Wig Questions

One of the things on the list I gave to my wife of "things I would like to try" included a wig. After some time has passed I had come to the conclusion that I would pass on this, since I really am not willing ot shave my facial hair, and as a result there isn't much point to make-up, and therefore a wig really wouldn't do any good either. However, my wife has an event coming up where she is supposed to wear a wig. She actually came up with the idea of her getting a wig that I like, so I can have it after she is done. This sounds like a decent idea, however it raises a question... size. My head is not that big, however it is bigger than her head. Does anyone have any suggestions about whether I should get a wig that fits me best and is big on her, or one that is tight on me and fits right on her?

Here is just one opinion. The wigs you're looking appear to be on the slightly lower end. The last two I bought each cost about 50% more (or maybe even more). I think one of the brands was Adolfo. They were/are fair. So a less expensive one will probably not be quite that 'quality'. Since your spouse is buying it for fun, I would suggest getting a slightly bigger size, since it shouldn't matter as much with her. Just size both your heads (which can be tricky, just ask the Mad Hatter) and get one that will fit you, since you'll probably be wearing it longer.

Also, many of the less expensive ones have a limited stretch band that may allow some variation.

I own a couple of wigs.....

Better quality....

But the first one I bought was basic black and made me look like Lolita (Heck, I'm 60)

So, I tried another and bought one that has about 25-30% gray and it really looks natural on someone my age!

And, some of the wigs in the $50-80 zone stretch quite a bit!

Spend at least $40 - wig sizes are usually adjustable! Get something close to your real hair color and you can comb your hair into it.

Wigs must be properly stored - or they look bad - so use a wig 'head form.'

And I CANNOT understand how to dress, and NOT remove the fascial hair! Several ladies here told me a year ago they just shaved their mustache! DANG

I NEVER wanted ANY fascial hair! I tweezered it out for 35 years! Just me I guess...

Keep in mind that you are going to wear that wig for hours. You are going to want to wear a wig that fits comfortably on you. Looking good and being in pain do not mix. Go with the fitting wig!!!!

OMG, Lizzy, I almost want to take the first layer of skin off, I give it my absolute best shave when I'm going to the trouble of doing my face. I hear HRT takes care of that, but I'm just not contemplating that.

Virtually any modern wig can be made to fit a larger head. I have been doing it for clients for over 20 years and have demonstrated it at least 100 times at seminars or conventions. Most all wigs today have an elastic back strip that can be cut and the adjustable strap that is usually attached can be used to hold the cut ends together. Takes 5 minutes if you can handle needle and thread.

When I owned wig stores many of my ethnic clients needed larger wigs, which this technique solved.

99% of all wigs are manufactured in one of three wif factorys in China. I had my own label, which was sewn into place between Rene of Paris and Forever Young wigs, it is just a label.
