At the end of November i had my legal name change, before Christmas i was getting junk mail in my old name so for the fun of it on several letters i wrote return to sender, this person no longer lives here, well i guess my mail person thought that i moved and never verified that i had in fact moved, a couple weeks ago when i was at the bowling center where i worked part time the manager hands me my W2 that got sent back with a label saying this person left no forwarding address, at the time i thought it was a strange thing to happen but shrugged it off as a mistake, then today my mail order pharmacy called, my meds were returned with the same label, i had to explain to them my new name and all that bs, they are shipping it to Paula this time, in their system my name has been changed to Paula but this script was in my old name and shipped with the old name on it.

Time to call the post office and find out what is going on, i talked to the postmaster and explained what happened, she said my mail carrier thought i moved, but the thing is i been getting mail in both names, she remembered it cause he asked if there was a forwarding address on file, so i hope it is taken care of, she said the mail in both names will be delivered from now on, just wonder how many other important things were returned to sender that might have been important.

Ah all the fun things that can happen with a name change.

I'm just about to get my name changed in a month or 2. I'm thinking that I'll let the important places know but not really care about junk mail. Having the wrong name on it will just make it go into the trash even faster.

Like your bank accounts, credit cards, car title, Deed to your house, all of your insurance policies, Social Security card and driver's license to get it started on to medical records with how many doctors now?

It is one of the most difficult steps on the path because you have no control at all.

Just about every conceivable thing has been changed, tomorrow the title to the car, the last thing is the name on the title of the house and that can wait till the weather is better.

My advise to anyone doing a name change is make a list of everything that has your name on it, then after the name change is finalized contact everyone, service companies changed it over the phone, most everyone else wants at least a copy of your name change decree and others will want an original with the seal, get 4 or 5 of those, and yet others want to see you in person. I took 2 days off from work, day one was my court appearance for the name change then to as many local places i could, bank, insurance etc. day 2 was contacting places on the phone. check them off as you get them done.

If you are like me there will be some you missed, just got to go with the flow.

Oh and do not send junk mail back like i did.
