"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.

- Wendy Dio "

Yes, the Icon or Heavy Metal, Ronnie James DIO has passed away. His battle with stomach cancer was one final battle he could not, in the end, win. RJD was the lead singer of Rainbow, Black Sabbath (after Ozzy) and of course DIO. This news has saddened me deeply and my thoughts and prayers go out to Wendy, and his family, friends, and all the musicians inspired by him.

We love you Ronnie, now God has the best seat in the house.

Trouble with getting older, dear. We see people in the world, artists, writers, musician, rock personalities - even (ugh) actors and tv personalities - they start going the way we are all headed.

Dying is a permanent way to resolve problems and find rest, hopefully involutarily... but those left behind suffer - even we who only know the talent and value they had in this otherwise grey world.

So raise a glass o rye my friend - toast the recently deceased - and hope they remember to distract the devil for us... at our time... at the gates... before St. Peter.

Or in this case -grin - a toke for ole tymes sayke.

I know Lizzy... My wife always says "don't weep for the passing of someone, they truly are in a better place, and hey, they don't have to deal with the day to day garbage. Any ailments, pains, discomforts are gone, they have achieved perfection.

It all becomes especially mindful as we get older as our peers pass....

It makes us really feel it...

Celebrities, school friends, people of every sort that we knew.....

It makes us feel our own mortality...

'bye, Ronnie.....

Rock on, Bud....

RIP Dio. Oddly enough, I turned on my media player yesterday, and Rainbow in the Dark was the first song that played.

I guess heaven needed epic vocals.

Not being a huge Metal fan it might surprise you to note that i attended a Black Sabbath Concert with a friend at college.

She had been out of town when the tickets went on sale and was afraid that she had missed the show but I worked for a ticket agency and managed house seats on the aisle - 7th row.

Just after Ronnie had left Black Sabbath they had toured with a different singer and that was who we were expecting - Imagine the reaction of the fans as the band started and the spotlight hit the lead singer - it was Ronnie James Dio on a sort of a return tour.

He was amazing that night as so many other nights.

I am sorry to hear of his passing but he will be remembered.

Love ya,

Sally

How awesome and lucky you are! I was unfortunately never able to see him in concert..living in a small town for half my life, and being almost homeless while i lived in chicago, i didn't get to see much..He along with Bruce Dickenson and Rob Halford are my three favorite singers... and I have never seen any of them.
