Skirt Afternoons

I am semi retired and work at our local golf course, for the last two weeks I get home at 1.30 shower and put on my skirt to work in the yard or just relax. My wife is supportive of me wearing this in the yard but not in public. She has stated if I have a kilt I can go out in public and she will support this. I am now looking for a kilt. Being born in Scotland I have an excuse for wearing a kilt.

Sounds wonderful! Do you by chance ever watch/record Craig Ferguson? Seems like he mentioned something about a kilt being really heavy fabric, and not all that much fun to wear. Wonder if anyone makes a skirt of lighter fabric that might still 'pass' as a kilt.

You have a very understanding wife, Bobbie. I think it would be fun to wear a kilt, especially if the occasion were right.

Before you do, though, check out a song by Mike Cross called "The Scotsman." You'll love it. Here's the link: http://www.allerdice.net/scotsman-song.htm

Hi Opal. Yes they make lighter material kilts, they are not the real Scottish ones.

Hi there

I started wearing a skirt made by Macabi.com it Is a hiking skirt for men. It is nice cause you can buckle it to look like wading shorts or drop it to look like a full length skirt. I also wear kilts for utilikilt.com. They are pricey but I love mine. Much cooler than pants. There website is one off the best I have seen. If you type scratch and dent in search area they have discounted kilts slight defects. I have used mine in europe and in Alaska, winter and summer. Check it out. Let me know what you think. You can also check eBay they sell kilts cheaper too.

Have fun

Luv Nadine

As a Scot living in Scotland (and sometimes kilt-wearer), I can confirm that a Kilt is made of heavy fabric, traditionally wool. There are all sorts of tartan patterns that Kilts are woven into, some people choose a tartan relevant to their family name, others according to the clan of the area of Scotland they live in or associate with, others just purely on the aesthetics. There are other differences which define a kilt as being a kilt and not a skirt however. A kilt's length is important...the length should be quite exactly to the top of the knees, not any longer. Kilts are always pleated, with broad pleats. A large/broad belt is pretty much always worn with a kilt as well (sporan etc is really not necessary, lots of Scots don't bother with those things, unless they want a pouch to store some booze in).

Here are a couple of websites to places that make kilts (having a kilt custom-made can be expensive, but if you want one its worth it because they usually last a lifetime).

Bear in mind that Kilts evolved out of a need to wear durable warm clothing during wet cold winters in places where there was a lot of wind. As such, kilts, despite what people may think, can become very warm to wear...great in cooler weather but uncomfortable in hot weather.

Also...here is the link to the "Evil Scotsman" song. Its very funny indeed, but I must warn you in advance that there is a lot of swearing in it, so, you've been warned. It includes the lyrics to help you out in case you struggle to understand the Scottish accent.

Fair enough. I wasn't sure it would make it past moderation, but I figured if it was inappropriate then it wouldn't make it to the forums, hence I thought no harm in putting it forward in any case.

Been using the wok on the back deck a lot the last few months.  Just got another stock of udon noodles from Amazon and we are using those in the stir fry with onions, peppers and a spicy peanut sauce.  I did this often in the 90's too, but back then I was just using a standard Coleman camp stove instead of this high BTU wok burner.  I've had the burner for a couple years, but haven't been using it regularly until recently.

I’m a lefty. Learned to be a bit ambidextrous for certain tools that assume right handedness like scissors, but couldn’t write with my right hand to save my life.

Tangent, adjacent, opposite...  It's still rock n' roll to me.  I don't know about the "in god we trust" part of the money, but I like the lady with the scale.  And then I look left at the Indian statue on my mantel of Guanyin feeding a drop of liquid to the dragon at her feet.  In god we trust?  The lady with the scale?  Maybe this is too binary.  And then on the other side of Guanyin is that kind of pelican wood bird that sits two feet tall that I hauled back from South America through the Panama canal.  The beak broke in 1998 and I carefully saved the pieces (as I usually do) and attached them back about a decade ago.  I used a drill to make a small hole and then put a finish nail in there.  Then a hole on those two pieces that needed to be attached.  Upper and Lower beak.  There is still a seam showing.  I could cover that up, but the beak is a bright yellow and well, it's better with all the pieces in place and I don't mind seeing the crack.  I guess that is the tangent and the other two are the opposite and adjacent. -money  Why don't coders always code the "-" action in their search fields?  It's not that difficult!

@April Marie Yes, it's something to shop for at least for 6-8 weeks.

Definitely points to learn and keep in mind.  A bunch of stuff I had put in mental "cold storage" thawed out a bit there and ready again to run through my mill.  As said, a bit long and as usual from her a tad bit challenging.  Overall I see it and can use it as a working hypothesis.

Yeah.  I like Nebula, that was where I watched it.   I posted the YouTube cause I figured more people could see it.

We agree on most of this... and the church/state thing is kind of a tangent anyways. Oops. LOL   I think it has long been established that all different kinds of groups have access to public funds. In my opinion, either everybody has access or nobody does. I would prefer "nobody."   Relying on public funds gives the government the power to take it away, and puts that power in the hands of whatever group controls the government at the moment... the news article that is the topic of this thread shows a clear example of that happening.  Organizations trust government at their peril.

More info on Abigail Thorne here: https://go.nebula.tv/philosophytube and, Dracula's ex-girlfriend, on Philosophy tube.   "The reason why Nebula is so cheap for what it is, is because there's no upper hierarchical group looking yo skim off the top. Imagine how much cheaper EVERYTHING could be if it was like that for every other service or product; if the money went straight to workers, not up a chain of command until it reached someone who did exactly "jack" to produce what's being sold.
