I really do think that calling our gender a disorder and labelling it a mental illness does a serious disservice tot he community. You don't treat mental illnesses with physical treatments- you cure them or help the patient to live with the problems. That's not the right treatment for trans people at all! People have tried that and it ends miserably. Trying to get rid of a vital part of who we are would cause horrific amounts of damage.

If it has to be considered a disease- it's our body that should be considered diseased/disordered/broken and in need of fixing, not our identity.

I do not like anyone thinking that I am transgendered/transsexual. Those are terms that I simply never want used to describe me even if it happens to be a part of my past. I don't want to be reminded of it. I've never felt "transsexual", I've only felt like a female.

Not passing 100% is not an option for me. I will do whatever it takes to make sure no one can tell I have a trans past.

You can be female and transgendered/sexual. It doesn't make you any less female- I've seen some people who'd argue it'd make you more female, but that's just an opinion.

I was told to check the box by my Dr when I applied for my FAA medical , and it was promptly denied.

I had to jump through many hoops to get it back.

I renewed my drivers license the other day and one of the questions they asked is if you have been diagnosed with a mental disorder.

That question is also on many other things from registering for a gun to serving jury duty.

Any way all I can say is GID is not a mental disorder, and I'd advise anyone with it to check No when it comes to have you ever had a mental disorder, if GID is all you have.

I think that if most of us expressed out true feelings as children we would have probably been taken to a quack pot therapist or doctor who would have insisted we be forced to do things generally done by our assigned gender.

I guess I wasn't smart enough to keep my mouth shut when I was a child/teen because that is exactly what happened to me - the quack psychiatrist who 'pronounced me gay', suggestions that I be given testosterone to 'make a man of me', threats of being institutionalized for being 'delusional', and a constant barrage of emotional and psychological abuse for rebelling against my supposed gender. Through the 1960's I was constantly pushing the limits and on the very edge of being forced into some kind of 'treatment' or other.

If it hadn't been for all those young people who made it an issue in the 1960's and pushed for appropriate treatment we wouldn't have HRT and SRS today.

I am with Vanna on this point - never check mental illness if GID is all you have - it is considered a medical condition by the AMA so I go with their opinion!

As to Brenda's comment about Ashley being the loveliest lady by far - I am hurt - I have been working so hard for that image of myself and now she has come along to ruin it!

Seriously Ashley - you are a woman, a very lovely woman and you are the only one who does not see that - however when you are in public people perceive what you are projecting - if you are confident in your belief that you are a woman that is all they will see - trans is a non issue.

We are all too hard on ourselves - give yourself the same love you offer to others.

Love ya,

Sally

I don't know what to do. At this point, I'm not sure if I'm even any happier than before I transitioned. I try to be happy. I try to tell myself that everything is okay and that no one can tell with me but then I look in the mirror and I see something that I think is masculine about my face and I start to panic.

Uh Ash,

I think we all have that affliction. Tooselfcriticalittis .It's a terrible affliction and one that strikes

both the men and the women, the boys and the girls.Without some serious FFS for the ladies, and

time for the facial hair and voice to deepen for the guys, we all have this malady. Most days I am

so freakin confident I look like I feel. Others,I see(him)very clearly, and my confidence takes a blow.

But,we who live in fulltime role, have to deal with this. My girlfriends told me the day will come when

you don't see others reaction, don't care what anyone may think. They were right. As each year rolls

by, you change incrimentally, becoming more of the woman you now are,in very subtle ways, until all that anyone see's is a woman. It's in the way you stand, hold your head, gesture, talk. It all adds up to the person they see will only be the/a woman named Ashley. Not who you may have been, just Ashley.

Hugs Doll,

Angie

It's been touched on in another thread, the perception that the folks who scream loudest in favor of free speech are also the loudest in wanting to stifle the freedom of people not like themselves.

I wonder if the LGBTQI+ umbrella should be split? Create separate entities for LGB and TQI+ folk?    I have no doubt that some cis het people probably think that sexuality and gender identity are the same thing, for whatever the reason, not necessarily willful ignorance. It would be natural for such people to observe that both LGB and T folk are under the same umbrella, so they must be the same, right?   Just as (and I know I'm making some pretty big assumptions in this post) some cis gay folk would think that the LBGTQI+ umbrella is pie - give trans people a slice, and somehow, they will miss out. Just like cis het folk might also think that their lives are somehow being diminished by allowing trans people to have basic human rights.

Suppressing your emotions because you’re afraid of them can be bad for your physical and mental health. Here’s what to do instead. When a toddler feels a “big” emotion, like anger or sadness, they tend to have a big tantrum on the floor. And these tantrums can be a lot to observe, full of thrashing, screaming, and tears. But a child reacts like this because the emotion they’re feeling is uncomfortable, maybe even painful.   Of course, as adults, we feel emotions too, and those feelings can be just as overwhelming, uncomfortable, or even painful as they were when we were children, even if we don’t let ourselves react in such a big way. But, sometimes, in our attempts to not give in to our emotions, we go too far: we run from them or suppress them — even if that harms us in the long run. Although there are many reasons we might suppress our emotions, one of them is that we are afraid of our emotions. Fear of emotions is called “animotophobia. It is not an official term in the DSM-5-TR. Still, fearing your emotions can have a significant impact on your well-being.

@KaitSo glad you are here. It's never too late to talk to your doctor. bI was 68 before I stopped lying to myself and talked to my doctor. He or she might be able to help. It may be easier to find an endocrinologist you specializes or a health care group who specializes. You might also seek out a therapist who specializes to help with HRT resources. Psychology Today can help find therapists who specialize. Glad you are here. WELCOME.

Good morning, everyone!   Coffee is flowing so my brain is beginning to function.    We've been busy caring for aging family members and trying to get the house open now that the weather is getting warmer. I've been working on getting the pool open and cleaned. It's almost ready for salt and starting up the heater. We may be swimming by next week.   But, it's raining here today so I guess I'll be stuck working inside.   Have a wonderful and safe, day!!

I had that same outcome from my first colonoscopy years ago. It just triggered more frequent colonoscopies for a period of time. Hopefully, that will be the same plan for you.

Biopsies came back mostly clear except one, one polyp came back with abnormal cell growth (pre-cancerous). It was completely removed during the colonoscopy so I don't know yet if further action needs to be taken.
