go ahead.

Love ya,

Sally

I wanna Get double monroe, double labret, bridge , tongue , hips and septum ... I won't do them all, but i really like them (too much facial piercings are horrible) ,

I Don't think that piercings are feminizing.I think that piercings are Unisex. And in some people they may look femenine but that's becasue of the person tha wears it.

And I saw Lots of guys with hips pierced and it looks good.

it depends of the person, some people will say it's femenine and others will say it doesn't matter.

Personally, I think when it comes to things like piercings (other than standard ear piercings) you should just go for it if you really want it. I mean, when you do something like that, it's more just about...the look and feel of the piercing, not how other people perceive it, I think. Personally, I don't overly love tongue piercings - they cause the people who get them a lot of little inconveniences, and it's not even like they're seen a lot. So you'd basically be paying a nice sum for something that you're only going to occasionally even be recognized as having. If you get a metal one, you can have a lot of trouble with your teeth - my cousin had to take her's out because the metal hitting up against the back of her teeth was causing damage. There's really a lot more to consider going into piercings than whether or not it's feminine - in this case, it's pretty unisex, but I do know mostly girls who have had it done. And I have heard about the whole "pleasuring" purpose behind it, as well, though I wouldn't say that it's a standard thought around here that that's why someone would get it done.

If you want one, go for it. I don't find piercings to be feminizing in any way, really.

You will have to consider the placement of it and do some research on how it may effect your speech or teeth (I suggest getting one where it doesn't it your teeth), but there are ways to get around those. Be responsible about it though, and take good care of it if you get one. Be careful, but don't be afraid of getting one either.

I know plenty of guys who get tongue piercings. I don't think it is very feminine. However, I would urge you to consider the risks. If your piercing gets infected you can be in serious trouble. Here is a good site on the possible downfalls of piercing your tongue: http://www.drhendry.ca/InfoAndLinks/Tongue...g/Piercing.html

Thanks for your advice everyone, it is all appreciated. :)

I actually - and I can't believe I did this - went and got it done yesterday. I'd been looking it up, the pros and the cons, and was thinking a lot about it (as quite a few of you have said, there are some serious risks involved), and then yesterday arvo thought that if I didn't get it done I'd just keep thinking about it forever - I'd keep looking, and the leaping would never happen. So I went and did it, and the lady was very nice, and very quick. Hurt like hell at the time, but now it's fine.

So yeah... Surprised Mum a bit, and the first thing she said (after "Wow!") was "You know it's meant to be good for oral sex?". No Mum, never heard that before. But yes, so all goodly. Though ice-cream and painkillers are still my friends. ^_^

Thanks again guys and girls. *hugs*

We agree on most of this... and the church/state thing is kind of a tangent anyways. Oops. LOL   I think it has long been established that all different kinds of groups have access to public funds. In my opinion, either everybody has access or nobody does. I would prefer "nobody."   Relying on public funds gives the government the power to take it away, and puts that power in the hands of whatever group controls the government at the moment... the news article that is the topic of this thread shows a clear example of that happening.  Organizations trust government at their peril.

More info on Abigail Thorne here: https://go.nebula.tv/philosophytube and, Dracula's ex-girlfriend, on Philosophy tube.   "The reason why Nebula is so cheap for what it is, is because there's no upper hierarchical group looking yo skim off the top. Imagine how much cheaper EVERYTHING could be if it was like that for every other service or product; if the money went straight to workers, not up a chain of command until it reached someone who did exactly "jack" to produce what's being sold.

I'm aware that the young US ended up fighting a war with these people, and that phrase was not meant to address Church & state.  But somebody was willing to include it at the time.   I am also aware that your family arrangements would not go over well with most christian nationalists.  But that is kinda where I'm coming from on this.  I believe you and others of us with an unconventional lifestyle should be free to live as we desire - as long as we are not hurting anyone else.  And by "hurting" I don't mean only their feelings.   Using christianity to justify oppression is just wrong.  As is forced conversion, or forced conversion therapy.   Regarding public funds, LGBTQetc people have as much right to them as straight-cis folks.  I'm not arguing that queer people have more rights, just equal rights.

Even better news:  It turns out for my sister it was cardio not stroke. She’s put on new blood thinner and sent home. False alarm! Yay.

Things have changed since I've been on HRT for about 15 years. The consequence is I am not so concerned about how I present all the time.  I wear t-shirts a lot. I am pragmatic in how I shop. No, I don't want to look male, but will buy some male clothing because it fits. I am tall and built like a football linebacker, so buying women's clothes that fit can be difficult. For one I have no problem buying men's sneakers if they can pass as unisex. I wear size 12-13 women's shoes. And that can be hard to find. And, I don't like wearing slacks without pockets. I use pockets for work.    I've learned to be pragmatic. I dress up when I want to go out in public, and not so much at work. I do have a favorite blouse that accentuates the girls. And one blue striped blouse where I wear a cami top.

https://www.patheos.com/blogs/danthropology/2016/05/secularists-please-stop-quoting-the-treaty-of-tripoli/   ^^^ an interesting piece about the treaty, written by an atheist.   I totally understand why the Christian nationalist stuff makes people uncomfortable. For me, it is uncomfortable in a different way, as modern Christian nationalism is not nearly as "generic" as the views of the Founders.  Its specifically Evangelical.  I'm in a plural marriage, so definitely not approved of.    I believe the intent of the Founders was to uhold generic Christian ideas... "in God we trust" and "there's a God who created the world and He wrote ten commandments for us" sort of stuff.  Nothing beyond that, nothing specific enough to use against folks.
    • awkward-yet-sweet
Free?!?!  That's insane.  I can understand perhaps mistaking somebody's well equipped garage as a business, but demanding free work is ridiculous.   My GF once remarked that while few things in life are free, butt-kickings are an exception. She offers those free-of-charge, to any who ask. A little charity helps the world go round 🤣

I had a CDL when I was working for the city.  But I let it go when I retired.  I couldn't justify paying so much just to drive myself around.
    • Ivy
While I'm sure the "Founders" had the 30 years war, etc. on their minds, they didn't write the constitution as considering only Christian sects. The early colonists (I used the word) did mostly come from areas of "christian culture" but it's hard to reconcile some of their actions with what Christ himself taught.   Christians have a right to their beliefs, but there are a lot of American citizens that do not consider themselves "christian."  I have seen writings where the US was specifically said not to be a "Christian Nation". "The 1797 Treaty of Tripoli that sought to secure America from attacks by the so-called Barbary pirates who were Muslim made a point to say that the United States "is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion.""    It shouldn't be difficult to understand why the "Christian Nationalist" movement makes some of us uncomfortable.
