Who Do You Sing To?

I read that a lot of people find singing to other women helps to excercise their cords.

I see very few specifics of artists and songs. I want to make a CD cause I could sing in my car while I'm driving. There are some songs like Extraordinary by Liz Phair and Keep Holding On by Avril lavigne that I always sing along to. I'm sure if I put a half hour or more of songs on a CD I could put on quite a show to the other drivers cause sometimes my arms start moving with the music.

Obviously someone who sounds like Shirley Temple is out.

Anything by Celine Dion especially the song from Titanic my heart will go on. You also can't go wrong with Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. They have multiple songs to sing to.

I guess it doesn't matter since either way it would work to strengthen things, but i love Kate Pierson's voice. It just seems high and less realistic as a goal. But I always find myself singing w/B52 songs and even the guy singer isn't exactly deep male.

I sing along to Janis Joplin. She has that wonderful raspy, bluesy but feminine voice, and it's very similar to my singing voice (I write/sing blues as well). I've been told I out-sing her at times, but I think it's mostly just that I get carried away. XD

Strange - Smeilson - the Puppy Song is my favorite. The upper range is perfect practice for me as a few notes are just at the high range of my voice.

Also the Beatles - they had to 'reach' for their range sometimes - so it feels comfortable for me, somehow.

And being an old grey mare - Karen Carpenter who had a huge range! She also got down to the lower ranges I can master - but would get above me - which is something I need - that challange.

Helen Readdy also has a good lower range - old style I know. But she has a selction of 'feminist' songs that appeal to we MTF.

Modern? Carrie Underwood.

its perfect for letting your voice get used to the high pitch falsetto and training ur vocals to be higher.

I've always, always loved due to the lyrics and how, to me, it relates to the whole trans thing. ^^;

I'm usually quite bad a hearing lyrics in songs, but Loreena McKennitt has a lovely voice if you want to try singing any of her things.

Regarding what I sing to - I try to sing to different female singers/bands. I think this way I challenge myself more, because Im not stuck on just one type of voice that I try to imitate (therefore it extend your vocal range? idk). There are some that I always sing to, like Mandy Moore for example, but I always try to mix it up with something else (higher to lower to deeper to softer kinda thing - mix).
