How many of you are anal enough that you do spell check before you post something, anywhere. Is it me, is it an age thing or is it just anal.

Checked, no spelling errors detected!

This is a pet peeve for many so you aren't alone on this. Fortunately though no one has to be an English Major to get support. For some English is a second language as this site is International. What do you use as a spell checker?

I use the google, catches about 90%. I so need to use it, I sintk at spelling

LOL!

I use Firefox as a browser and it has a built in Spell checker...

When something is spelled incorrectly, it's underlined in red ...

Click on it and a drop down box gives you spelling choices!

Cool!

I use the same one that Donna Jean does and why not she is the one that told me where to get it (I almost said told me where to go - but that is another issue entirely)

The key thing is to look for those red underlines before you hit send - it is too late then.

I tend to look at the word I just typed with every word I type to ensure it's spelt right! I've always been an excellent speller I think... :P Spell checkers are an annoyance to me because they just underline words that are not in their dictionaries, which I know I spelt correctly.

Lizzy is so right about people being able to tell what you said, also about writing in word, I do that with most of my poetry (to preserve a copy for my book).

As strange as it may seem the consonants are the most important letters in most words.

PS, I often have to go to a dictionary because most spell checkers do not contain many of the words in my vocabulary.

I had to look up "dang" but that was someone else.

I use firefox....Well i do but not for this forum cause for some reason my firefox wouldn't let certain things on this forum appear. <_< so i swap around and use Internet explorer.

I use google.......I also use google when someone says a word i don't understand. I find it's defintion then pretend i knew exactly what they meant from the start. It makes me look far more intelligent than i actually am. B)

Being trying to get my head around that quote for a while "You ARE far more more intelligent than you actually are!" :P

I've got my Firefox working again! Whoo! Just to celebrate my fixing Firefox I'm doing the banana dance.

Anyway....

I'm loving this spelling thing on Firefox! I'll never spell anything wrong again! B)

Me, too! While I do have a degree in Comparative Literature and sometimes teach English, I am prone to spelling errors when typing. I rather depend on the Firefox tool these days. 'Tis a lovely thing :D

COOL!!!

And...Listen up, gang....

Another cool thing about is when you use a word or term repetitively and it always underlines in red..

Such I use "HRT" a lot...It underlines it in red...so, just click on it and in the dropdown box you'll see "Add to Dictionary"...hit that and it never underlines it again!

Cool, again!

LOVE IT!

It's also good when when you want to make up your own words.

Yep, Matty...that, too.....

The only drawback is that it has no idea of the context...so you can use ...your/you're ...

High/Hi...Raise/raze....and such as that and it has no idea if you're using the right word...just that you've spelled it correctly!

I am a terribly anal person when it comes to writing at all. I tend to review what I write at least three times to make sure my punctuation and syntax are correct, in addition to my spelling. For this reason, I had friends in college ask me to review their papers prior to submission. I've also done mini-lessons on a forum for semi-colon, capitalization, and comma use...

I'll use online spellcheckers and let Word correct things only if I'm lazy; they're great as guides, but they aren't perfect. The dictionary is a much better friend to me. I also love edit and modify buttons on sites. <3

Sally, that's because many of the words in your vocabulary can only be found in the Online Dictionary of American Slang. :P

You'll find dang, chesticles, and my favorite, the Conflictasorus, which is defined as a transsexual dinosaur.

Don't believe me, check it out for yourself. http://onlineslangdictionary.com/definitio.../conflictasorus

Firefox fixes most of my screw ups. However I like to believe that the english language is flexible in that I can makify mah own wordery up. Isn't that just amazingly fantastical?
