Went Overboard Tonight

I have been trying to gain some weight back from losing over 50 pounds within the last seven months, last time I was weighed I was at 130lbs, I am 6'.0". My doctor said I should add more protein to my diet, so I have been doing so. Tonight I went way overboard in my eating. I do not know what got into me but the minute I arrived home this evening I ate almost the entire jar of peanuts I bought today, then I ate a bannana, followed by a bunch of grapes. Then I made a bowl full of popcorn, unsalted, no butter, cooked in olive oil. After that it was two pieces of toast with a large amount of almond butter on each slice, let's not forget the Yoplay light yogurt and then a bowl of healthy choice chicken and noodle soup, plus a whole grapefruit for desert. Oh I forgot, I also had about a cup and a half of green beans as well. I cannot believe I ate all of that in one sitting. I do not want to get fat and I am concerned about my recent eating binges like this. I have done this before a couple of weeks ago. I am still hungry and want to eat more but know that is not a good choice.

After I ate all this food, I felt really guilty and tried to exercise some of the calories off by dancing to some music and doing some other exercises at home. I was doing so good last month by keeping to a sensible diet and only eating a serving at each meal. I use to just eat celery when I felt the urge to eat more but there is only so much celery you can eat before you get bored of it. Chewing sugar free gum was another option I used, it did work pretty and I may have to go back to doing so again.

Oh, my, Suzie. I think I got indigestion just reading your post.

Someone please pass the Pepto Bismol.

Well, lets focus on the positive, shall we? You had Healthy Choice soup, a grapefruit (vitamin C) and green beans (daily serving of veggies). The peanuts, popcorn and almond butter, not so good, particularly the, um, serving sizes.

Seriously, though, it sounds like this could be stress-induced. If you haven't spoken to your therapist about it, I think you should.

They can probably suggest some things to take your mind off of food.

In the meantime, better stock up on the Pepto.

So you slipped one day. I wouldn't worry about it unless it continues to happen. I believe the body has a way of telling us what it needs and when it needs it. If these are things that you haven't been eating for a while, maybe there's something that's in them that you're body is craving. Try to incorporate small portions of these items into your weekly menu.

Most days, I only eat two meals a day and sometimes only one (I don't recommend it to anyone, I don't exercise either, so my body stores everything it gets), but then, I'll get an uncontrollable appetite and clean out the house or I'll get a craving for a specific item.

Don't feel guilty just yet, just listen to your cravings in moderation.

Thanks Carolyn. Will Tums do? My therapist knows about the loss of weight but does not know about the eating binges. Nearly ate more after I posted but managed to stay away from the kitchen. The bbq tommorow at church is going to be torture but I am going to try hard to limit my intake of food. Stay with healthy foods and not overeat. All those deserts are going to be tempting. ;-)

Tips to avoid the hunger starks

Celery obviously

Gum, never worked for me but to each their own

Grapes, they're good

And for the real pangs, hard candy, and make sure you keep the wrapper, the thing about taste and being full is, the tastier it is the fuller you get, and even smelling a powerful scent helps to give you that full feeling faster, helps conquyer the pangs, scent and taste are linked, and so, a powerful taste that will last a while such as hard candy, and a powerful scent with it, should help conquer these pangs, things such a sbutterscotch, horrible in massive amounts, but once in a while, not that bad

These are all my tips I hope they help, if not, I'm sorry :(

Suzie I am sorry that you find yourself needing to do this. I myself have trouble with this sometimes but I don't eat as healthy when I do it. It really is hard to break when you feel this way but sometimes I just eat a bowl of special K cereal for dinner to make up for these lapses. I know that isn't the best way to handle them but it helps control the weight.

.

*whew*....

You really got after it, didn't you, Suzie?

Well, I lost a lot of weight a few years back and my secret was the sugarless gum....

I chew the daylights out of it and make my belly full on water or add a powdered, suragless drink mix to it to fill up on...

Good luck, Girlfriend!

HUGGS!

Thank you for the hard candy tip curious, that is something I have not tried yet. Water just does not supress my appetite for some reason. The gum does help though. So far I have been doing good. Keeping to a serving at meal and snack times. Tommorow I have to really watch it, I have to be on a liquid diet all day and night so I can have my Colonoscopy on Thursday morning.

I had one of those recently. They made me drink a gallon of some really nasty tasking stuff to clean me out. It was not a fun time. I hope everything comes back ok.

I'm not sure the past is a sure guide to future needs.  LGB have no dog in the fight on public restrooms, for example.  That is T only, and only some T at that.

When I appear on the radio and podcast it will be in discussion with a political scientist who will discuss those aspects. I’m focussed on the implications for kids and why the recommendations are flawed. But yes, I will probably briefly paint the political background.

GFY, @Betty K. Don't forget to write about the motivations for the Cass Report, and who paid for its conclusions. "Cass Met With DeSantis Pick Over Trans Ban: Her Review Now Targets England Trans Care." — Erin Reed  And now its back to America, 'surprise, surprise.'

Hi @Sol. Great to hear from you and your updates are all encouraging. Wonderful all the support you're now getting from your family and to hear you sounding so positive and hopeful. Career as an archivist sounds like a great path - sensible and not too specific, but endlessly fascinating at the same time. Not only do museums employ archivists, but so do many other institutions such as historical societies and universities. Your university may have its own archives which you could visit and learn about. Take care & be well!

Hi @KathyLauren no worries!   I’ve only ever gotten a two-year degree in programming, and that one was just because I existed in the U.S. Air Force as a coder long enough to qualify for all of the technical credits, then I just took CLEP and DANTES tests to get the rest.   Most of my work has been in the security arena, lots of C/C++. Worked as a Red Hat hacker for a few years, and spent a few more years in gov’t spaces.

Hi, Amanda.  Your story sounds quite familiar, though my pesky body part didn't need the attention of a urologist.  You are in good company here!

Oops.  Sorry, @AmandaJoy, I see you have already posted an introduction.

Hi, @AmandaJoy.  Welcome to Trans Pulse.  Be sure to check out the various forums and join in any threads that interest you.  We'd love to read all about you in the Introductions forum.   -----   I started programming in Dartmouth Basic in high school back in the early 1970s.  I did my degree in Computer Science.  After a brief stint in the "government flying club" (RCAF), I worked as a programmer-analyst and systems analyst for about 25 years.    I am retired now, but I still enjoy programming.  I write a lot of the code for my astrophotography observatory.

WOW HAS IT BEEN A WHILE SINCE I'VE UPDATED!!! Welp, I'm updating now, and it's been a lot of changes.  1. My mom is starting to come around a little (I think). She does refer to me more as her child now, and even offered to help me cut my hair so I think we're making a little progress. I'm still planning on going on T later and I'm gonna start saving up to buy trans tape (I can't wear binders because I have GERD), so hopefully the progress stays. My dad, sibling, friends, and my paternal grandparents have all been super supportive and I'm really lucky for that. My sibling also goes out of their way to introduce me as their brother and it makes me so happy :D 2. I've been socializing a lot more! Mostly on Discord, but I've made some new friends and I'm really happy about that!  3. I'm on birth control! I still need to go to the gyno but my GP got me on the depo shot and it's been working for me so far! My dysphoria has gone through a lot of ups and downs, especially around periods, but that source is pretty much gone now and I feel way better. I do have more dysphoria centered around my chest now but that's pretty easily fixed with baggy shirts most of the time.  4. I know 100% now that I'm hoping for a uterine ablation (cauterizing the uterine tissue so it doesn't grow) at some point in the future and it's likely something I'll have to save up for but from my research it's a lot less invasive and safer than a hysterectomy so I definitely recommend it if people are able to access it. I also know that after that, I want to save up for a reduction to combat the chest dysphoria, and I still like having it sometimes so I'll keep a bit of it (I'm shooting for an A cup, I'm a C cup currently).  5. I've been writing more and I've even got some ideas for art projects! I also got an Archive of Our Own account where I post my finished writing, and I'm starting a book project at my mom's urging (she said she wanted that as her Christmas present so I'm gonna try, might not get it done this year though). I haven't gotten to write much lately but I'm hoping to change that this month.  And finally, 6. I'm gonna be a college junior and I have a career path to pursue! I'm gonna be an archivist, hopefully working for a museum (not too specific on where, I just like museums).  So yeah, a lot of stuff has happened and it's been pretty good!

Hi Thea!   Professional coder since ‘90, hobbyist since ‘83. C/C++, C#, Java, Ruby, Python, Ada, COBOL, Fortran, various flavors of BASIC. Love C, but it’s mostly been about Python recently.
