Is It The Hormones?

Hi everyone. I know none of you can give me medical advice but just wanted to know if anyone has experienced the symptoms I have been having. After a week or two of starting HRT, will be three months next week, I started to having problems swallowing, not just food but in general. I thought maybe it was from the hair loss medication I was taking so I stopped it for awhile. The problem still persisted. Tried to ignore it and hope it would go away, it has not. I then noticed an hour or more after taking my hormones that I started to lose my voice. This would last throughout the day and most of the evening. The next morning when I wake up my voice is back to normal. Another occurance I have noticed since taking hormones is a constant runny nose. Especially when I am eating. Never had this before. I will be seeing my endocrinologist next thursday and will inform him of these symptoms. This has become extremely frustrating to me since I have been trying to feminize my voice.

Hi Suzie,

Well, I'm just a few months into HRT and have had no problems swallowing or with voice. As I read this, I wonder if it's possible that you're getting dehydrated. Spiro is a diruetic and rids you of water. I drink a ton of liquids during a day, maybe several quarts or more and my system is flushed, believe me.

My skin is drier than it's ever been (that's dry), I have to use lotions daily and my nose is really dry. It's so dry that I'm bleeding slightly. Not bloody nose bleeding, but when my nose gets a little plugged, there's a little blood in with it. I guess it's drying up and the skin splits. It's not high blood pressure, as mine is low.

I do get runny noses a lot, where I hardly ever did before. This is especially pronounced if I go outside when it's cold (below 40 deg. F). If it's single digits or less, look out, I'll leave a puddle....

I'm not taking E orally, I'm on patches.

Hugs,

Yvonne

Maybe you've got a mild allergy to something? i have you changed anything in the last few months? shampoo, laudry detergent, any changes in what you've been eating etc.? You can just develop an allergy one day to something you've been fine with your whole life.

I suggest you try taking an anti-hystamine and seeing if it helps at all, if so you'll have to get tested.

Hum, I'm wondering if it might have more to do with your developing voice than the HRT. I have noticed some very weird things going on with the muscles in my neck since I have been working on mine. I must use both my male and female voices and sometimes it's like the muscles in my throat get confused and don't know where they are supposed to be. It also might be that you over doing it and straining them?

Suzie.......

I'd put my money on the fact that you are working on your voice for the throat problems...

Most of the voice training uses muscles that haven't really been used before to contract the vocal cords....

But, I'm glad that you mentioned that you are seeing the doc next week and tell him/her...that was going to be my advice anyway....

And the runny nose.....Hummmmm..

Me, too...

I just blamed it on this miserable Ohio weather (0 degrees this morning) but, maybe there is more to it...

I'll look into that and post anything that I find!

Tell that doc!

HUGGS!

BINGO!

Right off the bat.....

Yes, dry weeping eyes are a common side effect of HRT or Premarin. There are more such side effects like thinning skin and runny nose which are not mentioned in the common leaflet that mentions the side effect of this drug. You can use eye coolant or drops to relax your eyes if you are facing this side effect.

Oh, and it wasn't just Premarin...it was estrogen in general...I just happened to grab this one!

I put "Runny Nose HRT" into Google and got a bunch of hits!

How 'bout that?

Hey Little Sis!

It is possible that you have an allergy to a component of one of the hormones that you are taking so tell the doctor - there are more than one type of hormones and the doctor will know or can find out which contain different bases - that is where the problem so often lies.

Drink lots of water until then - it will help if it is dehydration - that dries your throat and make your tongue swell so that could explain the tightness in your throat and then again lots of water helps flush the system.

Love ya,

Sally

Wonder if this is why I get a slight runny nose when I'm putting on makeup in the mornings.

Lol, now that was quick! Thank you DJ. :-) That may explain the runny nose. I am going to buy some claritin tommorrow and see how that goes with the runny nose. The swallowing problem I have not idea about what is causing that. My training of the voice is pretty much easygoing, not overtraining or anything. Will let everyone know what the doc says after I see him this coming thursday.

Hi everyone. :-) I saw the endocrinologist this last Thursday and talked to him about the side effects I was having. He said that the chills and feeling cold are common side effects of the hormones. The other problems I have been having are not side effects of HRT. He believes it might be an upper respitory infection. Will be scheduling an appointment with my primary doctor about this. My voice still goes by mid afternoon and into the night.

I had that going on with my last two partners who were 20 years older than me.  One of them looked older for her age as well.  I remember a couple times being in the grocery store a decade ago and having people ask "can I help you ladies with something?" and then I'd turn around with my red beard.  Well before I started transitioning, but my partner knew I was trans back then.   I struggle with this as well.  My music and political career can have a masculine edge to it that I don't like.  It's been really frustrating lately.  I don't like pushing myself on others or telling people what to do.  I've been running a website for 25 years and have virtually never tried to promote it or even look at any analytics.  I don't want to push it on anyone.  I put what I have on it and make it publicly available.  It's part of my production process.  It keeps me sane and if someone else can find it useful, then I'm happy to share.

I'm curious, but then if I am true to myself, I have a hard time being in crowds.  I love hearing great music, but being in an audience is such a turnoff for me that I don't go to concerts or bars.  I'm just very much a producer.  I actually like doing the dishes more than going to concerts because it's an active thing.

My therapist is trying a new tact. I've named my self protection self that ssays not eating or too much exercise because when I starting because oftrauma my protective self started and also at the time the name Shay came to me and is now part of my name.  It's not like having a split personality, just my primative self protection who is always there to help me. My therapist has Shay, me and him working as a team to assure her that I am safe and to start changing her role in my life so I protect me by eating right and exercising to maintain a heathy body. It is helping a little but we just started this a few weeks ago.

Good morning, everyone!!   Yesterday was lawn mower battery day. I've been nursing the battery on my Zero Turn mower for two weeks. It gave up the ghost when I stopped to refuel yesterday so I had to run over to the local shop to get a new one. And forgot my wallet so I had to drive home and back again.   Then, I was using the garden tractor with the bagger to pick up the clippings. I cut about 7 acres so it took me awhile. When I was done, I went to refuel it and, of course, it wouldn't start when I'd finished putting in the gas. I'm hoping it was just some corrosion on the cables - cleaned them up, gave it a quick charge and it started right up. We'll see if it will hold a charge now or turn out like the Zero Turn.   House cleaning day today. And then I'm going to just relax outside for a bit and enjoy one more warm day before our temps drop and rain comes in for the weekend.   Enjoy this beautiful day we've been given!!

Striking your head against the wall, you can lose 150 calories an hour. Blue color attracts mosquitoes in two times more than any other. Most toilet paper sold for home use in France is pink. In 2014, a missing woman on a vacation in Iceland was found when it was discovered that she was in the search party looking for herself. In 2005, Mark Zuckerberg unsuccessfully tried to sell Facebook for $75 million. Back then it was called TheFacebook. Strawberries can also be white or yellow, and some can even taste like pineapples! I attend a medical day-centre in Texas for needed medical services. It's religious oriented, so not gender fluid friendly. I of course dress 100% in female attire yet androgynous to keep both "them happy", and I really don't mind.    I of course am imposed rules that no other participant is bound by. The examples are the allowed size of my backpack, or how many visits per day I can see my Representative payee.  The gender neutral restroom use was a compromise that all off us have agreed to.  Not being able to wear tanks tops or shorts that aren't "Bermuda length" are other examples of where I am restricted more than any other participant. "Bra talk" is strictly forbidden, even though their doctor and occupational therapist were the ones that told me I needed support due to neck pain.    I found myself being reprimanded by staff three times yesterday for very petty details, and they have constantly pushed for me to remove myself from the program voluntarily. I am of course someone not welcomed in the program, but federal discrimination laws prevent them from removing me. They instead are just making life miserable with the hopes that I will leave on my own.
