Volunteer Fun

It was a long Saturday. I did my full ten hour shift at work then got a ride home for a quick shower and change.

Then my supervisor picked me up for the charity event. I had been asked earlier that day about going.

Said I'd wouldn't mind at all, I've wanted to get on any number of events that our job has hosted.

Having no car or licence it's tough to make plans like that. No problem. He was glad to pick me up to help.

It was his church that was hosting thier first ever Chilie Cook Off Fund Raiser. So after after a half hour ride we arrive.

We met up with our fellow volunteers from work, met the pastor and were given a tour of the church, under construction.

It seems that they are trying to set up a home for troubled teens on site.

After that we set up the tables chairs and what not, just as the first of the contestants arrived. There were only seven in all.

Not bad for a first time event for a small church. We served up samples of all the chillies so that everyone could vote on thier favorie.

Then all came back thru with full sized bowls to paftake of thier most liked selections. They even asked us volunteers to sample and vote.

The pastors ended up winning but he declined any prize and moved everyone up. After all had thier fill we cleaned everything up.

And were treated to an inpromptu jam session by band members of the church.

Also since we had five or more people volunteer from work they received a five hundred dollar donation from corporate!!! :D

I didn't get home till 11:30PM - after starting my day at 5:00AM - I went straight to bed, exhausted, but happy.

Luv Kat :)

Hey, Kelly....

Makes you feel good inside, doesn't it?

Gee, I sure would of liked to of tasted some of that chili, but, everyone seems to want to make "Firehouse" or "Atomic" chili!

You sure had a long day, but after all of that, I'll bet you slept really good!

Felt all warm and fuzzy.....

Actually they were all rather mild, or just slightly spicy.

The winner was really sweet with big slices of stewed tomatoes.

The runner up was a mild spice with meatballs.

Third was a thick stick to your ribs style with steak and sausage bits.

I did vote for the the one with the tomatoes though!!!

Never got a taste of the pastors chille - his pot was cleaned out first!!!

Obviously it was really good!!! :D

Wonderful - sounds like so much fun - and a good way to know people better. GRAND

And

I make chili - all sorts (Texas girl) and I know a great recipe for not-so spicy - not so hot - very delicious chili

....................................

INGREDIENTS

Two pounds BEEF smoked sausage (pork will not work) - if you have to by it 'cased' (in sausage link form) - microwave it for 15 seconds and peel the casing off.

Onions (ulcer prone can leave this out) - two small or one large - chopped very fine

Can of Rotel tomatoes (here is the situation - mild? Use regular - medium hot? Use with peppers added - Fire? Use with Habaneros peppers added.

Cup of chili powder (cut to half cup for sensitive stomachs)

Large can of chicken stock broth - add water or additional broth if need throughout the cooking

Tablespoon of dill seeds (yes - weird!)

Teaspoon of white pepper (digestable, black is not)

Teaspon of salt (ONLY if the sausage isn't salty - wait until the very end to taste).

COOKING (stove top)

To cook, use a large pot with a lid, brown meat at the bottom, constantly stiring - pour off most of the fat. Then further brown the meat with the onions added.

When the onions turn clear, add everthing except the chili powder, white pepper and salt.

Cook 30 minutes at just a bubbling of the broth. The lid is to keep it from sputtering all over the place.

Add spices , cook another 10 minutes and it is ready to eat. It's better the next day but who can wait!

.....................................

Serve with french bread or Texas toast.

Exceptional with cold cola drinks - GRAND with ice cold beer.

I'm not sure they can do this.  Not on line anyway.  LOL   Defamation?  Not that I personally know of.

Nice! I've found myself shopping around for astrophotography gear more than once but haven't taken the plunge yet. To close to a metro area to do it from my home.

It never occurred to me to be able to see them here in the south.   Maybe tonight if it's not cloudy.

Well, this last post brings my trans life up to date.  What happens from here is anyone's guess.  The next big milestone will be retirement, probably next year some time.  I don't think that will change things much for Sally because as I have stated previously, I am in a mostly happy place where she is concerned.    I do have a few more posts planned, as I would like to write in more detail about a few occurrences that were memorable to me.  Hopefully they will be of interest to others.    Hugs,   Sally

Has anyone been a victim of online defemination? and what to do about it?

Yes, this is very therapeutic. You are able to see different aspects of your own personality. There is the part which has survived life thus far through decision making and lots of trial and error. That part of you is your wise and capable parent. When you feel strongly identified with the scared child in you, you can turn to the wise parent part of you whom you trust to guide you. You have faith and trust in that part of you necessarily because it has gotten you this far. Naturally, we all have room for improvement and advancement, but you can only start where you are and try to do your best with what you have to work with and deal with. But by adopting this attitude, you see that wise parental part of you become stronger, wiser, and more steadfast and skillful. Then the child in you increasingly becomes more trusting and carefree.

You want to hear coincidence? I just posted that and my neighbor just texted me and said she has been up early because there were Northen Lights outside. Then 2 seconds later I get an extreme weather alert. “We are experiencing Extreme Geomagnetic conditions observed and continued severe geomagnetic storms expected to continue through the weekend”.

No you aren't!!  There were reports from Texas, Arkansas and the Carolinas of spectacular shows last night.  This is a once-in-a-lifetime event, the best show since 1938, someone said.  Tonight is supposed to be just as good.  (OK, maybe a twice-in-a-lifetime event.  )

@KathyLauren That’s absolutely beautiful. Love those colors! That would be so nice to see some time. I’m too far South to ever see these spectacular events.   Very Nice, Susan R🌷

Welcome @AmandaJoy, It’s a pleasure to have you join us here on the forum. It does seem much easier to suppress this understanding of ourselves until one day, it’s not. It all suddenly hits you like a ton of bricks. Those puzzle pieces all suddenly seem to fit and there’s no going back. Like you, I waited until I felt there was no other choice. It was now or never! Never having the opportunity to be myself in this world was not going to be an option.   Words of wisdom there. Many of us try to make up for lost time or try to get results faster than a cis puberty but it just doesn’t work that way as you’ve learned. It’s difficult waiting for the changes but the good news…eventually you’ll experience many of them and the joys that come with those changes are wonderful and exciting. But like most good things, they take time. And sometimes it’s helpful things don’t happen overnight. Especially if you have others that need time to adjust to your physical and emotional changes.   I wish you the best on your continuing journey wherever that may lead you. I think you’ll enjoy this forum as there are great resources, advice, and people here that make it what it is. Hope to see you around.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

I enjoyed my Saturday moka-pot coffee this morning while doing something I love: processing astronomy images.  I didn't stay up late to watch last night's spectacular aurora, but my all-sky camera did, taking pictures every minute.
