Can I Have Your Opinions?

I'm pretty sure si is not a transwoman. Si calls hirself a male on his myspace: Johny Boy. Well, I know a gender queer who calls herself a male on her social networking accounts though she normally presents as female, at least outside of work. Maybe si is gender queer or maybe si is a crossdresser. Regardless, I think it is wrong for hir to call herself a t****y. Still, I don't think we should judge hir. I mean, haven't we all been judged ourselves? What right do we have to judge someone else because they are different? God knows we have been told by some in the gay community that we are making gays look bad. We have no right to do that to someone else.

I really have no opinion on this person, I believe that everyone should be able to express themselves anyway that they feel comfortable - that is what I am after, sure I am looking for more of a traditional female image than that.

Some people want attention and some of us want to blend in - there is no reason for any of us to get excited about the actions of one person, there will always be oddballs in every walk of life - you should never judge but if you must never judge a group by its fringe elements.

Tolerance should be given as well as received.

Love ya,

Sally

...before this escalates much further, can we agree to disagree?

Yeah I had no intention of saying anything about it beyond my last post. I wasn't really trying to argue or getting mad or anything, I just wanted to state clearly what I disagreed with and what I did agree with because we did agree on some points.

Otherwise we wouldn't need therapy to filter them out (well, except for dealing with the emotions that Johnny-Boy seems to lack concerning her body).

I really disagree with this- therapy should only make sure that there are no underlying problems (abuse, etc) that could cause the feelings, that the person is aware of the risks, etc, aren't likely to regret it, and that they're mentally and otherwise in a good place for surgery.

I really hate that right now therapy screens by gender. It means that extremely gender dysphoric non-binary people, like myself, have to lie about who they are to get what they need. It means that non-transgendered people who might want to transition partially either have to do the same or suffer in silence. Some women want flat chests, the only way for them to get a mastectomy is to pretend to me a man. It's the same for women who want a hysterectomy- while a trans guy can get one without too much hassle even when he's young, women aren't allowed to because "what if you want a baby?". Why do trans men have more of a right to decide what body they want than cis women?

All that therapy does, currently, is support the social gender dichotomy that causes us so much problem and make it even harder for people who aren't "normal" to get what they need. And it really doesn't "screen" anything. I know genuinely transsexual people who have gotten booted from the system because they refused to lie and the system where they are decided that gay trans men aren't allowed to transition. To all the non-straight people here on Laura's- how great a screening process is that? You aren't "really" transsexual because you aren't straight! Sure glad we have such experts around to tell us who we "really" are.

wow some one needs to get this person a pair of clown shoes and a bright red wig its one of the reason i rarely look at trans media

1: i normally feel my IQ drop 10 points

2: weep tears of sorrow that this is the face of transsexuality most people judge us by

3: get the over whelming urge to beat some one with a stick

4: the need to vomit after wards is annoying

just a few of the reason i normally avoid these types of videos lol

Some still do the whole "gays can't transition" thing? My therapist says that isn't done anymore. Maybe those transsexuals had a quack as therapists. They should try again. No decent therapist would do that. I know that the non-binary thing is an issue for some therapists but there are exceptions. My gender therapist is very non-binary friendly and at the transgender conference I was at there was a gender therapist talking about transitioning for non-binaries. I agree that there should be no bothering of determining gender. We should stick with trying to make people feel more at home with their bodies, not making it match up to society's ideas.

I think the problem is that he's sexually active so they're like "You're taking the female role in sex so you're clearly a woman", which is equally BS, really. It basically means anyone who's married can't transition...

He did try again several times, every person he could, but this is in the UK so he's limited. He can't afford to pay for this- and even if he could there'd be no guarantee that he'd get a better experience with a for-pay therapist.

I also know someone in the UK who transitioned to Neutrois on the NHS. With the UK there is a serious postcode lottery- you're limited in who you can go to and it can be either REALLY good (non-binaries can transition) or REALLY bad (gay trans people can't transition) but it seems like it's mostly in between.

Eurgh, I know. Like that TRANSform me thing... My dad thought they were drag queens at first, and they do seem a bit more flamboyant than most trans women I've seen. Maybe that's how fashion people dress...

Maybe she was just trying to show what people think about her? "I'm a fake, I put on makeup to FOOL you!!" just screams sarcasm to me, for some reason? I don't really know, though. It could go either way.

I'm not so sure about that. I don't think we should really be going on any witch hunts and trying to define who is and who isn't "really" transgender based on their attitudes. There are flamboyant people of all orientations and gender identities out there. I think what we ought to be focusing on is more the fact that people attach the stupid stereotypes to us, whereas when a straight guy beats his wife we don't start calling all straight men women beaters. Perhaps a better example would be when a straight woman wears orange jeans, we don't turn around and say all straight women love orange jeans. The problem is the stereotypes themselves - not necessarily the eccentric actions of a few individuals.

Normally I would agree with you, but the difference is that society is accustomed to sweeping spousal abuse under the rug. It's commonplace. Transpeople, on the other hand, get peoples attention, because we're, for the moment, almost alien. Like a car wreck to some people. They'll soak up all the crazy media and assume that's what it's all about. I've seen it. That ticks me off, knowing that THIS is what most are thinking when they think of transsexuality.

Yep, that video was what sent me off the deep end and got me starting this thread in the first place.

I'm all for freedom to express who you are, but if all you are is a mockery of someone else you maybe ought to reexamine yourself.

I visited the twitter page. Unfortunately with these situations, I don't know what to say. This isn't the first (nor last) occurrence of an individual who clearly seems to be transsexual but isn't. The general impression that I get is that he's a crossdressing fetishist who uses the label "transsexual." Now maybe I'm not one to comment because I do not use MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, or any other flavor of social networking, so I don't know how other girls tend to post. But just looking at that one page alone, I see constant mentions of wanting to fornicate various people. Not to mention the promotion for his/her album entitled, "Trannylicious". Don't forget the "Super T-----" shirt either. Everything to me just screams "fetish, fetish, fetish."

Maybe I'll try rose-colored lenses instead of jade for my glasses next time.

After watching one of his Youtube videos, I retract any confusion I had with my previous post. He's a revile piece of gutter trash and no one should waste their time giving him views. He's obsessed with sex, drinking, and drug use, and he just loves the attention people give him because he's wild and crazy. Attention-you-know-what, nothing more.

Forget what I said. Not sarcasm. Honestly, I wish these people would find something better to do with their time. If he were really transgender, then he should learn that his videos are just making it worse for him - for us.

Obviously he isn't though..

But then we would still be giving him views.

I think I'm just going to block him and try to erase it from my memories.

It would be fitting if he took a dip in the ocean while he is up there in Massachusetts and the great white eats him. Maybe it is just me, but tell me again how this guy is supposed to be a great actor?? I just do not get that vibe. It is mind of matter. It is my mind and he doesn't matter.

Slide rules ruled. Wow, that takes me back to the 70s. We actually had to solve problems with longhand in some situations. No calculators where I was. They were just beginning to emerge. My dad had a simple calculator that could add, subtract, multiply, and divide. That was state of the art for the time. Reading was actually required to get through school. There were no PCs, no YouTube, no Google. VHF antennas ruled. Few folks had cable. I would take that all over again.

Welcome @Arushi!  My opinion is there is no right/wrong about this.  You know, it's natural for people to perceive you differently and act differently if you present differently than you normally do.  My Zen meditation background makes it easy for me to just do my own thing, but you know, if you go out in public you also have to deal with other people and their thing.  That reminds me of the stoic books I've been reading the last few years that talk about being in a "forum".  So this is a virtual forum here and being here was a step in bringing my transgender side out into the public.   Hugs, Lydia

@Arushi - Actually, to put it more simply, a friend of mine had a phrase that became very important to me.    How can it be wrong when it feels so right?
    • Timi
Thank you for sharing, @Arushi. I'm hearing how in your element you feel when dressed as a woman. I think that the feelings you have are the best answer to your questions.    In my journey, I'm finding that once I started opening up to myself and to other people, things started to change within me, sometimes unpredictably. Some of the best advice that I have received is to be gentle to myself.    I am glad you found this group and I hope you find support and community here.    -Timi

"We have no knowledge of who the hell we are, and if we don't get it back soon we're all going to die," Dreyfuss said in a video captured at the event.   Richard Dreyfuss's comments on women and LGBTQIA+ community at Jaws event prompts cinema to apologise - ABC News   His shrill comments have exposed him as someone who has lost the plot.

You are so welcome Charlize. I think it is too late for that hope, though. On release of the Cass review the New York Times called Hilary Cass "the hero we need in these times". I hate to think what the right is going to do with this, and I know it has already been referred to by those justifying bans on gender-affirming care in the US.

Bit of a mini-vacation for us starting tomorrow. Going to Melbourne and seeing the Odd Couple play and staying over, then flying to Adelaide on Friday and going to the soccer that night, a friendly game between the Australian women's side and China. Back home on Saturday. It's how we roll. 😎
