Family Guy doesn't offend me--I think it's hilarious. If you want to see real homophobia and transphobia, go watch Fox News. Now that offends me.

I'll probably see this episode at a later date cause I'm in the UK.

But I think what people need to realise is this cartoon when offending are often completely taking the mick out of people with those opinions in the first place.

I haven't seen it yet, I tried watching it on that link but it said it wouldn't allow me cause I'm in the UK. *looks crossed* :P

But when I do get the chance to see, I'll be sure to post a full descriptive post about my opinion on the show :P Not that anyone would care to read it ;) but If people won't join me, I'll just bore them instead ;)

I didn't think it was too bad, I'm a big fan of family guy, I like that it's edgy and regularly steps over line, sometimes even taking me out of my comfort zone. I laughed when he came out of sugery already perfect, handbag and everything. I laughed at stewie's interest. When peter and Lois called her gay, Quagmire defended her which I though was good, and it was still funny in how it was done. Neither Lois or Peter really being the bastions of tolerence.

Brian throwing up was... well I mean Seth really likes long jokes, ones where you just start to laugh at the ridiculousness of how long it's dragging on, like peter banging his knee for instance. But yeah I was disappointed, that with brian being the tolerant one, he didn't swing back around to deciding he was ok with it. It almost felt like it had been cut and brian getting his donkey kicked was tacked on, or possibly they didn't want to make it preachy when at the end of the day it's just a cartoon and is supposed to be some mindless fun. Anyway it was ok, tho overall I didn't think it was one of the better episodes, but then they've all been a bit poor this season.

To people who find it really offensive or get upset about it, try to realise that this stuff is good for us, it's not so much about positive education as it is removing the taboo, making it something you can talk about in the living room. And that's the effect of almost any 'fun' media exposure like this.

Sam, I think you make an excellent point. For those of you who remember, "All in the Family" did the same thing for a lot of

taboo issues back in the 70's, making subjects like homosexuality, sexual abuse and women's rights topics that could be talked about

at home for the first time. The more that the TG community is in the public eye, the more accepted we will be.

didn't watch it, had no intention of doing so, I think the show is terrible and poorly written... I will never understand the appeal of shows like this or south park, both detestable shows with no value what so ever.

ok, it was barely passable...until Brian's character turned inside out.

And Lois's character. Has she become a little rougher around the edges? The whole family is always a little loopy but quite often she's a calming (if not exactly centered) influence. Here she continually stoked the fire. And often was just downright mean. Out of character.

I mean Brian and Stewie do so much together and he sees Stewie in drag, as a cd, in all sorts of wierd situations and here is a situation just a little more advanced and he is sick for 5 airtime minutes?

Part of the humor of shows like this are all the stereotypes being displayed. We expect certain things out of each of them and how they interplay with the other. But what would happen if Peter, for one whole show, becomes socially conscious and caring? I mean for the entire 22 minutes, never, ever breaking that character? I mean actually totally CARING about Meg and doing things for her as a prime example. Even if all the others laughed at him, we, the audience, would be very uncomfortable because that's not who he is. I understand it's a cartoon, but in any episodic show, there's a certain expectation of character portrayal, and when that is ruined, it changes the presentation/viewing dynamics. I mean why bother to have continuing characters if each episode they're displaying totally different characteristics each time?

The only 'redeeming' continuing character was Quagmire and he was only pleasant because he still cared for his father, not necessarily because of who Ida was now. And why? That's not the Quagmire we know and love!

I will say at the end I torn, well, no, somewhat uncomfortable about what happened between Quagmire and Brian. But maybe that's exactly what MacFarlane wanted.

Well, I'm shocked. The episode wasn't really that offensive. The only part that I found even somewhat offensive was the part where Brian was throwing up for about 30 seconds when he found out he "spent the night" with Quagmire's father Ida. The rest of the insults are things we have to deal with every day (being called "gay", people wondering what it's like after a sex change, people thinking that we're gross, etc). I laughed when Ida asked Meg where she got her operation, assuming that she was also an MTF transsexual.

LOL Oh my god that is so terrible and yet funny in the sense of just how horribly that character is treated all the time.

It was never about it being offensive, for me at least. It was always about Seth absolutely destroying his show. It used to be great up until about season 4 or 5 and then wow did he just let go. Conway Twitty jokes and the like have brought that show to a humor standstill for me. How did he let such a great show fall through his fingers. I will watch that episode I guess for ze gigglez if there are any... >.>

So I was able to watch it! (two days later <_< ) Anyways thanks for the Internet!! xD

I didn't find it offensive too much. I mean when Brain threw up after finding out that was pretty bad. Maybe I missed some parts...

Anyways, I love Family Guy. I love how they don't just make fun of one group. They make fun of EVERYBODY.

I hope that doesn't make me a bad person

I just watched it and I wanted to vomit/cry towards the end when Brian started freaking out.

It really seams that shows like family guy and south park are really digging at the bottom of the barrel these days.

As far as Lois's character goes, I saw the Pewterschmidt in her this episode. There have been times where she looks down upon those who are not "normal," and this happened to be one of those occasions.

With your criticisms of Brian, I think there are a few things that need to be considered. One: he never slept with Stewie, as he did with Ida. Two: he was under the impression that Ida was still a dude, false as it is. Many men can't handle that thought. Three: Yes, he's seen Stewie in drag, (and Stewie's seen HIM in drag for that matter) but is always somewhat grossed out by it. Yes. The 40 airtime seconds of barfing was well over the top and slightly offensive, but MacFarlane decided it was a good time to bring back the extended barf gag that got him really good ratings back in Season 4.

Well it's not as if he is doing them all by himself. Matt Groenig was fairly successful at doing so with Futurama and the Simpsons show I think Seth should be able to as well. Probably better since one of his 3 shows consists mainly of pot shot jokes and the like. Just my opinion though and it really holds no meaning whatsoever since I am fairly insane to begin with. :D

I've yet to watch it, I generally prefer American Dad nowadays.

While Family Guy is an equal-oppurtunities offender (like South Park), most people seem to forget that Seth Macfarlane is a massive supporter of LGBT rights. I remember reading an interview with him a while back about this episode, and he said it was something like 'the most respectful episode on tv about the subject matter', or something along those lines. And to be fair on him, it probably is. I mean, when are trans people ever shown in a good light on TV anyway? Even South Park's episodes on the matter seem to completely miss the point.

As far as Lois's character goes, I saw the Pewterschmidt in her this episode. There have been times where she looks down upon those who are not "normal," and this happened to be one of those occasions.

I can never understand Lois. In some episodes she's really nice, but in others she's a complete pregnant dog.

I don't use makeup, but I am starting to become interested in it. It always seems like I'm looking for the next step in my journey, even though I'm non-committal. Makeup could be it.   A hack that my hairdresser suggested to control frizz was to smear a bit of moisturizer over my hair. To paraphrase from one of my favorite childhood books, "Never apply a lot. Just so much, and no more! Never more than a spot! Or something may happen. You never know what!"    One day I applied more than a spot, and not knowing what to do with it, I wiped the excess over my face. It felt nice and I have kept it up since.    It's a start.

If I'm doing something where I interact with people for any length of time I usually do something with my eyes (mascara, brow fill-in and taming). Bigger events I'll do some makeup but always try to be as subtle as I can, plus I think my freckles make me seem younger to people. I know it's too much when my brain suddenly thinks "clown!"

      Good morning    wow, this is what 6 AM looks like not looking out the windows at work. Interesting week of start times 7,8,7,7,4.  ASM is off most of the week.     No coffee this morning, at least not until I get to work.  I’m going to see if no coffee makes a difference in how I feel today, I’ve head a headache for several days now, nothing has helped.  I do realize that stopping coffee cold turkey can bring on caffeine withdrawal headaches so I expect today to be no better.  But I’m hoping for tomorrow.  Today is just to see what if any affect it has on my throat.    time to fix my hair and walk the dog before I motor across the road.  Cherri o .   keep a stiff upper lip and all that stuff.  (Sorry, nothing the least bit funny coming to mind this morning, you’ll have to entertain yourself today}

DON’T ADD JUDGEMENT TO YOUR FEELINGS by Olga Lacroix | Anxiety relief, Happiness, Mindfulness I’m sitting here drinking my favorite coffee, and as I enjoy this moment I cannot wait to share with you the thoughts that are in my head.  Recently, I have talked about how circumstances don’t determine your future. And somewhere along the line, I wanted to explore a little bit more about our thought process. How we discourage ourselves so often from our goals and from the things that we want, because we have beliefs that go against what we want. In this episode, I want to talk about how it’s important for us to learn not to judge our feelings. Aside from being a Life Coach, I’m also a Certified Mindfulness Instructor. And non-judgement is one of the learnings that I enjoy understanding, applying, and teaching. WHY BEING JUDGEMENTAL IS HARMFUL Sometimes it’s so difficult to be non-judgmental, especially if it’s coming from a bad experience or emotions. For example, a client of mine just had a pregnancy loss and a part of her coping mechanism is to hate or be indifferent to people who have babies.  It’s her way of processing the grief and protecting herself from anger and sadness. And recently someone close to her had a baby. She wanted to feel excited for that person but somehow her bad experience was holding her back. Like her, a lot of people cope this way. Some people try to hide their feelings and emotions just because they’ve already judged them as maybe improper or inappropriate emotions. And what happens is, those emotions stay inside them longer, they don’t get to process their emotions, and it becomes more painful. HOW NOT TO BE JUDGEMENTAL When we judge our feelings as bad, our natural response is to avoid it. We go through crazy lengths just to avoid the feeling, but by avoiding it we’re actually growing it. So what do we do? Do not judge the emotion, allow yourself to feel the negative emotions. Don’t mask it, instead embrace it.  DON’T IDENTIFY WITH YOUR EMOTIONS For someone like me who experienced Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD, a common side effect is anxiety. I have learned that the more I try to repel the anxious thoughts, the stronger they feel in my body, and the longer they stay. But when I’m courageous enough, and I say to the feeling, I’m not gonna judge you for existing, you’re just a feeling. I tell myself something neutral. There is anxiety, not I am anxious. Separate yourself from the feeling. The feeling is not you and it’s just temporary. FINDING THE BALANCE Now when the feeling is good and positive, we jump into attachment, wanting that feeling to linger longer and even forever. But according to Buddha, that’s when the suffering begins, when you want to make something last forever, and when you’re not ready to understand and accept the impermanence of emotions. Find the balance in your emotions. Learn to separate yourself from the emotion. Feel the emotions whether they’re good or bad, but don’t dwell in it. It’s an emotion that we need to feel, process, and eventually let go. Through this, we will achieve a healthier mind. STEPS TO FREE YOURSELF FROM JUDGEMENT The first step is awareness. Being aware of the emotion and how you have judged it. This step will allow you to think of the next step to free yourself from judgement. Step two is processing your emotion in neutrality. Go to a quiet place, close your eyes, and meditate. Bring all of your senses, all of your awareness to the feeling. Give it attention and wait for it to dissipate.  The last step is to pay attention to the lesson. Become curious and think about what this emotion is teaching you, what wisdom can you take from it. Be an observer of your emotions. You need to react, you need to fix them, change them, modify them, you just need to notice them. And then you need to open the space, let them be felt. These are moments of growth, these are moments of transformation. And most importantly, these are moments where we allow the emotion to be processed. Reset Your Mindset is opening in January of 2022. A program that helps you with making decisions, set clear boundaries without drama or guilt. Stop the hamster wheel that keeps you in overthinking mode, switching off the mean inner voice and switching on confidence and compassion instead. I just want to mention, where I live there are tons of cis guys your height or shorter. Among them is my dad and one of my professors (who are well over 17 y/o lol), and I honestly don't think twice about it. Every time I go to the grocery store I see at least 4 different guys around that height too. I don't think your height will be an issue towards passing long-term. (Well, maybe it's different in your region, but just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.)   I can relate to the hands thing though. If I ever hold something in front of the camera to take a photo of it, I feel like I have to crop my hands out so they don't "out" me. (I admit that that's silly.)
