I am out to my mom and dad and my mom seems accepting. We have talked about it and the message I got from her was that she believes that I should be happy as a guy acting how I want to. How can I explain that I am a girl, and not just a feminine boy or andro person? Any questions would be appreciated, as I cannot be to broad with my browser...

Get your parents to read the book "True Selves." It explains gender dysphoria. It can be found on Amazon.com.

Amber, I'm glad that your parents seem reasonably supportive, even if they don't completely understand

yet. That's not unusual, and it often takes time and repeated explanations for it to really sink in.

There is an excellent topic posted here that offers other great resources you can download or find.

Good luck, hon.

I have that book. And Elizabeth is right, the book gives a good explanation on the basics on what a transsexual is.

Well, I wish she would be willing to read that, but she wants to interrogate me first, and I don't know if this is good or bad, but that I am not ready. I fear that my taking time will fuel my mother's denial. She seems to also be misinformed; she thinks treatment can't start untill 18, and everyone will see me as a ts, and I cannot, therefore, be happy.

Well, there's a very common problem with parents, S/O's and friends...

They're misinformed and that puts you at a disadvantage..

You'll never get anywhere until whomever you are coming out to understands the facts...

The fact is that you CAN start before you're 18, but not without their consent..

So, if she won't read the book....you'll have to bring her up to speed yourself..if you are going to a therapist, perhaps they could explain it to her...

Otherwise, you need to put together a very good presentation...

Perhaps you could purchase "True Selves" and read it yourself. It might help you explain yourself to your Mom. I don't know if you have the funds or the time to do so, however.

Maybe you should just tell your Mom that this is a genuine condition, that which many believe is caused by something that happens in the womb (something about the timing of hormones... I believe the main website that contains these forums talks about it, as does "true selves" and many other sources), and that having this condition has caused you much pain and strife. You could even go on to say that even being treated as a boy that likes women's clothes or even an effeminate boy would be emotionally traumatic.

Just don't expect your parents to understand. Hope that they will, but never expect it, because to be honest I don't even understand it.

I was all ready to do it, talk to my mom again. My confidence shot up, but then there was a pack commitie meeting she had to go to and my plan went out the window. She didn't know, but my confidence is crushed, and I feel I will never be able to do it. What should I do?

Then have the answers Amber.

Why aren't you happy being your birth gender?

Because that is not who you are.Regardless what is between your legs...

You know in your heart and in your soul, and in the core of your identity...

You are a female,a girl,a young woman.

How long have you known you feel like this? Always

Are you absolutely certain this is the right choice for you? Without a doubt.

You may say words to the effect that...I know who I am.And being able to live

my life truthfully as a young woman name Amber is the right choice for me Mom.

Then I would or may tell her that you cannot live as who you are not any

longer. It is your time to become who you are supposed to be.

Sweety, you know who you are, never back down on that claim...You Know Who You Are.

Hugs,

Angelique
