I am the original punk rock girl - ok maybe not, but let me have my fantasy - been playing punk guitar since the 2nd generation of American punk and play with a drummer who has been playing since the first generation of American punk...

I am into Ramones, Dead Milkmen, Bad Brains, Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Descendents, Husker Du, X, Stooges, New York Dolls, Misfits, Sex Pistols, etc.

Can't say the name of my band though - it will get edited by the mods lol

That is pretty awesome. Wish i was around when the good bands were still kicking. Well, I guess in theory some are hanging in there or whatever. Seen a fair amount of Johnny Rotten in the last few years.

The Ramones and The Dead Milkmen are pretty good. Oh, I forgot to put the Pogues on my list. :P Classic.

Hahaha, band names tend to do that. Yay for suggestive names.

Mmm. Pity. Sid is my 'antihero', of sorts.

Good to know there are other punk listeners running around the site.

I sincerely apologize, but for old punkers - Sublime definitely does not count...

I like their music anyway...just can't tell my mates...they might take that worse than when I eventually tell them I am trans...

I was the younger sibling of a minor player in the original L.A. punk scene. I grew up on X, the Dead Kennedys, Social D, Fear and Black Flag. I still listen to X and DKs with some regularity.

I'll agree with Bobbie that Sublime is not punk. They really belong with the same O.C. scene that produced No Doubt.

For those who have not yet discovered it - set up a Social Distortion or Misfits channel on Slacker Radio - you will be glad that you did...

Agent Orange is still touring - I saw them in January - killer show...

Subhumans - nice - the bass player is the man...got himself thrown into maximum security for trying to blow up a nuclear weapons plant back in the 1980's - a true rock and roll rebel...

My favourites are Dead Kennedys, Crass, Black flag, TSOL, Misfits and the Subhumans

I am also a huge fan of Christian Death which is deathrock(at least the first album is quite punky, later albums are more goth-rock/new wave)

Ended up hanging out with some of my mom's friends from high school. T'was awkward but I started talking music and everything went swimmingly.

They directed me towards: Stiff Little Fingers and Icons of Filth

Gotta admit, they are pretty good.

Music snob alert! :P

I don't consider Rancid to be ska.

But yes, I love punk and ska. I'll give you a list of favorite bands..just give me a minute to remember them all.

Punk

Rancid (not ska, imo)

Goldfinger

Ramones

Bouncing Souls

Dropkick Murphys

Flogging Molly

Ska

The Specials

The Toasters

The Scofflaws

Madness

Pork Pie Tribe (a once local celtic ska band that was AMAZING!)

Reel Big Fish

Less Than Jake (ska-punk, if you will)

Skankin' Pickle (RIP)

Save Ferris (RIP)

Back in my younger years (we're talking late 1990s) the Florida ska scene was incredible. I think the ska scene in general was incredible back in like 1996-1999) and since I was in college I had some free time so I went to a bunch of ska and punk shows. I saw some great local talent and some amazing national artists. Moon Ska Records was the ska label to be on and I think I've seen close to half the bands that were on that label. Great stuff! Really miss the scene now though. :(

..but The Toasters are a band I can listen to and immediately be taken back to those good ol' days. :)

..and I still love Less Than Jake. I haven't stopped loving them since I first heard them.

That's wonderful news!! I took our pup in for her Vet check today - perfect. She slept 7 hours last evening and is coming along really well with her house breaking and crate training.   I know you'll have some excitement with a new Boxer!!

Surgeries are drastic, and indeed should be a last resort for minors.  As indeed they are.  It is very rare for anyone under 18 to get gender-affirming surgery.  It is typically only done if the person would be suicidal without it.   Puberty blockers are a way to avoid the "drastic measure" of forcing the person to undergo the wrong puberty.  They should not be prescribed lightly, and I don't think they are.  They are a way to go slow until the person can truly make an informed decision.

My Endo keeps track of several trace chemicals in my blood system that can be affected by our slightly different hormone balance, keeping in mind we have had both hormones all our life, just in different balance.  I did have to change one diuretic I was taking that was crashing out one chemical that does affect energy levels, and it turned out that Spiro was the alternative to that one for the way it works there.  I was never on Spiro for the hormone issues per se.  Let your doctor know about the fatigue sometime today or whenever you read this.

Hmmm .  .  . if I only had a ten-word description that completely described my identity. That would be great, but one doesn't exist. "I'm a girl—and a boy. And neither—and both?" There. Now you know, right? Maybe not. —Davie

I think you should discuss it with your doctor.  I know you are 'asking around' but experience probably varies.

This one is behind a pretty heavy pay-wall, for me $50 US/per year.

I had heard the story of Nicks-Buckingham but not the rest.  Olsen was prolific.

I completely relate to this.  My partner of 5 years has made it clear she won't be going with me if I go down this path. I feel like I wasted her time with my own fear and procrastination.  I visit my elderly parents (my mother has dementia) and my first thought is there's no way I can put them through this. I think the same thing when I see my adult daughters.     Nobody is holding us hostage but us.

I do get this, really.  However this is part of the reasoning behind the blockers.  Without them there will be "irreversible" changes, only not the ones wanted. No, I don't think this should be done lightly, but I have a problem with forbidding it by law in all cases.
    • Ivy
Yeah.  I have 6 of them.  I learned a lot.

I'm kind of torn on this issue. On the one hand, I have met or seen youngsters, and there is very little doubt they are trans. It would seem cruel to deny them care toward this end. On the other hand, there are many others who may dip their toes into the waters while exploring themselves only to realize it isn't who they are. My daughter had a friend like that in high school. First he wanted to date her. Then he thought he was transfeminine for a season then realized that wasn't him.   We go slow on so many other things with kids. We don't let underaged folks drink or vote. We would question someone who locked into a career at age 12-15 (though there ARE some people who do know exactly what they want to do when they grow up very early in life). We would discourage marrying very young, etc.   I'm never crazy about government regulations on things because they tend to screw everything up. So I hate this has become such a political football where neither side listens to the other... But there is wisdom in going slow and allowing things to play out and making sure before such drastic measures as blocking puberty and having surgeries are taken...   Of course, it should be a person-by-person decision, working in concert with family, community and medical professionals, but it seems we never want to do it this way. We always seem to want to throw everyone and everything into a one-size-fits-all dynamic...
