Abbreviations

For someone that is not computer savy on abbreviations used, I thought we should come up with a list for those of us that don't know what they mean.

Example

HRT = Hormone Replacement Therapy

Please add to the list so that people like me will understand what you are talking about.

Well-I cheat. I use this site:

webopedia.com/quick_ref/textmessageabbreviations.asp

Just add www in front

You get a webopedia ad-just click skip.

Of course things crop up that are different and they evolve pretty quickly but it helps.

Thank you for asking!

It will really help others (like me) especially those of us in guy mode who just can't bear to say-"Huh?-What does that mean". And no, I don't read instruction manuals or ask for directions either. We rely on thoughtful people like you!:D

MTF= Male to Female

FTM= Female to Male

CD= Cross dresser

ROFL= Rolling on Floor Laughing

ROFLMAO= Rolling on Floor Laughing a lot More

PM= Private Messenger or Private Message

BTW= By The Way

BRB= Be Right Back

Thanks for the website JJ. It always gets me when I don't know what someone means.

You are very welcome!

I found it when Laura's went down and I tried to use the chat-not only was it a different world in feel from the forums, I felt like they were speaking a foreign Language.:rolleyes:

I'm glad it helped and glad you posted the topic -I've learned some new terms and had a laugh (Thanks Donna Jean-Riley has quite a sense of humor!)

I am so glad that you posted this topic.

I am terrible with these, apparently Donna Jean is only older than me chronologically - she gets these and I don't always.

She sent me a message and it had one in it that I just could not figure out so I asked her what it meant and it was so embarrassing because the letters were ILY - I was stumped by a phrase that so many of us use hundreds of times a day here talking to our special friends - I have sent it to over a dozen different people here and yet I Love You totally baffled me.

TMUFIISHARMCIA*

*To make up for it I sent her a return message completely in acronyms.

Google it-It means

"Ticked Off Tranies With Knives"

A trans film that is drawing a lot of protest from the trans community.

I haven't seen it -don't want to-but it sounds like it is as negative as it's title and people are organizing protests against it.

Just what me need-more negative press!

HB = hurry back, after someone says brb. That's used in chat here, but not really in the forums and as I rarely go on any chats I had to look that one up when Geo used it, lol.

GT = gender therapist

GG(s) = genetic girl(s) (used a lot in the mtf forum)

AFAIK = as far as I know

imo/imho = in my opinion/in my humble opinion

PMSL = "peeing" (the other word for peeing) myself laughing

that's all I've got right now.

Now that is why I don't like abbreviations. They can mean multiple things and you are supposed to figure out what meaning it is being used for.

Link to comment

My favorite is very old and predates messaging by several generations.

BLT!

I must be getting hungry. :rolleyes:

We will always have negative press because no one is interested in good things - sensationalism sells papers, magazines and ad spots on radio and TV - it is what we feed on.

Hi

Sorta wish I hadn't looked up the TOTWK thing.

But we need to know.

It's a COMIC movie about the beating death of transwoman Angie Zapata.

Wish I hadn't looked that up either.

Apparently the film trivialized her death while trying to gain publicity by using the names of murdered trans people at the end.

Sick. At least from what I just read.

And she was murdered in the town I lived in for 4 years while I went to college.

I need to cleanse my mind and take a few deep breaths now.

TIP-transition in progress, TPN-transition progressing nicely-or s fpr slowly

or

ILL-I Love Lauras

I know most of you ave been here longer and/or are creative and can come up with lots more.

We need a pinned topic with those.

      I'd never heard of it until reading this.  From the thread title I thought it had something to do with the state of Idaho.  But perhaps combined with something about Hobbits, which seemed odd.  My brain goes in weird directions.

      I had my surgery 11 years ago, and yes, I too find it much more of an urgent thing than it ever was before.  One possible culprit is going to be T blockers if you are still on them, also the urethral sphincter which holds the pee back is closer to the urethral opening now and more subject to stimulation. When we gotta go we gotta goooooo!!

      I notice that the Wikipedia article does not mention the U.S.A. which I can understand a bit.  The entire month of June here is Pride Month for all the organizations and is tied to the 1969 Stonewall Inn riots in New York and also our medical authorities are also not tied as thoroughly to the WHO as they are to the American Psychological and American Psychiatric Associations which write the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health which is generally in line with the WHO which does not play as big a part in our medical practices here.  The WHO does not impact us the way it does the other world countries which is why we are in the dark about the day.  Ironically though, one of the U.S. States is named Idaho which sadly is one of the most conservative and frustrating to the U.S. LGBTQ Community.   The day is international though in the sense of other European and Southern Hemisphere countries it seems.

      Hmm. Must have been that pesky 'International' word which made me assume that it was well known! I only became aware of it myself last year.   Brief history: May 17th is the day IDAHOBIT is acknowledged as it is the anniversary of when in 1990 the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder. It was conceived in 2004 and first celebrated in 2005. It has gone on to include trans folk in 2009 and bi folk in 2015.   International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia - Wikipedia

      A year and a half post op. I've noticed that once the urge to pee hits, I can only hold it for about 15 minutes or so until it gets to the point where I feel like I'm going to piss myself. I used to be able to hold it a lot longer (as I  remember it).  I know my urethra is a bit shorter now, but I don't think it is enough to account for this. Am I imagining it?

      What a great moment @Vidanjali! It's always so cool knowing people are reading you in a way you want to be seen.

      It's also networking.  Sometimes jobs come along because someone knows someone else - these older people might know someone.  "Hey, Ashley," someone might say,"My nephew is looking for love. He likes tall women. Whatcha think? Can he call you?"   Don't discount their ability to match make.  It is about networking.

      He is simply doing to get more votes. He held a Trump for trans during his first run and found out the majority of his voters were against us so he simply followed the crowd.

      The sad part is I'm the third oldest member. One is in their 60's and the other is past 70's. I'm even older than the president lol. It's a younger crowd that's for sure. I like to come here to feel young again lol.
    • Sally Stone
      Ashley, I think searching for relationships are a lot like searching for jobs, they tend to come along when you aren't actually looking.  Perhaps you could step back from actively searching, at least for a little while, and instead, concentrate on just being out and about as yourself.  Like Mae and Abby have already mentioned, just keep up your volunteering, but don't focus on a need to find someone.  Maybe, just maybe, changing your tactics will result in someone finding you.    I do wish only the best for you, and I hope someone comes along who connects with you.

      First off, you can't regret being honest. You may not be changing the relationship, but it sounds like it still exists!   As for meeting people, what about through the volunteering you're doing? Maybe you can do more of that and meet people. Let some relationships grow and if they blossom into something more than friendship, great! If not, you've got more friends!
