So here in the UK it's called Gender Identity Disorder, in the US it's Gender Dysphoria

The first suggests a psychologic disorder, the latter suggests that the problem is simply that you're unhappy about it.

Would you support renaming it to something that better reflected that the problem is with our bodies, not our minds?

I though of a couple that I think would be better

Gender Alignment Disorder

or

Contrary Assigned Gender Disorder

Any suggestions?

It should be called something like mistaken physical sex disorder lol. It's actually still called gender identity disorder in the US too, gender dysphoria just refers to the feelings of your mental gender and physical sex not matching.

BITWBN=Born In The Wrong Body Nightmare would be soo much more appropriate. Because the struggles we go through are nightmares.

DFIS=Don't Fit In Syndrome because we are not widely accepted in society.

STACIAGBME=Screw Them All 'Cause I Am Gonna' Be Me Enlightenment= Because sooner or later many of us come to this conclusion.

What's wrong with gender identity disorder? It is a problem with gender identity...

The problem is that it implies our identity is disordered. Also, think about other disorders like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder- is this treated by letting the OC person be as obsessive as they want and just changing their body to allow for this? No, it comes by finding a way to manage the obsessive compulsive tendencies. By all rights, the treatment for Gender Identity Disorder isn't letting those sickos change their body- it's fixing them so that their gender identity is normal.

The disorder comes not from who we are, but what packaging we came in. The suggestiont aht our gender identity is wrong or broken is just insulting. There is nothing wrong with my gender, the problem is with my body.

Someone has proposed Gender Expression Deprivation Anxiety Disorder (GEDAD): it means the problem is with society not allowing you to express your true gender. So the solution is to educate society rather than treat us as patients. However, this name doesn't take into account the unhappiness over one's body.

Totally agree and I've always thought the same thing, I know my gender I'm not looking to change my gender.. maybe my gender roles to better fit in with society but not my actual gender. This is also why I laugh at GRS (Gender Reassignment Surgery) can you even surgically alter a gender? Sounds scary to me 0_o

I guess in some way or another with better wording GID could apply to people that have repressed their true gender all their life and they're the ones that have to in a sense do a 'double transition', both sex and gender. But Sex Reassignment Surgery to me makes more sense.

Anything that is linked to sex seems to be taboo, except maybe 'sex in the city' which doesn't really have much if any sex in it. *shrugs*. And because GID/SRS is centred around that evil three lettered word they run a mile while screaming pervert/freak in a shrilling voice.

Maybe Biological Sex Dysphoria, a medical condition that 'sometimes' requires HRT and/or SRS?

Gender Dysphoria is a bigger catagory.

It includes Cross Dressing, Transsexuality, and diversity such as Androgyny, Intersex conditions and other groups that dont identify as binary sexally or gender assigned.

Transsexuality is sometime described as 'transgender.' The second term is gentler to the ears, but as a MTF transsexual I really have a problem with either phrase. I KNOW my gender! Some of us take years to accept that we are a gender not matching the body, but I KNOW I AM FEMALE. I was 'assigned' male at birth based upon my apparent primarry sexal charascterisitic (penis between my legs). BUT the doctor's never tested for genetics, of other factors such as self-identity. I was one second old - they rushed immediately to look 'down there."

"It's a boy!"

They should have said, "apparently has male sexual organs!"

I was never a boy. Boy is gender defined. And the idea I am transgender (changing my gender) is not correct.

BUT

I am not changing my sex - in my own mind. I am 'reworking the body" - to make it align more with what I am. Surgically altering my primary sexual characterisitc (between my legs) is something I want - so to be complete - but I have ALREADY remodeled my body with hormones, with physical changes (long hair for example), and with my life style - WAY BEFORE surgery. So being called "transsexual," while more accurate, still seems a strange way to identify my condition.

I don't feel I have a Gender Identity Disorder either. I always knew I was female gender. It was a birth defect I was in an inapproriate body - my opinion anyway.

So 'DISORDER?" I don't fit the norm so it is ME WHO HAS A DISORDER? I have a condition, not a disorder.

Medical science has yet to determine why I am not in the norm, why my body was the wrong sex. So they throw me out into the 'mental health' catagory. Wash their hands. Move to something else...

The Mental Health science (should be called 'art' - very little 'science' involved) cannot seem to find I have a "mental deficiency or imbalance" to cause my condition - at least in the USA. Move to something else...

So I am in limbo. At least to others...

Personally - in a hundred years people will laugh at us old dead generation types. 'The answer was so "SIMPLE," they will say.

Well - meanwhile - I 'donno care nohow!' I am transitioning into what I am - I will look like what I am - I will BE what I am

Hell with what they wanna call it!

Opinionated Lizzy

How about they call it BYCG (becoming your correct gender) since that is what most of us want to do anyway. If you are not in that spectrum than you can still have the term gender dysphoria.

Ok, Gender Identity Syndrome. The definition of syndrome is a collection of related syptoms that may not cause an active disease condition, like Turners

Dictionary.com has this definition for syndrome

syn⋅drome [sin-drohm, -druhm] Show IPA

–noun 1. Pathology, Psychiatry. a group of symptoms that together are characteristic of a specific disorder, disease, or the like.

Syndrome sounds good. but lets get 'identity' out of their, for most of us by the time we're given the diagnosis we know exactly what our gender identity is, and it certainly isn't at fault.

That's why I quite liked the idea of Contrary Assigned, since the wrong gender was originally assigned to us, and the word contrary literally means completely wrong. You couldn't use Opposite for example because that would ignore all our friends who aren't at polar ends or binary.

I have no problem with the identity, since it is the difference between out brain gender identity and out physical gender assignment that creates the problem. We identify ourselves one way and society(based stictly on anatomy) identifies us another way.

But you're happy with the inference that it is our identity that should be corrected?

Even if it's not how it's generally treated, it's just another excuse for people to willingly misunderstand it and decide that we must be crazy.

The one problem I have with GID (Gender Identity Disorder) is the word "Disorder"...

Along with the word Transsexual....

Both put us in a bad light in the eyes of the general public...

"Disorder" sounds like a mental health issue...

And Transsexual...sex it that part heard first by most..

We need terms that do not put us at a disadvantange from the start!

HUGGS!

If you sit and think about it sam, what we are correcting is the way that society identifies us, therefore it is our identity, or socieity's perception of it that we are correcting.

Those who don't respect our identity usuall never will, what we're actually doing is trying to hide any other possible interpretation from them other than the one we desire. This is why the need to pass is so great and why we feel under pressure to have SRS when we don't all want or feel we need it.

This problem is supposed to be about correcting our bodies to the point of us feeling comfortable with ourselves, not for anyone else's benefit or comfort.

Yeah that^^^^

It is us that is diagnosed. It is us that receives the treatment etc etc. It is the public that assumes the worst of us based on misinformation.

Has anyone heard of Intersexed people? Their bodies are referred to as "Disorders of Sex Development", or DSD. Many have been put through non-consensual surgeries as infants to make them "normal" and have been lied to by parents and/or doctors their entire life. That's extremely traumatic for them. I was trying to explain intersexed to someone who doesn't know baout it, and as soon as they heard this- they instantly assumed that their bodies were broken. They agreed that because their bodies are broken, fixing their bodies is the right thing to do, no matter how the person feels about it.

That's exactly what people do when they hear GID. They hear Gender Identity combined with Disorder. I don't care how the medical professionals who know what the treatment for GID really is- those people already know. But to a casual observer, GID sounds like "Your gender identity is what's broken. You're really cisgendered, just with a broken gender identity that can be fixed". And because GID sounds so fancy and official, they'll believe that over most arguments otherwise.

SRS should be changed to SCS for Sexual Correction Surgery. o.o

Maybe DID could be changed to something like, SHD for severe hormonal disorder? I don't know, can't think of a good one for DID...

Not of people usually, but places have a "color sense" to me.  Not exactly visual, but like a feeling.  Almost a taste or sometimes tactile.    My home, and the temple of my faith community both have a strong feeling of "silver."  A tasteable, nearly tactile radiance...it means safety, and I seek it out.  It kind of transfers to people associated with those places, like my husband.  I knew he was good the moment I met him.  Some places have a color sense like fire, a combination of red and orange.  As you might expect, it is an exciting or dangerous feeling.  Attractive in a way.  Part of me is drawn toward it, another part of me is skittish of it.  Other places have a blue/green color sense, which can be iridescent toward purple-ish.  Its peaceful and calm.    What I really don't like is a sickly, greenish-gray color.  I can't even describe it fully.  The sense is slimy, slick, cold and revolting.  To me, it is a feeling of intense danger about a place or a person.  I'm usually more oblivious to the other color senses, but this one grabs my attention.  To me, it is associated with pure evil.    One of my strongest impressions of the evil color it happened at a natural spring in a state park near where I live.  I was walking around with a friend and I felt it, and she thought I was totally crazy.  I wanted to leave so bad, just terrified.  Thankfully she followed me out.  I only found out later that a murderer had escaped from prison and was recaptured there...he had been living near the spring, and we were maybe within 200 yards of him.  My color sense probably saved our lives.

Not exactly.  Me alone - I'm helpless and can hardly do anything.  But with my partners I'm protected and supported, and a lot more things are possible for me.    My husband teaches a lesson to his kids when they fight, I've seen him do this a couple of times.  He'll hand them a bundle of sticks tied together, and tell the kids to try to break it.  Of course, it doesn't work.  Then he takes the bundle apart, and tells them to break the sticks one by one.  One person alone is easily overwhelmed or broken.  Two or more people together can stand firm against adversity.

When I joined it was purely a play on Maybe. Mae happens to have a couple letters in common with my given name and I started using it when introducing myself to strangers. Since then, actually yesterday, when I caught up with an old friend and told her about my transition she thought she heard "Maeve" when I said "Mae". I could still use Mae as a nickname, it works well with my mother's name as a middle name (she died in 2019 and I love the idea of connecting with her memory more), and my initials wouldn't change if I change my name. So, Maeve it will likely be unless something better comes along. ;)

I've not had a lot of involuntary action in that department and I'm 6mo in. After 3mo. my T was under 30. My doc wanted labs mid-cycle (3-4 days after my shot) oddly, but I am going to insist on getting trough numbers to determine if T is pushing back when serum E is low. I almost felt like I was going to have MW yesterday morning when I woke up (day of my shot), so I get where your thoughts are on the subject. It would be good to know how long that suppression lasts, not that T&E levels are complete indicators--my doctor doesn't seem to have any plans to check for the broader spectrum of metrics I see a lot on forums like SHBG, etc.

Take two   blood letting is complete it took two of them pesky little mosquitoes.   our dog came to us mostly potty trained. She had a few “I can’t wait” moments but for the most part she was good.  She learned to ask th be let out. We had a bell on the door and taught her to ring the bell.  Then she learned how to open the door herself.  As long as it wasn’t locked out she’d go.  We had her trained to a hidden fence and collar she would go to the limit and sit and wait for us to tell her it was ok. She has always responded to verbal commands or my whistles.   Oh and there are obvious negatives about a dog knowing how to open doors.  She would disappear and we’d suddenly see her out the window.  Or we’ would let her out and suddenly realize she was sitting with us.  She never learned to close the doors, only open then.
