I is worth noting that srs/grs may not be the end goal of many transitioners. So I feel your success rate is skewed by implying that one only succeeds if they have the surgery. Saying that, I do feel that the number that make it throught the first year of rle is around 50 to 60% and making it 5 pplus is probably less than that. My numbers are not hard science, just personal observation. Though, things seem to be getting better as socially we are slowly becoming more accepted.

Janis

I totally agree with that, Janis......

I feel that many will find a comfort zone somewhere before SRS and live there...not everyone wants it....

On the other hand, there will be people wanting SRS and won't be able to make it because of health reasons (Some of us older ones) or for finacial reasons...

I do know that a very small number de-transition....

Of all the trans women I know locally, and that is quite a number,

only three have had corrective surgery.Happiness is found

living at where ever we may have to stop transition.SRS may

be the end goal for most of us,but wehter we have it or not

has no basis on how happy we are in our new real life.

I know that if for some reason I can't have mine, that will be all right.

I have never been so at peace,or as happy,as I am at this time in my

whole adult life. Most everyone I lost is coming back. And they recognise,

and accept me for being who I am now,not who I used to be.

The vast majority of girls/women reading these forums

will either not transition, live full time in role,or have SRS.

The ones who make it all the way to SRS are known as the

one percenter's,for only one out of a hundred who start HRT

will make it that far. Not being ugly, just factual. Not everyone

is going to make it.

Angelique

I'm an optimist and I believe the percentage is higher than that.

Eight or nine year's of hormones and wonder how I managed prior. I believe it just the nature of what it is not great but acceptable, I chose and will never return. I sure didn't know the length of my trip 'but I won't be returning ever to that house. Jennifer

Much of this information is not accurate - I want people here to understand this.

First "transitioning' is NOT necessarily through SRS.

Secondly the numbers who do transition should be based on the numbers who are DIAGNOSED. My research shows that about a third who are diagnosed do nothing, but two thirds chose to transition to some degree. Of those two thirds, half are not going to be able to go as far as they desire - or are in the process and not finished. The other half WILL transition as far as they wish.

So if there are say 100,000 true trans in the USA (there are really many, many more), the division seems 40,000 are never able to come to terms with themselves, 30,000 are questioning, 20,000 are in therapy, and 10,000 have transitioned. Now of those 10,000, not all want SRS. I have a T-woman friend (my late friend Jim's daughter) that has transitioned with FFS, but does not want SRS.

Thirdly, I know and have personally met 17 true transexual T-women, and 10 true T-men. ALL have said - no regrets.

The one that questioned transitioning - would not meet with me - so I don't know.

Detransitioning? One whom I never met, but know well, did it temporarily to get admitted to college, but restarted soon after that.

There has been so much negativity on this subject - and I suspect the bitterness comes from having to give up so much - or from NOT following protocol, using illegal HRT or not being under a doctors care. Some who are so negative may not be truly transsexual and self diagnosed, incorrectly.

I just want to put this out.

Transitioning is a viable option for we who are diagnosed as true transsexuals. It works just fine.

Nay-sayers cause harm if what they claim is false.

I agree Lizzy.

I posted some scientific data on this in this topic yesterday: http://www.lauras-playground.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=408&st=40

I know the statistics in my country:

1% regrets SRS. On 3800 dutch MTF/FTM who had a SRS, 38 regretted the SRS. Of those 38 people, 8 of them started a new SRS to become their previous gender.

This number is very low according to the medical specialists. I can give you the source, but it is in dutch spoken language.

One case was discussed of a MTF who detransitioned, and it was because this person was in his sixties and could not cope with it anymore, his life was completely ruined and chose for a detransition because of family issues. Now it's important to notice that all those 3800 people were treated by official genderteams in our country with 1 to 2 years of therapy before being granted to obtain hormones, let alone surgery.

An old online friend of mine detransitioned back to male because of the pressure. I don't really talk to her/him (I have no idea what gender they're presenting as now) anymore.

They are all sound theories. the girls i have met both here and in real life. that sucessfully live as women (and men for the ftms i know ) have a bit of ice water in their viens. their head and their butt wired on fairly tight and a clear focus on their goal and let nothing or no one stand in there way, my hats off to the ones that can over come all the road blocks red tape and BS and come threw the other side knowing who they are and were they are going and still manage to have a big smile on thier face :)

Sakura

Sakura,

I know how long you have been living in role being a long time member,But I have to say I so enjoy your posts.

You cut to the chase and say it like it is.Many will not make it,only a few of us will go all the way,for whatever

reason, but for the ones that do learn to live, breath, become women,it is a wonderous journey.I have made it for four

years, been in transition for 42 months yesterday, gained back almost all I lost at my coming out,and the ones who

didn't weren't meant to be a part of my life and I do not miss them in the least. I am loved and supported and

totally accepted as me,just little ole me.Who I was is no longer an issue,he was a character I played for a lifetime.

I have been forced into a de-transition atm. I am about to make a thread on it as until this point it has been kept a secret amongst the chat mods. I am free in chat at any time if anyone would like more information on this, or I will have the new thread posted in a short while (am watching chat at the same time)

As one who had to deal with the Porn/Adult Entertainment business as commercial, taxpaying businesses on a professional level, I can say that they are in it for money and the highest percentage of their income comes from ultra conservative areas where adequate Medical and Mental Health Profession and University Science instruction on Trans issues are banned.    It makes me wonder how much porn literature is hidden behind the 13 Bibles and Bible Study guides on some people's family bookshelves.

Do you ever feel trapped in a body that doesn't feel like yours?

There's the old thing of getting out and getting involved in things in the community and meeting people that way. Does your church have a food pantry? Does it have service opportunities you could plug into otherwise? You might run into someone that way.
    • Ashley0616
Well that didn't go well. She said she is intentionally single. When will I just stop thinking about putting myself out there. It really hurt but rejection and getting ghosted is just my second language apparently. The one person I have told all my dark secrets and didn't run off. At least we are friends. I'm happy only when I'm sleeping and that is it because things actually go my way from time to time. Just another wonderful day of me. SMDH!

In their minds, yes, unless it is clearly, consistently, forcefully articulated by those who represent trans people that we are not.  I'm not sure who that would be.

So, this proves that we're all  pedophiles? I suspect that the majority of pedophiles are probably cis.   Yeah, Alexander the Great was probably queer.  What does this have to do with me needing to pee?   I am so tired of this ___.  I raised 8 kids and never molested any of them - unless you count changing diapers without closing my eyes.  Yeah… so tired.   It makes me wonder what is actually on these people's minds.

Whew! I don't think I want to see that age unless I can still function normally although my family hasn't gotten to live that long. The oldest lived to see 80.

Seen my grandmothers and told them happy Mother's Day.Got them a card. One is 95 and other is 93 that still get around well.Good thing is they love and accept me as a granddaughter.Growing up,they knew something was not right with me.

Well, I told my best and only friend that I liked her and asked if I ever came across her mind, I would make her not regret it. She didn't say no or yes yet. She believes that romance is dead to her, and I understand that due to her knowing her husband for over 20 years. I deleted my dating profile on Facebook and took a screen shot to show her. She is so right for me, and I hope I can be her best decision. I have left her be so she can think about it.

Thanx!  But I am sure there is more that I don't know than what I do! But now I know about using the "@" function to alert people that you mentioned them. And today I learned how to Quote someone so my comment as a bit more context. Still so much to learn.  No sure how long I should keep replying to multiple people all in the same thread where the topic is just "Hello" I understand there are one or two other subjects in this place (besides me ... saying "hello"). I have tried looking through the forums a tiny bit and just got lost!  lol  (Then again, getting lost is kinda my super-power!)

This sort of misinformation about our community has been going on for years, this is why it is important for group leaders within our community to speak out on.
