The Irony....

Anyone realize how popular body modification (i.e., tattoos and piercings) is in ftm's? I read an article in Scientific American mind and I keep thinking about it - it was about how guys who get tattoos and piercings are actually more desirable biologically because they, on average, have more body symmetry which means their genetic makeup is more desirable. So basically, this means men who get piercings and tattoos have a good gene pool and so females may be attracted to these men and not even realize it - but the attraction has a biological basis. In terms of having children.

I just thought this was really ironic because ftm's are sterile unless they keep their female organs, go off T, and don't get a hysto. I wonder whether one day they will have surgeries that will allow ftm's to have the reproductive capability of a biomale and therefore we would actually be more desirable, on average, genetically, because we do have a tendency to do more body modification than most men on average.

That is rather interesting. I would like to say that at least for me that isn't true since I am not really a fan of tattoos on anyone and not every guy can pull off a piercing....but both my ftm boyfriend and the bio guy I reproduced with have had tattoos and piercings...hows that for irony! lol

oddly, Jay is the only guy ive ever gone out with who has tattoos ? I dont usually like men who have them. In the past I would have also said I would be turned off a guy if he had piercings.

Probably.

wonder how this applies to the gay/bi community though.

yep, it's probably subconscious. I wonder how it applies to the trans community as well. Cuz that's the ironic part.... if you are gay or trans you can't really have biological children unless you get a surrogate or something.

Well trans have kiddos before they go through SRS (GRS) or HRT. It's just after that they can't. (granted not every trans person wants to have a kiddo)

There are a lot of FtMs that I have met that love tattoos and piercings as well :)

yeah that's really the only other scenario. But they never said that this correlation holds true for women, only men... so if you carry a biological child to term the "female" way, where does that put us?

We would still be men. I was just pointing it out. I know that I want my *own* kiddo. Granted that the only way that I can do that is by having it (if I can even have kids that is) is the ""female"" way. Some guys can't do that and I get that.

But it still leaves us as male. Yeah it's a hard concept for some of us to even want to think about but it's there.

Did I make any sense at all?

yeah that makes sense. It's just, like you said some guys can't do that, and many of those who can't, or choose not to, do have body modifications. So it's just ironic because ftm's generally are much less likely to have biological children, though more likely to have had any body modification. which contradicts the study.

Yeah. Out of the majority of FtMs that I know or have spoken to, they will never put themselves through having children. And yeah they have had body modification, of some sort or another.

I am just one of those oddballs that would fit the study (if I am reading right, kinda tired  )

I don't have any tattoos or piercings. I've never done anything 'extra' to my body free willingly. I'm not inclined to anything potentially damaging to my body with the exception of my medical things I need to take care of. Modding and such are clearly not life threatening but their on my personal list of "Do Not Do".

Just out of curiosity, is there any reason that they are on your "Do not do" list? *Not* saying it's wrong or that you're making a mistake or whatever, every one has the choice to do what they want to their bodies, I am just curious.

Nothing really important, just what I stated above mostly. I don't wish to put holes or marks on my body unless its for medical reasons such as my injections. Another thing about it is that it hurts when you get either of them done. Your body sends pain signals to your brain in order to process it as a warning that something is wrong. So I guess thinking about it in that way I see tattoos or piercings as something unneeded and "wrong" to me.

Of course, I'm not inferring that body modding is bad/shouldn't be done, their just not for me.

Ah okay. :) Everyone is different. :) It's okay to want certain things and not the other. :) *hugs*

That's an interesting observation. It would be cool if they could come up with that someday lol

I meant to reply to this before... yes it would be cool! :D

Well, I'm out of luck because I can't stand the idea of having tattoos/piercings. Luckily I prefer men to women. I wonder if on average that men desire piercings in other men. Lots of gay guys seem to get various ones (usually on the body for... intimate reasons). I know there's that whole left ear / right ear myth too.

Curiouser and curiouser...

yeah they used to say "left is right and right is wrong." I don't think anyone really cares about that anymore. A lot of guys who have piercings have both ears done... does that make them bi? :P

Sorry to hear you lost both your parents young. My dad died from a heart attack when I was 10. My mom died a few years ago. I never came out, truly, to either of them, about my gender identity. On one hand it is freeing, not having to deal with “what would they think or feel about me now” but on the other hand, I wish they had truly known.

This is fantastic, We're adding a Boxer to our family sometime this evening or tomorrow. His name is Parker. We'll be crate training him as well as introducing him to two cats that have never been around a dog.   Pictures to follow later,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I still don't understand how any queer people can vote for these people.  I'll just leave it at that.

Thanks Kathy!    Some place where the peer pressure is to dress more feminine instead of less.  Imagine that. I haven't left the house in fem clothing since an outing to a local LGBT club over 15 years ago.   She's also pointed me to some support groups so that's next as well.     And for those who noticed, yes, I committed a rather egregious grammatical error in my post, but I couldn't figure out how to edit it.  That stuff bugs me to death. Geez Louise .

Everybody doesn't feel this way. As a AMAB child (in the 50's) I don't think I questioned my body, but I was quite fascinated with girl stuff.  When puberty hit I really wished I was a girl - but alas - I was stuck living as a guy.  As an adult I had pretty bad  homophobia, which was probably internalized transphobia, but I didn't really know what transgender was at the time.  And by then I was locked into a marriage and family. I lived like that for most of my life, and convinced myself (but not my wife) that I was happy.  When we were in our 60's, the marriage fell apart.  And I believe a large part of that was me resisting my feminine self.  When I no longer had to live up to being a man, I dared to take another peek inside, and my egg cracked big time. I still don't think I was "born in the wrong body."  Maybe it just needed a little tweaking. I think our "gender" is an internal thing.   I don't regret having lived so long trying to be a guy.  But if I could have transitioned as a child it would have been awesome.

@Adrianna DanielleSeeing two different therapist for separate issues really helped me deal with the each of them on different levels. I hope this works for you too.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

It was not that long ago that black people were banned from the University of Mississippi.  Schools were segregated and the same excuse of protecting the women (or girls) of old miss.  Times and many feeling have changed with time and federal intervention.  Unfortunately politicians love to separate and divide to gain power.     Hugs,   Charlize
