How Much Are Hormones W/o Insurance?

I'm not sure my insurance (well, my dad's insurance that covers me til I graduate from college) covers HRT. I take some prescription meds now such as antidepressants and those cost several hundred dollars without insurance. One of my meds is $400 for 30 days' worth of meds. So how much do the hormones cost if they are not covered? If they are going to cost as much as my other meds would were they not covered, I or my parents certainly could not afford that.

Have you checked out the Wal-Mart $4 plan. Perhaps your meds are on the list.

The cost thing with T is a matter of shot vs. gel/other method really. IF your doc feels the shot will be doable for you then it is managable. Gel (guys and doc claims....) is hyper expensive. A bottle of T though if you can do injections that lasts 4-5 months can run as little as 70-80 dollars . And in some places, I hear compounding pharmacies can do it for as little as 55. Typically I do pay for my own out pocket just to avoid the hassle of "we'd like to dole it out 1cc at a time" ( <_< ) which would have me diving to the pharmacy practically every shot. Ummmm no. So I just pay it. 77bucks 3 times a year.

That is definitely doable. Yeah I am referring to injections; I think that's the best way to go anyway (plus I want faster results than you get w/ gel/patch or whatever :P)

Wal-Mart's $4 plan? I actually haven't heard of it til just now. The closest I found to testosterone on the list is "New EST Estrogen/Methyl Testost DS tab" and "New EST Estrogen/Methyl Testost HS tab". Not sure what that is... it's listed under women's health. If I can't do the Wal-Mart thing I guess I'll just do something like what Evan does.

My personel opinion is do the shots. Results are faster. My wife gives me mine, but you can also learn how to self-inject in your leg. Plenty of vids on Y-tube.

The gel is extrememly expensive, plus you have to be careful and not get it on your partner or she could grow whiskers lOL.

The compounded T is cheaper and Strohecker's is probably the best one to buy from. I had been buying it from another company, but found that it and my system did not like each other. So, I went back on what I call "the pure stuff". And, I haven't had any problems. No, I personally have not tried Stroheckers, but the brothers say it is an excellant compounded T product. Oh, I have also used the "gel" and the patches.

As far as I know Walmart's $4 plan dosen't cover T. Plus, when I talked to them about it, they acted rather snooty. Couldn't tell me what it would cost nor when it would be in. Their reason, it was a very tightly controlled drug and security reasons. I said the heck with that crap and gave my order to the local pharmacy and had it the next day.

I actually just had this conversation today with my therapist. More so about being covered at all and issues with that, ect.

He said he's never had any issues with people getting covered for their HRT.

Which is no specifics but it might at least be nice to hear.

So do you pay a manageable price for yours?

Does that mean you actually will most likely get HRT covered by insurance? I thought i'd most likely have to pay out-of-pocket.

Yep. I have... Blue cross? I think. Sounds right. My wallet, and hence card, are on another floor of the house and I'm too lazy to go look to confirm but I was told he's not had an issue with that insurance covering HRT. Along with many others.

Granted I'm waiting because I'll be having no insurance in a year but if I chose to start now I'd be covered.

ah, okay. granted ive heard more good things about BC/BS than I have for my insurance (United Healthcare-Oxford, rx plan is Medco.) But yeah hopefully I will get it covered. they just changed the policy so for rx's I don't get any coverage on brand name meds if there's a generic form available :/ so they are getting cheap. lol.

PM any or several of the Moderators or Administrators if you want to have something changed due to spelling errors, or if you simply want to have an entire post deleted.  We do not allow members to edit their own posts since there are some items we restrict from being posted.  Those things are in the Community Rules and if a Staff member has removed something because of the rules we do not want it coming back.  https://www.transgenderpulse.com/community-rules/   Use the PM system to contact us and include a link to the post you want changed.

Do I ever feel? There isn't a single minute that goes by that I feel that way. I have such a strong hate for what I have that there isn't a word out there for it.

I already tried that. Either too old like 60's and 70's or married. Not many people who would want to date a trans woman in dead red Mississippi. Maybe once things calm down just get a Mustang GT and just give up on it. Both are going to bring joy and pain. At least I could learn and share my love of cars with my kids when they get that old. I wouldn't even know what to do if someone said they wanted me. I would've already been thinking in my mind they are just going to ghost me so what's the point. I just don't know what to do anymore. I tried putting myself out there online and out in person. I haven't tried a bar yet although that's probably a bad idea. Maybe just to experience it again. I haven't been to one since 2013. The only problem I see is I'm not a night owl for sure. I go to bed at 8-830. My expectations were just that I wouldn't get rejected last. I have been able to handle a good bit of it but this one really hurt. I guess that's what happens when you have some hopes and expectations. It's not like I have another friend IRL to talk about this. She is my only one. I wished I didn't put myself out there.

As one who had to deal with the Porn/Adult Entertainment business as commercial, taxpaying businesses on a professional level, I can say that they are in it for money and the highest percentage of their income comes from ultra conservative areas where adequate Medical and Mental Health Profession and University Science instruction on Trans issues are banned.    It makes me wonder how much porn literature is hidden behind the 13 Bibles and Bible Study guides on some people's family bookshelves.

Do you ever feel trapped in a body that doesn't feel like yours?

There's the old thing of getting out and getting involved in things in the community and meeting people that way. Does your church have a food pantry? Does it have service opportunities you could plug into otherwise? You might run into someone that way.
    • Ashley0616
Well that didn't go well. She said she is intentionally single. When will I just stop thinking about putting myself out there. It really hurt but rejection and getting ghosted is just my second language apparently. The one person I have told all my dark secrets and didn't run off. At least we are friends. I'm happy only when I'm sleeping and that is it because things actually go my way from time to time. Just another wonderful day of me. SMDH!

In their minds, yes, unless it is clearly, consistently, forcefully articulated by those who represent trans people that we are not.  I'm not sure who that would be.

So, this proves that we're all  pedophiles? I suspect that the majority of pedophiles are probably cis.   Yeah, Alexander the Great was probably queer.  What does this have to do with me needing to pee?   I am so tired of this ___.  I raised 8 kids and never molested any of them - unless you count changing diapers without closing my eyes.  Yeah… so tired.   It makes me wonder what is actually on these people's minds.
