didn't know if anyone had heard, but apparently in Ironton, Ohio, it is considered illegal to crossdress in public

Is that a law or just something that was told to you? I find it hard to believe that they could make that against the law.

Just a guess, but probably that law came about a number of years ago and was most likely a part of a large number of changes to the city charter, and no one paid much attention to it except the ones who snuck it in.

I've read about a lot of laws on the books of various government bodies, some which were enacted over 100 years ago and relate to livestock, or Sunday 'Blue' laws (at one time practically everything was against the law on Sunday, now in many places you have to wait until noon to buy liquor, sort of silly if you think about it and what's served at communion).

What bothers me most is I'm also guessing that this law is aimed almost strictly at mtf people (who are trying to look feminine) because society is pretty accepting of females dressing in male clothes. It reeks of bigotry because I suspect it is associating cd and ts with male sexual predators. Interesting tho that it's all right to wear priest's vestments, isn't it.

A law is valid until it is repealed or challenged - and most judges at the 'night court' level aren't going to question it and probably no one in Ironton has decided to challenge it.

I wonder how arrests and many fines have been levied against violators of that particular statute.

That is why us MTF's have a "Carry Letter" at all times..

In some places in the country you can still be arrested for wearing the clothes of the "Opposite Gender" because it is looked on as a disguise!

At least on the books....

These are archaic laws.....and many never come off the books, so it may not even be relevant these days, yet, can sill be enforced it they want to use it!

There is a difference between "considered illegal" and "actually illegal"

Iowa is one of the few places which has trans non-discrimination laws on the statutes.

I suggest you check it out properly before going on hearsay. I do know a towns specific laws do not ever override state or federal rulings.. not when it comes to civil rights anyway.
