Clothes That Work For You

Well, I was thinking... I see a lot of posts in this section about "does this look good on me" or "what works for me" and I thought they could all be condensed into one big help thread.

The idea is, you give a couple details about your body shape/size (don't have to be overly explicit), pictures would help (again, don't need to be graphic, just reference shots) and your personal style. Then, the fashion experts on here will help you out and tell you what clothing would suit your body and tastes.

Hopefully this is helpful to someone, and if it's a bad idea, say so lol. I just thought it would be a good idea.

I'm surprised no one has posted here yet! I think this sounds like a fantastic idea. As soon as I stop being so camera-shy, I'll give myself up to the Laura's fashion police, haha...

I'm a "pear" unfortunately. What I do is wear long shirts that cover my hips or dress shirts layered over t-shirts. To hide my breast I wear vests over my shirts, which is a bit hipster-ish but oh well. I only have jeans left over from when I was a stick (trying to become a stick again, well, a stick with some muscles  ) so they are pretty tight but the long shirts cover the hips and my legs are not fat. I add emphasis on the top to take away from my chest. By that I mean I wear dark colored jeans with interesting tops. Most of the tops are brightly colored or interestingly patterned, but I have a few plain shirts. With those I make my hair absolutely crazy (which I do sometimes anyway) in order to draw attention away from the hips.

Funny, I've been wearing a vest at work to hide my chest as well :D But I like it because it has a lot of pockets and I need to carry a lot of little things around.

When not at work, I prefer fitted tunics that are not tight around the belly, but emphasize my waist and hips and have 3/4 sleeves that fit loosely. I like flare jeans or the occasional flowy skirt. Nothing too tight. I prefer clothes that flatter what I I like about what I have rather than emphasize what I'd rather not have.

I'm a tall legged oblong bodied woman. Fortunately my shoulders and my hips are about the same. HRT is finally giving me a waist and my legs at the thigh and rear end are starting to fill out. BUT my legs are realllllly long!

Generally - doing research, I discoverd I look best with a deep vee or shirt collared top. I can also wear a tight scoop neckline but NO open or square tops or blouses, the idea is to have people look down away from my shoulders. Also untill I get a wasp waist (does not run in my family, though) I look best in skirts and a man-tailored shirt with the shirt tail out. BUT with a bit of waist now, I can chinch tight a wide belt with a teeshirt type top tucked in - looks good as all my 'belly' fat has gone south. Shirts are best just below the knee - first because of my height (short skirts show too much leg length) and secondly because of my age.

I do not look good in a 'hippy' natural presentation - maybe if my hair was longer and straighter. I look best in a 'dressy' presentation like I am going out to a nice dinner. Casual dressing? Jeans and a heavy teeshirt - the girls show now and I cannot go out without a bra. I also ponytail with a headband to be more casual.

And dresses? I wear them now. Solid black is elegant but I can wear medium sized patterned prints. Small pattern prints make me look too big, large busy prints make me look too frumpy. Dresses should follow the same logic as a blouse and skirt. BUT - accessories are needed with a dress.

Shoes? Small heeled flats or small heels - no more than 1 1/2" height - due to my 6'1" stature.

And hair is 50% of how you present! I never realized how drastically it can change your presentaion. For my squareish round face I look best with my hair pulled away from my forehead - whisps on the sides if in a pony, curly down to the shoulders if freeflowing. My earrings need to show - to frame my face.

I don't have many photos. Not full body shots as I have an inexpensive camera. I will try to do better in the future.

I'm lucky.....very lucky, and I realize it.......

I hated how I looked as a male bodied person and I always thought that I'd NEVER be able to pass as me.....

I was so wrong.....

I lost weight, the shoulders went away...I trimmed down....

Now on HRT the right parts are buddin nicely.....

I'm 5' 7" and change.....

148 lbs....

I wear size 10 girls jeans....and most tops in medium....

Legs aren't too long, but the right length skirt takes care of that....

My clothes fit well and I'm pretty happy how the whole thing is turning out so far!

O.o Your shoulders just went away, DJ? I'm intrigued...I'm 5'11 and 220, I've got a ways to go before I hit the weight I want to be at (however, I am getting there). Like I said, I'll try to get some pictures up soon. Ugh, I can't stand my giant shoulders...

Speaking of hair, I found this site and I think it would answer a lot of questions about how to wear your hair. You enter the type of face shape you have and it tells you what to do and what you should avoid :) Hope it is of interest x

Yes, definitely. You look good in that picture :). This is unrelated, but I'm curious...do bigger boobs produce the illusion of smaller shoulders? Or do they make you look even more like a giant?

Such a long way to go...worrying about passing can be depressing :(.

Kinda strange answer here - My post op friend Veronica says although your skeleton stays the same, the muscles supporting it do reshape. You shoulders contain a lot of muscle mass. Also the shoulder bones hang by ligaments and long muscles. This rearranges a bit - your shoulders don't have that male muculature and shape after a while.

Veronica also had breast enhancement. From an HRT induced B to a D cup. For her body size (same as mine ) the D cup breast size looks appropriate. She did say it helps her pass (I guess so! She is quite buxom now).

Okay... taking advantage of this topic: especially since I went on a sort of "shopping spree" today at Goodwill. They have so many awesome CHEAP clothes. bahaha.

Oh, I'm bad at this full-body piccie taking thing, so I am uploading a couple of pics. In some my breasts are bound with bandages, and in others they are 'free-balling' (bahaha). I guess I'm lucky.. my hips aren't ginormous and I'm pretty thin (5'7" and 135lbs) so my boobs aren't very big.. It works. My hair was cut by a stylist who thought I wanted it to be feminine, so it's not quite right (I was afraid to say that I was trans.. and I think cutting off 2 feet of hair was big enough a jump without coming out to my hair-guy).

This is my first pair of men's jeans. I'm so freaking stoked. !! It's like I finally found my dream-pants. :P

Thanks guys and gals.

I seldom offer clothing advice because I am not happy with my size - I am working on the weight and the HRT is being kind about the development but I have moved down from a 3X to a 2X so I am making progress I guess.

Most of my clothes resemble awnings and circus tents because that is what they were before my personal stylist, Omar the tent maker gets hold of them.

I was only joking but I am going to duck for cover anyway because Lizzy and Dee Jay wail be after me and sometimes Evan gets mad when he hears girls griping about their weight.

Seriously, I wear dresses a lot and tunics over pants or skirts - I buy from the Bea Arthur, Golden Girls Collection!

Love ya,

Sally

Good afternoon,    I have a young friend who is vegetarian and married to a full on meat eater. They have two areas of their grill clearly designated for their different cooking requirements. When she’s cooking she uses tongs or chopsticks to handle any meats. When he’s cooking he respects her request not to cook her meals on the side where meat has been. They get along fine and respect each other.    When she attends our house, she usually brings her own food, but knows I will clean my grill to meet her requirements. We love and respect her commitment to be vegetarian. I love that she trusts me to make her comfortable when visiting us. There are ways to make it work.    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I was going to call it Numbness, then I realised well.. it isn't. basically, yeah, it isn't.   this only happens to me sometimes. I'll be lying down and my legs will.. well, I guess lock?   If I straighten them out, they will unlock- when I roll over again, they will lock again. this lasts for around 10/ 15 minutes I guess   it's not pins and needles either

so, a close friend wants to cook for me   the issue is, she is a vegitarian and won't handle meat- I, on the other hand, won't handle vegetables- hate the things   every time she goes out to the shop, she comes back with something.. a cake, a fruit smoothie, a coffee, I won't eat any of it. please help me think of something that she could make for me that I'll actually eat   disclaimer: you are talking to the most pickiest eater in the world. good luck

I think there is some truth in this.  They intend to implement Project 2025, whether or not he spends his energies persecuting the Democrats who have been persecuting him (in his view, a debatable point) and does nothing else.   I have seen numerous accusations that the document is about "Trumpism", whatever that is, and is merely a vehicle for him to become dictator.  From what I have read so far, that is the same sort of truth as the Steele Dossier, denying the validity of a certain laptop, Schiff's non-existence evidence of collaboration and a host of other things, many directly from Biden, that are simply not true.   I will continue reading it.

Wife of mine pointed out that not getting a haircut for a month looks hideous - weird bald patches.  So back to super- short buzz cut.  This morning I braced, looking in the mirror.  I look like a woman trying to pass as a a guy, maybe  a small-breasted woman with enough T treatment to grow a mustache.    I would not believe me if I read what I write about me.  This is nuts.   White t-shirt: that they sell in the back of WM so you can tie-dye them or otherwise decorate them. They are thick and long lasting and slightly fitted, so that they could be a man's.  I like them.   Jeans, flip flops.   I will no longer point out these are women's.  What else would I wear?

Quite right mate! I have been letting my hair grow out again (I cut it all off when I was 18).    I'll never look this good:    But I'll aspire to look my best! ☺️
