How Do I Get to Know Me

For I was born with the body of a he and a soul of a she

Soon I learned that my nature as a she was wrong for a he

My behavior as a she led to ridicule as a he

I learned rather quickly my instincts couldn't be trusted and I created a he that was not me

I gave him a complete personality

I taught him to hunt, fish and more

He joined the wrestling team and earned some awards

All to prove to the world I was a he as they see

I joined the Marines and awards I received

And married I did just to prove it once again

I'm a he and no more, I joined the deceived

And she was gone and new trades he learned and did follow

Mechanic and electrician perfect jobs for a he

Happiness faded as I started each new job a little more jaded

That personality I created so long ago began to crumble and show

The she inside me started to grow

I was adrift at sea no currents to follow

All these dreams, wants and desires of he would never do for a she

I look deep inside and say to she "you are me and I want to see where you'll lead us; what paths will you choose; what trouble will you make?"

Of this I am sure I will be happier as a she that's me then a he that will never be
