How Late Is Too Late For Hormones

Milly

Recommended Posts

I'm 23 turning on 24 and just wondering if the hormones will have a significant effect on me. I'm sorry if this is asked alot, I just don't know where to turn. I've known about my situation since I was a kid but I was and still am terrified to come out in texas. My mind is breaking and I really can't take this much longer.

I'll try to watch this thread the best I can but with family walking in at any given time I have to be careful. <_<

first let me welcome you to the forums and remind you to read the rules and all of that important business stuff.

The I would say, "I certainly hope not!'

I started on my HRT in August only three weeks before my 58th birthday - they are working for me.

We have a lot of members who started older than that and the results are sometimes unbelievable - no you have not waited too long but the dysphoria just keeps getting worse so sooner is better than later.

Have a seat and I'll bring you some hot cocoa and a plate of fresh baked cookies while we wait for the others to drop by and say hello.

Welcome to our family.

Love ya,

Sally

I don't know, with the amount of questions I have this could get derailed and off topic very quickly :D I just feel that if I wait too long it will be too late and since I am fairly tall, 6 foot or so I will look odd. I just want to blend in and get on with my life. It feels like I am trapped.

Thanks for the support btw, it makes me feel better now that I can talk about this a bit more. :)

I don't know enough about the effectiveness of HRT well enough to help there, but have you considered moving to Austin? I have family down there, and from what they've told me and what I've seen from visiting, Austin has a large LBGT community and if very progressive compared to the rest of Texas. Plus, it's a really nice town. Maybe your situation right now won't allow for it, but it's something worth thinking about...

I am from a town near San Antonio, Texas and yes it can be scary coming out sometimes but it is more important to watch your surroundings and keep yourself safe. Hormones will affect you like the others have said no matter your age(age 37 and no complaints her to say the least, lol). Most of us are tall usually except those that are extremely lucky to be short, lol. My own height is 6 foot 1 inch and I have gotten over my height but it still bugs me that I will usually get noticed out of a crowd due to height no matter weather I look different or not it(consider it a given that for good or bad when a guy or girl is tall they will get more attention, lol). The first thing you usually have to do it look for a good gender therapist that can help you talk about everything and just be honest with and let them get to know you since the process usually takes having one and helps plan and talk about everything you may go through and to also eventually give you a letter of recommendation for hormones. The town I live in is redneck central but I will still do what I must but I tend to make sure to not put myself in any bad situations. Good luck and all.

It's never too late to start HRT. There is no cut-off age where if you don't start by a certain time you're doomed.

Oh hai lizzie! Thanks for all the great answers, sorry didn't check it yesterday much, family was hovering around computer like hawks.

I feel a lot better knowing that I don't have to panic and do everything all at once.

Honey.....

I'm 60, started at 58......

been on HRT 14 months and I'm totally passable when I dress and go out...

Lizzy is 62..she is 100% passable and she's 6' 2" (a real beauty!)

Remember, it's never too late to be you!

Oh my gosh 24 years old huh,

I was so close to starting when I was that age, but because of lifes different intrusines, and that I didn't have the support I didn't go through with what I had to do. Now at 43- years-old i'm just going to start HRT, looking back I really regret not starting in my early 20's, My life would of been a lot better and happier if I did.

Melissa....

Honey, I wish that I had started at 43...I would of already been 20 years in my correct gender...

But, let me tell you something....

Feel as you would about wishing you had started in your 20's ...I do, too....

But, never never dwell on regrets over it....

It will only drive you crazy...we can't change the past!

No one seemed to pay attention to me other than a young woman who complimented me on my skirt and an older gentleman who smiled at me as we passed each other.

Wow, I guess it’s the dat to be in trouble.  I’ve been hit twice by the ASM today and it’s my day off.  Why didn’t you, followed latter with a where is the.  Made me realize that I do t want to continue working long enough to pay for it. I guess I’ll just to have to stick with my 20 year old car for now.   I suppose sooner or later only one of us won’t be able to drive anymore.  Since I am older you might think it would be me but at this time i am the one that does all the driving except when she goes to church or the store when I’m at work.  She hasn’t driven anywhere since February and hasn’t driven more than 10 miles in perhaps a year.  Yet the “good” car was purchased for her not for me because she couldn’t drive the Jeep which we bought strictly for her because she wanted it.  But it turned out I was the one that really liked it.  Can’t win.

Had one like that one time that would bite you on occasion.  Got rid of that thing quickly.

I have been told that I "pass" better than I realize. I hope that is true.

Good morning :)   I have coffee today, but the cup keeps leaking (I guess the cap isn't able to fully seal or something), so I keep having to wipe up the sides lol   Almost finished all my missing work for school, which means if I do a bit more work, I should be out of trouble with my parents (not even that bad of trouble compared to when I was younger, more just an annoyance haha)

Good morning 😘   Finished packing up my kitchen and pantry for fumigation today. I also modified my backpack to make it day-centre compliant.  I was able to get almost 2 hrs sleep last night, so I'll survive. 😑

I'll be going to some Pride events as a spectator.  Maybe marching in a parade if they have open participation.    The event we'd prefer to go to is held in a small town with a population of less than 600.  They have a parade through all three blocks of their downtown area.  Unfortunately, this year it is on the same day as a memorial service for a friend who passed away this winter, so we'll have to miss it.  So our second choice is a larger town, population about 9000, a bit farther away.    And we are keeping our eyes open for other events in the general area as they are announced.   I dress a bit flashier than normal, with some trans bling, such as rainbow or trans flag earrings, a trans symbol pendant, and a handheld trans flag to wave.  Political sentiment is turning against us, but public sentiment here is still strongly on our side, so getting out and showing the flag, both literally and figuratively, is important.

I had that going on with my last two partners who were 20 years older than me.  One of them looked older for her age as well.  I remember a couple times being in the grocery store a decade ago and having people ask "can I help you ladies with something?" and then I'd turn around with my red beard.  Well before I started transitioning, but my partner knew I was trans back then.   I struggle with this as well.  My music and political career can have a masculine edge to it that I don't like.  It's been really frustrating lately.  I don't like pushing myself on others or telling people what to do.  I've been running a website for 25 years and have virtually never tried to promote it or even look at any analytics.  I don't want to push it on anyone.  I put what I have on it and make it publicly available.  It's part of my production process.  It keeps me sane and if someone else can find it useful, then I'm happy to share.

I'm curious, but then if I am true to myself, I have a hard time being in crowds.  I love hearing great music, but being in an audience is such a turnoff for me that I don't go to concerts or bars.  I'm just very much a producer.  I actually like doing the dishes more than going to concerts because it's an active thing.
