My Girlfriend's Convinced She'll Never Pass...

Ryan and I have this semi-argument a lot. She's convinced she'll never pass even though I've given her the same facts over and over again: "You have high cheekbones and an understated jawline. The only problem is your brows. Everything else, HRT can easily fix." (She complains about her "gross hand veins" a lot, and I personally don't think they're gross at all...but given that my mother has thick skin and very weathered hands I might be biased.) Even when our mutual MtF friend, who's already mostly transitioned, mentioned that she envied Ryan's looks when she first met her...Ryan still won't believe me.

So I'm asking you folks. XD

What do you all think? She's crazy, right? :P

She looks girly enough. It's hard to tell from the horizontal position. If they were upright, I could give a much better accessment.

I think you're right. I think she will be very pretty. She has lovely eyes, a nice, feminine mouth, and good facial features.

Now, if I can just get the knot out of my neck, I'll be fine.

I just rotated the photos with Photobucket's editor thingy...they should be upright when you click for the full version, now.

Yep! Sorry for the inconvenience earlier.

Your Eve's Apple, so to speak?

I wish you the best of luck getting that taken care of. The upside to being a girl is you get to throw on a nice silk scarf. My 9th grade Latin teacher had one for virtually every day of the week. :]

Reminds me of when I noticed a patch of overlooked hair on Ryan's neck she said, "yeah, I'm afraid of shaving over my Adam's apple."

I was like, "YOU HAVE AN ADAM'S APPLE?! SINCE WHEN?!"

"Uh...puberty?"

"...Oh! Right..."

Thanks for taking the time to leave your opinions, ladies. I really appreciate it. (And I'm sure Ryan will, too. :P)

What all of you young ones have is this wonderful advantage to transition so wonderfully well :)

Since your bodies are still forming, you can intervene and redirect your growth.

Just about a week ago and I watched CNN. I saw this incredibly beautiful woman (Donna Rose) talking about how and why she transitioned. She bravely showed pictures of herself when she was David. When Donna was David, David was a "man's man". David was strong, burly, played football, strong as an Ox, and looked it too. To see her now, proved to me that no matter where you start, you can transition beautifully :)

Your friend has everything going fo her. Youth, already with feminine features. Get this girl into therapy and HRT pronto!!! She is going to be dynamite!!!

Before I transitioned, I felt it would be absolutely impossible for me to "pass" without facial surgery. I, too, was concerned about my forehead and brow. "Neanderthal," I'd think, "I'll just look like a neanderthal."

I was wrong. Hormones, voice, and facial hair removal work wonders. Despite my not so feminine brow, the rest of my face made up for it. After finishing facial hair removal and being on HRT about a year, I found it quite difficult to pass as male even if I tried... even wearing a men's suit and tie. I went fulltime before having any surgery, much to my surprise. And life sent me an unexpected gift making FFS possible... which took care of the brow problem!

Anyway, lots of us have been in that position. It's a big leap of faith that you have to take. It can be scary. It's good that she has someone supportive like you.

Looking at her pics, I'd say not only that she'll pass, but will be very pretty. The overall femininity of her facial structure is great.

As for the hands... while this isn't universal, many trans women find that HRT makes veins less prominent. That was definitely the case for me. After 3 years on HRT, phlebotomists can no longer find a sufficiently visible vein in my arm to draw blood... they always have to use my hand... and the veins in my hand are significantly less prominent.

I don't post public pictures of myself pre-transition, but if you think it would help her, I'd be happy to email you some "before and after" shots. I know that when I was just starting to consider transitioning, seeing what was possible for others made that "leap of faith" much easier.

I think she looks great Nicodeme.

The eyebrows are easily fixed with some waxing, so no problems there.

She has great eyes, nice and open and not set deep like mine are.

Once she starts HRT she should look fab!

Love and *hugs*

She has waay more of a girly look to start with than I did. She's seriously underestimating what the hormones will do.

She'll be very pretty and she shouldn't worry.

Hugs,

Becky

Not only will she pass, but she'll be pretty. I think the only think holding her back is the 5 o'clock shadow, and that will be gone with electrolesis.

I gotta take her to the cryobank first, to save the genes for those eyes everyone's talking about. XD

Oh... and just to put the "veiny hands" thing in perspective... LOTS of women have that... have you seen how veiny Angelina Jolie is??

Thanks. I've been thinking of dragging her to a salon and letting them work a little brow-taming magic on her. That's honestly the only thing that keeps her from passing aside from her facial hair growing back obscenely fast. (Like, seriously. She shaves right before she starts the 7-hour drive to visit me...she's already as bristly as most males are who haven't shaved for a day.)

And I love her eyes...easily my favorite part of her. :3

Exactly. She has this fear of not being pretty or whatever so some part of her doesn't quite wanna try. And I'm like WHAT THE HECK NOT EVEN CISGIRLS LOOK THAT GREAT HALF THE TIME YOU'VE GOT A HEAD START IN ALL OF THIS.

She's silly. She's lucky that she's so adorable about it, 'cause otherwise I'd probably smack her. XD

you want to see a change, I should scan and post a pic of me circa 1990

If you're interested in doing that, I'm sure it'd benefit her to see it. No pressure, though.

They're even more epic in person! They're like tractor beams, that drag you in and consume you, wrapping you up in this dimension of warm snuggles and...

...well at least that's what happens when I look into them. :3

For pre-hormones, she is looking awesome. I can't say she passes with flying colours, but only the really lucky ones do pre-hormones. Once she takes estrogen, she will pass great.

I really don't think that's a good idea. The unity of the LGB and T community is historic and has been central for both groups rights. And the vast majority of people advocating for splitting the two are transphobic LGB's who are broadly condemned by the community anyway.

A bit late in updating, but I've had the draft of the official diagnosis and have (as yet unconfirmed) an endo consultation next month.   Next to arrive will be the supporting documentation for my new passport application for my correct gender.  This will then be my official ID for all the other updates - bank, tax, payroll etc.   It just feels good to to be proactive again rather than waiting for other people to move at a leisurely pace.

I like ELF brand cosmetics, I can pick them up at JC Penny.    I wear makeup everyday, but mostly just very light makeup.

Hi Mae Be, whenever it comes to makeup, there are so many different bands to choose from. Picking out the right makeup comes with trial and error, until you find one that works for you and blends well with your skin tone, some makeup products can leave the skin feeling oily. It's a good idea to look at the labels on the makeup product to know what the creators put in the makeup, just in case skin allergies. Once you found the makeup brand, you can add it to your shopping list, good luck

To be fair I’m pretty lost when it comes to makeup technique. I’ve watched videos, but I have no idea what works for or would help my features. So I just bungle along, hoping I don’t look terrible.
